My last German Shepherd used to jump up on closed doors, put her paws on the handle and stare at it until she eventually pushed it down and the door opened lol
German Shepherds were bred to be superior in intelligence. They are thinking dogs and have the intelligence of a dolphin which is the equivalent of a 3 to 5 year old above average human child.
before you know it he'll be letting himself in and out to go to the bathroom & if you train him, he'll close the door behind him....lol....seriously! you'll get hooked on em too!
wow, this must be your first GSD...just wait, you'll be hooked and you'll get another and another..and they will train you well..read up, they are the 2nd smartest dogs..They are addicting..LOL..I <3 GSD's..with a passion..time for another, I've had 5 in my years of having pets...
i feel bad for this dog. i hope you didnt leave him out too long. i know they are smart dogs and they will survive without humans but how long do you leave him out there in the cold before he has to open the door himself to get let back in.
my german shepherd jus turned 13 today and hes still kickn pretty good, no wobble or anything, still gets me beer from the fridge, every ten years or so i trade in my old german sheperd an get me a new one
nice dog but im not sure this has anything to do with being smart i have a pit that can open screen doors and hes dumb as a doorknob but he did it once and now repeats the behavoir
@MrGunluver yea i geuss ur right cuz hes really crafty he can get out od his harness and learns tricks real fast he just dont have any common sense for a dog
bullshit he isn't smart at all he just scratches at the window and since its slippery surface he slides to the side accidentally pushing the door open and i bet he thinks it opens up by scratching at the door he has no idea that it needs to be slid
Lmao!!! My shepherd is the same way, but she uses doorknobs and slides the windows open! I don't care what anyone says, shepherds are the smartest dogs! (:
The dog was whining to be let in because that's where his owner was, not because he "was freezing". And the owner was taking a less than 5 minute video showcasing his dog's ingenuity, because he was impressed and proud. He was ten feet away were anything bad to have happened.
@davidjohnschrader that dog was not cold my GSD will spend hours outside in the north west Ohio winter helping with work (he just likes being outside "guarding me ")
*attempts opening the door* doo doo doo doo doo NOT DOING ANYTHING! *second attempt* la la la la la ! haha I love these pups, I NEED TO HUG MY GSD NOW!
German Sepherds are so clever. I used to close mine in the back yard, so that he doesn't attack to strangers, and somehow he could escape and come to the front yard. At first I was like "WTF", but then I saw him opening the door using the handle. And since then I have to lock to be sure he doesn't eat anyone :)
@truckertoby24 To what childhood memories are you referring, exactly? I was never left outside in the snow, crying to be let in. And you call me a bitch like it's a bad thing! rotflmbo
@leftycharlie My GSD does the same exact thing, just figured it out. Also he opens draws, cupboards. I have to doggy proof everything. His curiosity taught him everything he needs to know. He is just learning it in this video, because when he gets it down, it's time to doggy proof.
This adolescent had NO body fat and was outside in the snow crying. I don't think his owner deserves him if he could just watch him freeze like that...and he had the nerve to call the DOG crazy!! smh
German shepherds are awesome. My friend has a Wolf Hybrid part Timber Wolf part German Shepherd that thing is smarter than some Humans thats all I can say lol! Wolves are alot smarter than Dogs combine that with the mind of a German Shepherd you get one pretty smart Dog.
Mine broke through the patio screen and opened the sliding glass door when I left her out too long. I was shocked when she walked in and started licking me.
my GSD does the same...he knows exactly how to open each and every door in our house...hahaha! scary intelligent! I have to put him on a leash to prevent him from doing unnecessary things...I will just off leash him once I have the time to watch over him to make sure he won't be of any danger...mine was very curious...he would get anything that interest him...he was never hesitant to know something even though he has an idea that its sort of dangerous...he fools me most of the time...hahaha!
I love the sounds German Shepherds make. It really is like they're trying to talk. I had one when I was a kid who would look you in the eyes and make all kinds of sounds. He would also "sing" along with people during songs.
My GSD opens the screen slider door and pushes the handle on my screen door and lets his self outside. They are the smartest and the greatest dog you could ever have.
My little girl was the same, 15 weeks old she managed to push down the cats box from a chair, move the chair, climb up onto the chair and open a closed door that opens to the inside. she is 11 months now, best dog in the world in my opinion ;)
Good lookin pup man, We have two shepherds, Abbey and Niko.... German Shepherds are head and shoulders above any other breed of dog. Again, good lookin dog, take care of him, cause rest assure he'll do everything in his power to take care of you.
my four month old learned to do that her self to now shes 11 months and she learned how to unhook her leash when we leave her outside in the summer i dont know what i would do without her its true wha they say dog is mans bestfriend and she dont talk back so shes better then eny girl ive ever been with lol
that dog was four months and that big!wow!i love german shepherd dogs and i am supposed to be getting one soon!!they are the best dog breed out there!!how old is he/she now?he/she is very smart!!
@leftycharlie I hear you, when my last German shepherd died last Nov from cancer, i literally lost it. I got my new dog in Feb,, pure bred German shepherd from a shelter! what luck! She's a great dog, loving, loyal, alert, she's not really crazy about other dogs though,, but good w/cats,lol.
@leftycharlie i got a 5 year old male, named Don, bit longer fur... love him immensly, and he loves my whole family. Protects the house and the yard, if i go to sleep he lays on the floor next to me and protects me while i sleep, never lets any other dog attack me, no matter how big they are... Best dog breed in the world! Smart, brave, protective, loyal and very beautiful! :D
OMG! I love this video. I had two German Shepherds that did the same thing except they opened the door and got out of the house. lol I agree with you that German Shepherds are the smartest dogs. I have a 13 month old male named Niko and he's a whip. Good luck with your beautiful puppy.
Oh snap, I have the same damn coffee table! Also we are getting our gsd puppy in about 3 weeks. We picked out Baron for a name. He'll be 8 weeks when we get him.
So glad I did not see anyone cite this as an act of cruelty. This man very much loves his dog more than anything. "Daddy" would not let anything happen to his baby ... that's very evident! What we saw here is this breed's incredible, beyond-belief intelligence. I own four big males (Aries, Apollo, Hades and Zeus) and have owned a total of 9 through my life do far. They get frighteningly more intelligent with age! LOL!
German shepherds are so smart!! When mine was about 4-5 months old she also learned on her own how to use a door handle (easier than opening a sliding door though)
Vary smart dog. He looks about five/six months old and already knows how to open a door.
