I have a tracheostomy i got for severe sleep apnea and had to try to change it by myself for the first time today which ended in disaster...This is very helpful for me to see about the curved style trach which i was also given for an emergency. The main tracheostomy tube i use is a Montgomery Cannula. I would love to speak to more people who know more about this. what are you putting on the drainage sponge to keep the crusties from forming.
My mom is on a trach and I do this everyday but I use 1/2 saline and 1/2 peroxide to clean each day and have never been told about anything else to prevent this.

ive had so many trachs but i cant remember this one. it is however more easy than it looks especially if you have the shilly model
