update:

I previously said that I loved the camera and that my problem lied in the mini hot shoe. I've learned that it doesn't have a hot shoe of any kind because I thought shoes were of different design and I just couldn't see it (I'm a moron)

I've also come to loath this camera because of it's minuscule sensor.

the only problem I have with the fs100 is that the mic shoe is a mini and to use a proper shotgun mic like the audio-technica atr 6650 you'll need a flash bracket so that you can mount the mic on the camera.

IE: the clamps on the shotgun mic are bigger than the spaces on the camera so you need a bracket.

also you pretty much need an external mic because the built in one is good for close quarters but medium is a bit hard and long range you can just forget about.

@muna156 Try the lens cover, if it's stuck, just give it a slight push with one finger, it should open, check for dirt that might be causing it to not open also.

I buy this camera, The FS 100. Is very good! We need to buy the card memory SD or SDHC

for photos or to record in video. 2 Gb on the card SD has capacity for 400 photos, 8 GB on SDHC has capacity to 5 hours and 30 minutes on recording on mode SP or LP. In the Manual of the camera bring that information. In using a PC, you need to install the disc and use the instructions.

The fs100 is a really nice little camera. I bought it about half a year ago and I've used it for lots of things. the MOD file that it records to can be dragged straight onto Sony Vegas which is very useful. The only thing wrong with it is that it goes grainy and out of focus if the room is too dark. Other than that I recommend it to all because it's a great camera for a very small price.

awesome deal! If you get a chance, get a card reader and download "AVS Video Converter 6" to convert the .MOD files into .AVI. If you have the card reader you can just toss the card in and convert em.The supplied software had me yanking my hair out.Great Camera though!

the fs100 records in the .MOD file format (it's an MPG/MPEG2 format).

if you drag and drop files from fs100 to computer,the MOD file extension has to be changed to MPG for some media players to recognise it,although16x9 footage will only playback in 4x3.

if you use the pixela software supplied to transfer footage from fs100 to computer it'll rename the file MPG automatically,and flag 16x9 recordings to playback in widescreen.

video quality is bellow average. Windows dosnt support the audio codec and we have to dig the internet to get the proper audio codec but still some editing software dosnt support the audio codec. Overall i will give only 2 thumbs up, one for the size of the camcorder and other for its battery life.
