That's caused by low humidity. With more humidity the shell and scales would be smoother. A little "pyramiding" of the shell is not a problem unless it gets extreme or the scutes start drying and cracking.

When I adopted one of my sulcata's (she was 20yrs old) I changed her name from Kuna to Luna. Did not take very long (weeks?) before she liked Luna better too. It always amazes me how fast they can be trained. I also adopted a male (approx. 18-20 yrs, 70 pounds) a friend found unharmed in the fast lane on Interstate 10 near Palm Springs, we named him Willy and he acts as if it's always been his name.

aw, that poor tortoise. Her shell is so badly pyramided. I hope you don't feed her tomatoes all the time.. they're HORRIBLE for grass-land tortoises, like your Sulcata. The acid and sugar in Tomatoes results in stomach bloating and makes it a perfect place for paracites. This tortoise is obviously eating the wrong foods and not getting enough UVB light. It's a shame.

Shelly is not a she.....it turns out that Shelly is a he :) Shelly lived in a preschool class as a hatchling before he came to live with us. The class was made up of mostly little girls who named him Cinderella. We renamed him Shelly and then discovered that she was a he. We then called him Shelly Shelby, but he knows his name and answers to Shelly. We will be changing the wording of the channel in the near future.
