wow.. a staff isnt supposed to be used as a sword... a staff is meant to be extended for one strike then brought back to the body to block any counter attacks.. thats the reason the staff guy lost so badly...
@jetsparks17 the extended position and retracted position are both basic positions. When opposing such a long weapon, I think he made the right choice. Fighting from the retracted position would give up even more reach.
@Tassos2310 I imagine a kendo or naginata player would be allowed under these rules, but there were none that day. I think its mostly because they have a good competition format for their arts already.
@Tassos2310 Well, the standard armor everyone's wearing is for eskrima/kali/arnis, which are the most common arts seen in these kinds of competitions. However, the weapons they're using in this one are karate/kobudo weapons. Those schools tend to not spar with their weapons though, so schools that do are more rare.

How can they fight in these baggy armors??

Hm, do in this competition take part kendo or naginata schools. Also, do you know if someone can use nitto there?
I saw some using knives (i guess they use eskrima/kali there) but i would be more interested on nitto sword styles (long long or short long swords).

Actually this is very intersting. For these kind of weapons do you know what kind of schools take part in it?
