No, the word 支那 was also accepted by the chinese before the war. The word 支那 comes from direct Japanese translation of the word "China" (see the "Shina" entry in Wikipedia). Do not equate the words Chink and 支那 together. The word chink was never accepted by the chinese, but 支那 was the standard before the war and has a longer history of usage than 中国. If you find the word 支那 unacceptable, then the word "China" is equally unacceptable. Otherwise, it is such an asymmetry that is laughable.

I am surprised that you never heard of "other race talk bad about their own". I watch CNN, FOX and ABC here in Shanghai (because of my job) and very often in their debates (e.g. Hannity and Colmes on FOX, Larry King on CNN) they invite guests who describe the problems of their own race.
