@PirateJessicaandcats thanks so much for taking the time to do that! I hope others follow your example and also watch the documentary and share what they think. I'm trying to ask all the owners of these slow loris videos to put a link to the documentary in their description ('BBC Natural World: Jungle Gremlins of Java' available on YouTube).
These videos are misunderstood by most who watch them. It's illegal in most countries to own them as pets and slow lorises in videos are docile as it's their passive defensive reaction to threatening situations. Please read the page on slow lorises on Wikipedia. If you love these animals educate yourself especially before thinking of having one as a pet & watch the YouTube BBC documentary, Jungle Gremlins of Java.
@DansarJensen omg I watched that the other day. It is disgusting what humans are doing, just to get unusual pets. I totally cried. Everybody who thinks its alright to own animals like this should watch that programme. I'm glad there are more comments like yours on youtube.
What is important is not that these particular animals are abused or not, it is that the pet trade *does* cause abuse, and any encouragement for these animals to be caught as pets will bring about their extinction. If clear information about the situation were posted along with the video, that *might* be OK, but as it stands, they just look so cute, we all want one, and not everyone takes the time and trouble to find out the bigger picture.
Most slow lorises that are turned into pest have undergone extreme cruelty - its teeth yanked or cut out with scissors, no anesthetic. They get infections from these extractions. The pet trade of these animals is contributing to their extinction. If a slow loris is bought as a pet, another one will be forcibly removed from the wild. Google "Little Fireface Project" and help save the loris by asking for such videos to be removed and informing others about the situation.
Anyone concerned with the plight of the slow loris, please google "Dr Anna Nekaris' little fire face project". Anyone wanting one of these for a pet should know the suffering the pet trade causes, not to mention helping to bring about their extinction.
Anyone who is prepared to watch this video of a slow loris, an endangered primate as a pet, should read this article first,"YouTube sensation the slow loris might look adorable, but it can kill humans... and we are killing them out in return", in the Daily Mail; and if possible watch the bbc natural world documentary, Jungle Gremlins. Trust me you won't look at this video or the slow loris in the same way again.
I have just watched the BBC programme, which thankfully has brought the loris's plight to our attention. I expect many people who have these poor creatures are ignorant of how they may have arrived in their hands, through those very cruel poachers and traders. I'm not making excuses for them but hopefully they will now have their eyes opened. I watch many nature programmes and this is the first for a long time to make me cry. Videos such as this just perpetuate the trade.
ignorant people , all domesticated animals were once fom the wild ... maybe with people thinking the same thing about how its wrong ... ferrets for example ... they shouldnt be in sunlight either ... they also need to be cared for as young etc ... but yet it's perfectly fine now ... they are completely domesticated same with any animal , no animal was ever created living in someones house ... they tear their teeth out and cats claws out .. people should treat any pet they have unabusively
@fopoooy Promoting the pet trade is not ok. Teraing the teeth or claws out of any animal is not ok. The domesticating of new wild animals can be stopped if people realize that it is not ok.
I was very interested in buying slow lorises as it is not illegal to buy one in my country. I searched it on wikipedia and found a very disturbing image of a guy yanking out its teeth to sell it. Wiki also says - Even the best breeding facilities have great difficulty breeding lorises, and those that do often have difficulty keeping them alive. It is so easy to get access to wild-caught lorises, it is highly doubtful that a seller who claims to have captive-bred ones is telling the truth.
damn. can this guy get his own food,or what? these guys are hungry! too funny at the end he's like "oh god! this is just too much work!" and has to lean against something.
The slow loris is the world's only poisonous primate. Its venom is stored in an elbow patch: the loris will suck in the poison from the patch, then mix it around in its mouth before delivering a toxic bite. So, when illegal traders catch them and sell them on, they usually remove the hapless creatures' teeth - with wire cutters. If ever an animal needed to be fast, it is the slow loris
Do y'all have any clue as to the lux ratings of indoors vs outdoors? Proper dental tools are pretty cheap.
These creatures certainly require more care than cats and dogs, but just because they're pets for some does not make those pets abused by the owner.
Once pets are in circulation, they become domesticated and are most often removed from the hands of those who aren't going to care about them and are going to treat them poorly. Open your brains a bit, pity-pushers. You're overgeneralizing.
@MovingUpp Your missing the whole point. It has nothing to do with the abuse of the owners. Its the whole principle of owning wild animals and putting videos up to show the world that it is ok to own these animals which is not ok. The pet trade will only get stronger if more ignorant people want to buy them.
@MovingUpp Well here's me opening up my brains. Wire cages are seriously damaging to the sensitive feet and hands of the Slow Loris. They have a special circulatory system that requires people to be delicate with their little foot pads. If this person was even trying to take care of them, regardless of whether it's somebody who bought one or "rescued" one, they should know enough to keep them away from what can harm them. Suck on that.
If any of you disbelieve me as to the nature of their persecution and inevitable extinction in the wild, just do a google search with the terms "slender loris" and "aphrodisiac". The results will appall you.
@EshtarWind Well maybe in your area that is so, but in many locations such as in India, the major threats are habitat loss and locals who believe that eating their flesh cures asthma or provides aphrodisiac qualities, or those who deliberately kill them because they are believed to bring bad luck, the list of primitive beliefs goes on. The fact is that they are on their way out unless they are sanctioned by international law as exotic pets, and harsh penalties for their mistreatment enforced.
@bonezillion Well the cat's out of the bag with respect to their conservation status. Even if they were all left alone in the wild, the extensive habitat loss due to far worse human negligence would already do them in. All domestic animals were once wild, and if we want to keep these wonderful endangered species from disappearing from the earth, people are going to have to start keeping them as pets. Lorises are largely nocturnal, yes, but so are cats. Even in zoos, they're in light.
Please, people do not look at these videos and think its OK to own Slow Loris and other wild animals. They are not meant to be kept as pets, let them be in the wilds. These animals are not being bred, they are stolen from their habitats. All you are doing is encouraging poachers to further ravage their already abysmally low numbers. All so you could feel good about having some cute, exotic property.
If you really cared about endangered species, you'd see that an animal that is well cared for and protected in the homes of human beings who love them is way better off than the ones in the wild who could die of disease or be killed by local tibespeople who think their bones are an aphrodisiac or something. Animals have no concept of "exploitation", only people, and if you really care about their wellbeing, you wouldn't be spitting in the faces of people who want to give them good lives!
@beketaten Those people don't want to give them "good lives". They want to shove it in their friends faces and show off their cute and exotic pet.
Most people don't take care of them. Like these slow lorises are in light. They are nocturnal. The light hurts their eyes.
Their lives would be better in the wild. Every animal dies. Fucking lions die in the wild...that doesn't mean I'm going to buy one. Death...well...c'est la vie. But these animals are not domesticated pets. They are WILD.
@beketaten Good live and 'humanizing' animal is different. I'm in vetmed, we learn about animal welfare and human egoism. Animals can't talk, when they're obese they cannot tell you they're not healthy. love doesn't equal keeping as pets. That's just shallow.
I'm a local, I know that myths that usually protect them are ignored nowadays because people want them as pets. Now the balance has been broken by one word: MONEY. Locals are hunting them because people want them as pets!
@beketaten So then what you're saying is we should take every wild and endangered animal out of their rightful habitat and domesticate them so that they can live? Well here's an interesting idea for you... stop the fucking habitat destruction and poaching. What's the point of domesticating every animal? They have every right to be where they belong, instead of being waited on hand and tooth by human beings who have no idea what they're doing.
CUTE? This is a tortured Creature! This is not a Pet!
Loris have been popularized as pets in viral videos on YouTube. Slow lorises have their teeth cut or pulled out for the pet trade, and often die from infection, blood loss, poor handling, or poor nutrition.
Deep-rooted beliefs have popularized their use in traditional medicine. Slow Loris and Lori products are sold in markets in Southeast Asia and smuggled to other countries, such as Japan. STOP THIS!
It is threatened with extinction due to a growing demand in the exotic pet trade, and has become one of the most abundant primate species on sale at Indonesian pet markets. Its teeth are often pulled out before being sold as pets which can result in infection and/or death, this process makes reintroduction to the wild impossible. It also suffers from habitat loss, which has been severe in the areas in which it is found.
It is not only the teeth pulling fact, because people will still complain they can be pets, its the fact they are an ENDANGERED SPECIES! They are not bred as pets, they are taken from the jungle to become pets, meaning they will never have the opportuinity to breed, as many wild animals will not breed in captivity. If people keep buying them their numbers will decrease until theres only a few left til extinction. So people who buy them are contributing to their future extinction.
@mrcheekycheeks Look at all the animals that have gone extinct in the Brazillian Rainforest because of deforestation and the tribes of indigenous people being kicked off their land. I'm just curious, what are you doing to stop the legal trade of Slow Loris's to Russian pet stores?
@BTC141 Your should have just put your foot in your mouth. First of all I rescue animals, I go all over the world doing it. I have eduaction on animal biology, philanthropy, and its part of my job to know these things, or else I wouldn't have one.
Further more even if I did not do this for a living, me even making comments about what I KNOW on this subject in my opinion is getting the word out there, besides what I do, in order to help stop the illegal trade of slow loris's.
@mrcheekycheeks Give me a break. You haven't done shit for any animals anywhere anytime. And if you did have any education on what you say you have it most likey came from a Cracker Jack Box. SLOW LORIS IS LEGAL IN RUSSIA THE OPERATIVE IS LEGAL. Why don't you fight for the rights of animals in slaughter houses. Oh, that would contradict your hypocritical stance as you are a big fan of the Quarter Pounder. You're just here trying to make yourself look like someone you aren't.
@BTC141 What, quarter pounder? You are off your nut. And I love how you SOMEHOW "know" I'm not who I say I am.....this whole conversation got pointless real fast with you, thats for sure.
@mrcheekycheeks If you were such the animal activist then why is your account page filled with celebrities? I suppose you're defending the rights of endangered celebs on Hollywoods C and D list. I don't see any footage of you deep in the trenches protecting any endangered species. You're just another talking head.
"First of all I rescue animals, I go all over the world doing it. I have eduaction on animal biology," where's the proof? lol, thanks for the laugh, I needed it X)
@BTC141 Actually funny you say that I just made an endangered animal video and put it up about two weeks ago, I had one of the very few people subscribed to me comment on it,I forget their name but they have a cartoon guinea pig picture as their avatar. I actually go to school and am going back in september to get even better qualified for what I do. Am taking a vet tech course in september. I wish we could meet so you could actually know I am doing what I say, unlike most people on here i know.
@tyebraun "I'm gonna fuck both your mothers into never being able to have kids," lol tough guy only when it comes to the keyboard at home. I already fucked your mom and you got born. She should of had the abortion. GO BACK TO WORKING AT MCDONALDS. "FUCK YAA MMOTHERSS," LOL you're a joke pussy.
@mrcheekycheeks i took bio in high school. i also took physics honors engineering one and two and trig. honors engieering in high school along with aerospace honors engineering, design drafting auto desk auto-cad and cnc certified. guess what fuck you both for thinking your better. you are both immature fucks who dont know shit about eachother. fuck your mothers. fuck your others for having you both. i wish i could fuck them so hard they couldnt have kids like you two little shit heads. im 19

For anybody who's curious about how is this animal abused before it gets to the hands of its owners: Type In Youtube's Search Engine "SLOW LORIS ANIMAL CRUELTY"
This is an endangered species that was taken from it's natural habitat. This is horrible. A video like this makes the Loris even more vulnerable than it already is. Sure he looks cute and his owner probably loves him/her but if you know anything about the treatment of Loris and how many are killed for a profit or how thousands die from infection from having their teeth yanked out with pliers it's not so cute. One live Loris pet represents hundreds that died on the way to market.
i mean what is more practical ,going out to the jungle and hunting a rare animal or getting 2 and breeding them ,more pratical and more profitable, thats what drives the black market, money, even if they are illegal it doesnt mean people arent breeding them ,i would think your much less likely to be caught breeding them than poaching and shipping them from locals where their looking for that sort of thing
ive seen them on talk shows & there are bright studio lights & the handler never said it hurt them, also no need to remove their teeth the venom gland is in the elbow & you can be exposed just as easy from the elbow, the venom is only mildly toxic anyway, not a threat to people or pets,i would never buy or condone people buying poached ones, but if their bred from a small breeder population its ok & deters poaching, just cuz their illegal doesnt mean that their all poached, most R from breeders i bet
I am furious. Do you not realise the stress and cruelty involved in keeping a wild animal as a pet in this way. I can see the stress in the poor animal's eyes and it's a terribly sad image that will forever haunt me. YouTube needs to stop allowing such videos. They are blatantly cruel.
I do not, however, think these endangered animals should be sold as pets. They are not domestic animals, they have to get their teeth pulled due to their poisonous bite and their "enjoyment" when tickled is because that is their defense mechanism in threatening situations. These are extremely adorable animals, but we should not be anthropomorphizing them, and assume they enjoy their captivity. It is illegal to own one please dont egg owners on.
Its teeth were ripped out because the loris (vulnerable to extinction) can deliver a toxic bite and is then effectively doomed because of infection. Most don't last very long after that.
Unable to fend for themselves lorises can't be returned to the wild once caught. Ripped from their parents, who would clean the infants, their skin becomes covered in urine and faeces.
A nocturnal animal is effectively being blinded by the daylight in the video.
Actually yes. I'm sure if enough people outside of Asia wanted one of these pets, then they would become commercialized here. You say they are treated horribly and have high mortality rates but most of their deaths are contributed to bad handling and infection from black market dealing. If they were to be brought here we could find more humane ways to make them pets, domesticate, and breed them so poaching wouldn't be necessary. All pets were once wild animals, capitalism fixed that.
Dumb little creatures aren't they... One was trying to eat a piece of food while the other tried to steal it when there was a whole bowl of them right there! Wow,
I disagree again, most of those that are pets in places like Russia and especially Japan, are from private breeders, the trade value of the animal mostly depending on the record of how well the breeder has prepared them to market, again, much like thorough bred dogs. And once again, like dogs and particularly cats, there's always a sub standard level to this, which could be more effectively policed. btw they are at 'risk,' not endangered. Also my argument is pure advocacy, no one has much facts.
I disagree, i think people should adopt them, as long as they look after them, and feed them just like a dog they'll be fine. As long as you wait till there about 1 to remove their two long teeth, its just like have having a dog spade in a way, they should then make perfectly acceptable pets.
@wysey100 It's not about taking care of them. It's about how they're attained. They could be taken care of very well, but they need to be taken from somewhere...And they're taken from the wild. The more people who have these guys as pets, the less we see them in the wild and that's not right. Their population is already very small, and it's becoming even smaller.
Slow lorises are threatened by deforestation & the exotic pet trade, are hunted for their large eyes as local traditional medicine, turned into a wine said to alleviate pain, often eaten dried or smoked for food. They are listed as "Vulnerable" "Endangered" by the IUCN. An illegal pet in Japan and United States. Popularity due to YouTube videos showing them being tickled.
Google "slow loris + wiki". Read the wiki about them for yourselves...
Very cute.Sends awareness that a sweet animal like this exists but, it helps to kill its species. POST responsibly. To be "domesticated" its canine teeth are pulled out. Exotic animals should stay where they are, so they are here in the future for our children and ecosystem. Lrg exotic exporters are busted by enforcements often where the animals for sale are diseased and neglected. C videos of the bust in Texas.Y doom a fate for something this cute and sweet. Everything wants FREEDOM.
@xXxMissFirexXx Actually the reverse would happen the demand would be higher and so would abandonment....checkout the spca....which leads to a slough of negatives for the species and ecosystem. Poaching would still be a problem either way.
@xXxMissFirexXx the fact is that we do not get to have whatever we want. These creatures have evolved for millions of years to live in a jungle environment, and they have even developed a bite which is toxic to humans. I do not believe that any animal gets the green light for being a pet. This is why there are laws in place which don't allow them to be pets. The conditions animals in captivity experience make breeding extremely difficult, if not impossible to do in captivity.
@xXxMissFirexXx HI THIS HAS ISSUE BOTHERED ME SINCE READING ABOUT IT IN THE DAILY MAIL. PLEASE GO TO THE DAILY MAIL WEB SITE AND SEARCH KILLER CUTENESS I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS ARTICLE X
@xXxMissFirexXx ITS NOT REALLY A GREAT LIFE BEING CONFINED TO A CAGE FOR 23 HOUR A DAY IS IT? WOULD YOU LIKE IT? THESE ANIMALS CANNOT BE HOUSE TRAINED THEREFORE HAVE TO BE CAGED TO PREVENT WEEING AND POOING ALL OVER THE HOUSE
@xXxMissFirexXx, if people stopped breeding so much, many species would finally get a reprieve. It is human population growth (75,000,000 annually) that has destroyed so much of their habitat, and hunting/poaching adds insult to injury. Man is tampering with nature by constantly crowding it to death.
@xXxMissFirexXx They ARE allowed to be pets- the pet trade is what is killing them, and unfortunately people who love these animals don't know anything about them because they are uneducated about primates. Let me tell you that these animals are commonly bred for life in captivity, where they are separated from their mothers at just days old and kept in the dark so that they won't form attachments with anyone until bought by their new owner. Also, Loris breeding in captivity has low success.
@SElement9 I'm pretty sure that's all bullshit, even in captivity the breeding rates for lorises are too low to be able to support the pet trade, and also the buying, selling, trapping and breeding of this species in particular is banned worldwide (no exceptions), The Slow Loris is protected by the CITES appendix. What usually happens is the poacher will just take the babies while their mothers are out hunting, as they leave them behind when they look for food.
@MegaBoners Yes, the breeding SUCCESS rates are low, but not attempts at breeding. Even though it is illegal, it obviously happens, as you commonly see slow loris as pets. Also, the ban on breeding, selling, trapping and buying slow loris happened in 2007, and it seems as if the slow loris trade has not been completely shut down, although hopefully it will cease completely in the near future.
@SElement91 But what do the attempts matter if the success rate isn't high? And just because it happened in 2007, there are three years where the trade has increased because of western people become aware of the Loris and increasing demand for them as pets. I can't take care of the poachers, but I can inform people on how wrong it is to own exotic vanity pets like this, hyenas and tigers. We just have to eradicate the idea that they're legal to own, docile housepets and okay in human captivity.
F*ck you white devils. You can't adopt the wild. This proves you tricks are demons. I hope the Most High brings a swift death to you beasts. Ecclesiastes 3:18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
@kingsnbabylon dude the bible is retarded dont quote it cuz it makes u sound retarded. stfu there domesticated and they dont seem to hate being fed or being a pet so stfu.
@kingsnbabylon you are a fucking retard i swear i hate fuck religous people like yourself. and yes let god forsacin me and send me to the depths of hell, i welcome it bitch!
regardless if they're endangered so were guinea pigs before we made them a household pet now look at them they 're pampered little baby's so maybe the only way that these creatures will survive is in captivity
Very cute animals! Just like toddlers, LOL........the one on the left just has to have what the other one has....even though the very same thing is in the dish in front of him just for the taking!
the slow loris can bite but only if threatened by a predator or when protecting ther young. their tongue does not contain a toxin but they do have glands on their elbows which they suck a toxin out of and mix with their saliva. the toxin is fairly mild if you are bitten- the bite will swell and the only fatal cases are from the subject falling into anophalatic shock-(not how you spell it)
their immunity is actually relatively strong just mix in vitamins with his food and dont use a diaper.
you know these animals are endangered and although they are adorable and i would love to have one myself the way they treat them to bring them here is horrible and it is extremely illegal to take them from there natural habitat
...of course, before you invest in the 1500 to 2000 it will cost to own a Lori you should do your research to make sure you have the knowledge, finances and space and time and commitment to take care of these little guys. ANd make sure you know of a vet in your area that will treat them before you bring your guy home.
You guys....you can get a captive bred Slow Lori...most are captive bred anyways since they make better pets...There are breeders who breed these little guys. And what wild are we really keeping them from? Oh, you mean the one that humans are decimating on the daily and they are hunted and poached and die of starvation and disease and parasites.....right...cause we should all put our Slow Loris back in that wildlife habitat...what a dream life!
this is actually a form of abuse to keep slow loris in wire cages: because of the way their paws are structured it injures them evey time they are pulled away from the wire! Also, They often have their teeth torn out by pet dealers so they can be sold as "babies" Please don't even think about them as a pet. See wiki for more facts about loris
I want one....il get a chihuahua instead cuz they are legal to own. omfg but i want a slow loris so much....they are so cute but i hear they get nervous very easily so i dont think that would be good. maybe in the next 10000 years they will be perfect as pets....

The fact is that they are on their way out unless they are sanctioned by international law as exotic pets, and harsh penalties for their mistreatment enforced.
beketaten 3 months ago

All so you could feel good about having some cute, exotic property.
deceptant 3 months ago
If you really cared about endangered species, you'd see that an animal that is well cared for and protected in the homes of human beings who love them is way better off than the ones in the wild who could die of disease or be killed by local tibespeople who think their bones are an aphrodisiac or something. Animals have no concept of "exploitation", only people, and if you really care about their wellbeing, you wouldn't be spitting in the faces of people who want to give them good lives!
beketaten 3 months ago

EshtarWind 3 months ago

STOP THIS!
DrSchoenstein 6 months ago
Dont buy them !!!! their being abused and wont soon exist if we dont leave them alone!!!
shimmerpink4 6 months ago

BTC141 7 months ago
@BTC141 Your should have just put your foot in your mouth. First of all I rescue animals, I go all over the world doing it. I have eduaction on animal biology, philanthropy, and its part of my job to know these things, or else I wouldn't have one.
Further more even if I did not do this for a living, me even making comments about what I KNOW on this subject in my opinion is getting the word out there, besides what I do, in order to help stop the illegal trade of slow loris's.
mrcheekycheeks 7 months ago
@mrcheekycheeks Give me a break. You haven't done shit for any animals anywhere anytime. And if you did have any education on what you say you have it most likey came from a Cracker Jack Box. SLOW LORIS IS LEGAL IN RUSSIA THE OPERATIVE IS LEGAL. Why don't you fight for the rights of animals in slaughter houses. Oh, that would contradict your hypocritical stance as you are a big fan of the Quarter Pounder. You're just here trying to make yourself look like someone you aren't.

One live Loris pet represents hundreds that died on the way to market.
jsg1224 10 months ago
how cute and how innocent.. but some cruel people eat them!
TheAlexis4444 10 months ago
i mean what is more practical ,going out to the jungle and hunting a rare animal or getting 2 and breeding them ,more pratical and more profitable, thats what drives the black market, money, even if they are illegal it doesnt mean people arent breeding them ,i would think your much less likely to be caught breeding them than poaching and shipping them from locals where their looking for that sort of thing
bulletproof2353 10 months ago
ive seen them on talk shows & there are bright studio lights & the handler never said it hurt them, also no need to remove their teeth the venom gland is in the elbow & you can be exposed just as easy from the elbow, the venom is only mildly toxic anyway, not a threat to people or pets,i would never buy or condone people buying poached ones, but if their bred from a small breeder population its ok & deters poaching, just cuz their illegal doesnt mean that their all poached, most R from breeders i bet
bulletproof2353 10 months ago
I am furious. Do you not realise the stress and cruelty involved in keeping a wild animal as a pet in this way. I can see the stress in the poor animal's eyes and it's a terribly sad image that will forever haunt me. YouTube needs to stop allowing such videos. They are blatantly cruel.
ChrisJBrady 10 months ago
ew, don't steal food out of someones mouth... aw.
It is illegal to own one please dont egg owners on.

izzyczzunow 10 months ago
@izzyczzunow
Do you still want one?
kehmulke 10 months ago 30
@kehmulke
All pets were once wild animals, capitalism fixed that.
izzyczzunow 10 months ago
@kehmulke Actually, you're wrong. Their bite is not toxic, their venom gland is in their elbow.

Poachers hunt them in the wild. Many times they kill a mother to get at a baby. Also many exotic animals die in transit.
Poachers only care about making money and have little regard for the health or safety of the animal.

ZephyrPhoenix 10 months ago
I disagree again, most of those that are pets in places like Russia and especially Japan, are from private breeders, the trade value of the animal mostly depending on the record of how well the breeder has prepared them to market, again, much like thorough bred dogs. And once again, like dogs and particularly cats, there's always a sub standard level to this, which could be more effectively policed. btw they are at 'risk,' not endangered. Also my argument is pure advocacy, no one has much facts.
wysey100 10 months ago 2
I disagree, i think people should adopt them, as long as they look after them, and feed them just like a dog they'll be fine. As long as you wait till there about 1 to remove their two long teeth, its just like have having a dog spade in a way, they should then make perfectly acceptable pets.
wysey100 11 months ago
@wysey100 It's not about taking care of them. It's about how they're attained. They could be taken care of very well, but they need to be taken from somewhere...And they're taken from the wild. The more people who have these guys as pets, the less we see them in the wild and that's not right. Their population is already very small, and it's becoming even smaller.
DESERVANT 11 months ago 2

Slow lorises are threatened by deforestation & the exotic pet trade, are hunted for their large eyes as local traditional medicine, turned into a wine said to alleviate pain, often eaten dried or smoked for food. They are listed as "Vulnerable" "Endangered" by the IUCN. An illegal pet in Japan and United States. Popularity due to YouTube videos showing them being tickled.

@xXxMissFirexXx Actually the reverse would happen the demand would be higher and so would abandonment....checkout the spca....which leads to a slough of negatives for the species and ecosystem. Poaching would still be a problem either way.

xXxMissFirexXx 1 year ago 49
@xXxMissFirexXx the fact is that we do not get to have whatever we want. These creatures have evolved for millions of years to live in a jungle environment, and they have even developed a bite which is toxic to humans. I do not believe that any animal gets the green light for being a pet. This is why there are laws in place which don't allow them to be pets. The conditions animals in captivity experience make breeding extremely difficult, if not impossible to do in captivity.

mattybates78 7 months ago
@xXxMissFirexXx, if people stopped breeding so much, many species would finally get a reprieve. It is human population growth (75,000,000 annually) that has destroyed so much of their habitat, and hunting/poaching adds insult to injury. Man is tampering with nature by constantly crowding it to death.
Antithropocentric 6 months ago
@xXxMissFirexXx They ARE allowed to be pets- the pet trade is what is killing them, and unfortunately people who love these animals don't know anything about them because they are uneducated about primates. Let me tell you that these animals are commonly bred for life in captivity, where they are separated from their mothers at just days old and kept in the dark so that they won't form attachments with anyone until bought by their new owner. Also, Loris breeding in captivity has low success.
SElement91 4 months ago
@SElement9 I'm pretty sure that's all bullshit, even in captivity the breeding rates for lorises are too low to be able to support the pet trade, and also the buying, selling, trapping and breeding of this species in particular is banned worldwide (no exceptions), The Slow Loris is protected by the CITES appendix. What usually happens is the poacher will just take the babies while their mothers are out hunting, as they leave them behind when they look for food.
MegaBoners 3 months ago
@MegaBoners Yes, the breeding SUCCESS rates are low, but not attempts at breeding. Even though it is illegal, it obviously happens, as you commonly see slow loris as pets. Also, the ban on breeding, selling, trapping and buying slow loris happened in 2007, and it seems as if the slow loris trade has not been completely shut down, although hopefully it will cease completely in the near future.
SElement91 3 months ago
@SElement91 But what do the attempts matter if the success rate isn't high? And just because it happened in 2007, there are three years where the trade has increased because of western people become aware of the Loris and increasing demand for them as pets. I can't take care of the poachers, but I can inform people on how wrong it is to own exotic vanity pets like this, hyenas and tigers. We just have to eradicate the idea that they're legal to own, docile housepets and okay in human captivity.
MegaBoners 3 months ago

is it true his tounge carries toxin ?
thank you in advance my friend

they can be very dangerous
TrancEII2010 1 year ago
the slow loris can bite but only if threatened by a predator or when protecting ther young. their tongue does not contain a toxin but they do have glands on their elbows which they suck a toxin out of and mix with their saliva. the toxin is fairly mild if you are bitten- the bite will swell and the only fatal cases are from the subject falling into anophalatic shock-(not how you spell it)
their immunity is actually relatively strong just mix in vitamins with his food and dont use a diaper.

this is actually a form of abuse to keep slow loris in wire cages: because of the way their paws are structured it injures them evey time they are pulled away from the wire! Also, They often have their teeth torn out by pet dealers so they can be sold as "babies" Please don't even think about them as a pet. See wiki for more facts about loris
