  • Well, her very fast tongue (while scatting) is somehow interesting, but she doesn`t reach the charm of an Ella Fitzgerald ore Anita O`Day and even the Manhattan Transfer Arrangement gives this song more character. She should`t try to prove her vocal artistry to often, but show more feeling instead.

  • her face is scary. it looks like a skull.

Auf solche Holzköpfe wie dich kann man verzichten. Am besten du wanderst aus, in den Iran.

  • I'm a fan of Roberta! I would like to sing with her, i love jazz, i love singing and she is a pride for Italy.

  • dubibidubibi scoobydubidu bibidibabibidibuup....

  • Wow!! What clean, swinging intonation! Awesome!!! Thank you!!!!

  • Be sure to pick up "Sonny Side Up" on Verve, taking note of the individual voices of Stitt, then Dizzy, then Rollins. Roberta is one of the few vocalists to follow in the same footsteps as the greats of jazz: namely, choosing a favorite solo and then transcribing it note for note. Once you've accomplished that challenging first step, you're qualified to take the bandstand with the best of them. (Most people can't "hear" what Stitt and Diz are doing let alone repeat it.)

  • GREAT voice, GREAT extension and GREAT "old" JAZZ ! ! !

  • Sweet voice.

  • My gosh, she's a beautiful reincarnation of all that was great from a era I thought was lost on old vinyl records.

  • Nette Version.

    Willy Ketzer klasse!

  • I've lost count on how many times I've listened to this.

  • She is amazing!!! I love it!!

  • Hat's off.....she really sounds like Dizz wich is almoust immpossible for singer! Amazing intonation too....

  • Diz +2 sunnys alive

    YeAH WILLY AND HIS BESt...

  • beautiful sound and great voice..

    thanks for sharing this!

  • That's a great little scat verse she just did. A true jazz musician. Many of the "jazz" singers have a chorus or two of "shoobe doobe" memorized. It's obvious this chick is really blowin spontaeously. Very exotic looking woman as well.

  • Skip the first 55 seconds to get to the actual music.

  • She is the best now!

  • her technique is irreprehensible and her English, being an Italian, too but her interpretation doesn't touch me at all

  • Not just her English, but her American accent is near perfect. Her interpretation, and she even said that in the introduction, is very much the way Gillespie would have -and has- interpreted it.

  • This is Dizzy Gillespie's arrangement. Go to itune's, listen to the sample of him playing Sunny Side of the Street. It's this exact arrangement. All her scats are merely her following Dizzy's trumpet ornamentation. I like what she does because she shows that she has control of her higher notes. They are clear and strong. They are odd-sounding for jazz, though, where the female upper range is almost never employed. I think it's unfortunate, though it opens doors for women with no range in jazz.

  • OKay I love gambarini as a singer.

But, firstly, the arrangement of this song sucks with the whole high pitched noises at the start of each verse really sucks.

Second, her lower register is a bit poor.

And third, her scat quite frankly sucks.

i really don't think this was a great song for her to perform.

  • Completely agree

  • She is Italian trained. Her scat is amazing; her trills are perfectly pitched! Her register is strong.

She is amazing! listen to other modern female jazz singers and you will find no one like her.

I have met her personally; almost all her scats are made up on the spot; most singers can't claim that skill.

She is talented in ways other singers wish to be!

  • I agree. Just one technicality: although Roberta can certainly scat as good as any living vocalist (Ella is probably the all-time champ), she doesn't for a moment scat on this performance. What she does is far more difficult--picking off the notes of 3 difficulty, complex solos (by Sonny Stitt, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sonny Rollins) and reproducing them flawlessly. Usually it's only the very best instrumentalists who can do this.

  • @caponsacchi it is difficult because, and I don't mean to cast aspersions on vocalists, but instrumentalists are usually far more harmonically and rhythmically complex in their solos. It's hard to translate harmonic thought to the voice .

  • very well done

  • She's good alright. Pretty nice rack too.

  • she is good!
