In your message you are presuming to know the truth and standing on a pedestal with people you have on the doorstep.
It’s quite difficult in any western country to find people that have never heard your kind of “the good news”, they have already dismissed it as nonsense, that is why of their reaction.
Is it ignorance knowing nothing about Mohammad and Islam?
It is ignorance to know nothing about Mohammed and Islam.
That's why when people say Im ignorant I think to myself 'Of coarse every person in the world is ignorant'. The only way to not be ignorant is to be omniscient.
Preachinshawn I appreciate your effort... We live in a "what's in it for me" world, and it seems to me the best way to get someone to follow Jesus is this... In most cases Atheists often seem very intelligent, and they like their logic. So I say, get insurance. Smart, logical people cover all their angles, and have insurance if they can afford it. Why bet your whole eternity on a 50/50 gamble? Atheists say we're just dirt... Jesus says "Heaven or Hell?" Both are forever... FREE Insurance anyone?
Devil's advocate: 1. Prophecy can neither be proved nor disproved. It is simply a belief in coming events. 2. The instant you prove or disprove a belief, it moves from faith to fact. Example - Europeans used to believe the Earth was flat. 3. Tautological arguments won't win the day. Example, God exists because the Bible says He exists. That's no different than saying "I didn't steal that bike cuz I said I didn't steal it!" What it really boils down to is have faith & live a good life :)
@preachinshawn Yes, I've had a very good life & have been fortunate. I'm educated. I've done well professionally. My family is around. I have my own personal relationship with God and I have spiritual peace. My health hasn't always been the best (I'm sick now, in fact), but it could be much, much worse. I'd like to think I made a difference to somebody, somewhere. Find peace for yourself and in Him, do good and live life. Do that and I think things will turn out ok. Laterz.
if a stranger walked to your house with a really good looking cake, and the dude looked just as freaky as you do, would you take it?
I wouldn't...I'm not gonna eat or take any cake into my house that some stranger made.
Does this mean I don't like cake? OF COURSE NOT, I LOVE CAKE!
Does you going to their door, telling them that you have good news and them rejecting you mean that they don't like good news? OF COURSE NOT! They just view you as poison
I think evolution is true , controlled by our Heavenly Father . Don't waste your time trying to convince these people about Heavenly Father , they know he is there . They are just wasting your time . Spend your time doing good for others that need it , there is no such thing as atheism , nobody is that stupid .
I would LOVE to talk to you! You are willingly ignorant. I'm sure you were raised this way... ... sad... That verse was completely subjective. Can you tell me about the early start of Christianity? 100 years after Jesus? Why didn't a single person right down his name?
The people you harass at their doors *do* care about good news and their lives. They just know that you aren't actually talking about either of those, just about your religious dogma. They're trying to brush you off without seeming rude.
And indeed, "few" will find eternal life, if by few we include zero.
Likewise for you. However, knowing a fair bit about human nature, and having done this myself and personally spoken with people who have done it, I know that it's fairly common that when people don't want to listen to door-to-door evangelizing, they don't generally just come out and say so. They politely brush them off.
“That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence.”
― Christopher Hitchens
By this same "logic" (I feel guilty using that term for this drivel), all of the beliefs and prophecies made by other groups should be believed by theists. Of course, theist reasoning won't go into areas that contradict their deep physiological need for invisible sky friends.
So let me get this straight, accept Jesus as your saviour and what not (your version of Jesus) or you go to hell, all jews, muslims, atheists, Buddhists and members of the church of the spaghetti monster (not forgetting the reformed church of the spaghetti monster) will go to hell and anyone born before christ will have gone to hell. This is the definition of a loving God?
Eternal life sounds so boring, even heaven might become a drag after 3 million years. Not to mention the convicts you have to share it with, because they got saved in the end. Isn't there a way to choose for eternal nothingness? Kinda like the same before we were born, no pain, no fear, absolutely nothing to worry about... seems alright to me.
I don't really see how that scripture in Matthew is really a 'prophecy'. It's really more like a proverb, if you don't mind me saying so. It doesn't really foretell an actual event that will be witnessed directly on earth, but is really just a warning that salvation is difficult to attain, and those seeking it through easy and convenient methods are most likely on the road to destruction.
Your beliefs are yours to keep or share, but I don't think that scripture is really 'prophecy'.
Wut kind of god is prone to petty human emotions? Jealousy & vanity r human qualities, a truly worthy god probably wouldnt care about such worthless trivialities as the countless , random deeds of the inhabitants of a small planet in the boondocks of the universe. The god u worship seems so small & localized. I argue that any God capable of creating the universe has to be far beyond any of our comprehensions. U dont know the nature of god any more than i do, and 4 u 2 say that u do, is arrogant
@atheistZombieJesus i can say that i understand the nature of God because i understand that he has the capacity to do all...you put a limit on what my God is capable of doing, but i put none...i understand that he created all the universe and everything in it, yet still has the ability to know the number of hairs on my head
@jtbullfitghter But why would an all knowing, all powerful, eternal God still demand worship and repentance. Is he so vain and petty, why isnt he beyond silly human emotions. The bible describes Yahweh as vengeful and jealous. Well that doesnt sound very divine at all, that sounds like any random, silly, little human anywhere. Thats the point i was making. When christians describe their God, they make him sound prone to petty human emotion. Shouldnt a true God be above all that?
@atheistZombieJesus You're right, God is far beyond our comprehension, except, that is, for what He has revealed about Himself in scripture and what He has revealed in His creation. If you don't see God in His creation, and you don't accept the scriptures as His revealed Word, then of course you will be blind and not know Him, because you deny His handy work, His signature if you will. But deep down inside you know He is, at least you knew it once before you seared it away.
@4GodSoLoves The bible describes yahweh as vengeful and jealous, in fact the 1st 3 of the ten commandments demand that u worship him and only him. A truly worthy God would be beyond all petty human emotion. I doubt an eternal, omnipotent God would care so much about the petty little deeds of a small minded species on a small planet in the boondocks of his universe. If there truly is a God, i hope it is not the God of the bible. That character is an ogre.
@4GodSoLoves First u agree that we cannot comprehend the nature of God, then u go on to explain to me exactly that. U christians claim to know more about God than anyone else on the planet, u are the most deluded and arrogant people on earth
i see the masses behind him. so many followers. i am familiar with the good news, only i don't find it so good. i am not believing anything wrong. eternal life and eternal hell is a fantasy. churches should be not tax exempt. god has brought death and pain upon babies and the innocent. god is very often in a very bad mood in the bible.
First of all I don't believe and all powerful and all knowing being could posses vanity.
Aside from that if people doubt, than they believe the information they are presented with could be a lie. Think about a time in life when you were telling someone the truth, and they were convinced that you were lying to them. A situation like that may displease the one telling the truth, and I can only speculate that God might have those same feelings.
Thank God there are still real Christians left. Its funny how the atheist hate the fact that they are or "MAYBE" wrong.(They are wrong) Science has truly blinded the masses. They would rather believe an alien deception than to worship Jesus. Indeed the path is narrow. The strange thing to me is.... All prophecy has came to be. the only ones left are those of the end times. I see the end times prophecy's being fulfilled everyday now. God Bless. =)
@PeaceLoveMichy Damn this is funny. "Science has blinded the masses"? Yeah that gravity this is a total lie and physics, total bullshit. We should just assume everything is magic. I could go on for days but I don't plan on responding when you respond because you obviously lack the ability to reason.
I am dumbfounded. What is this? You can't seriously expect a non-believer to just start believing because of some words in a book, do you? Seriously? I find that incomprehensible. It's as if someone took the Hobbit, and started looking for Mt. Doom, because they assume that it must be a real location, because it's in a MAN-MADE/WRITTEN book.
Your example of indisputable bible prophecy is so broad, that it could encompass just about any reading you want. Sorry, I'm far from convinced.
If you want to get together in any exclusive situation and have people love you, fine - but to hang all this desperate sociology on the idea of the Cloud-Guy who has The Big Book, who knows if you've been bad or good and CARES about any of it- to hang it all on that, folks, is the primitive primate part of the brain working.
Wake up people, all we have is each other. Family, friends, and community are more important than anyone's Imaginary invisible being.
@preachinshawn Athiests belive religion and religous books were created by man. So if you're going to quote from religous books to them, you may as well quote stuff from Harry Potter.
@theMacvarish Jesus, technically, wasnt human. He lived in Heaven with God. He saw the hatred and the sins on Earth and stepped down from the throne to sacrifice himself for our sins, so that we didnt have to sacrifice animals. So, now all we have ti do is ask for forgiveness. So Jesus was human in a way, but did not lie. He was born to a virgin, and grew up like a normal person. But he is heavenely. When he was crucified on the cross, he returned to heaven with God. He suffered greatly, for you.
3:30 lol faith is giving up evidence, reason, logic and getting a so-called truth from god.
We cannot disproof eternal life? Well eternal life is a contradiction in terms. Life by definition is limited in time. Eternal by definition is not. In reality their can be no contradictions. Why? The first law of reality is A is A (Aristotle). A connot be non-A at the same time and in the same respect. Trying to disproof A is A is vain as your proof would be a non-proof.
3:19 Wanting sth to be true doesn't make it so. Reality is independant from conciousness. It's independant from mine, from yours and from your god. If it was not. Than there would be no reality. If A could be non-A at the same time by a wish, than there would be no reality. But reality is real. Any attempt to disprove reality is a failure, this attempt being real, it would proof reality and a non-real attempt cannot proove anything as it is non-proof.
@preachinshawn : A very 'political' answer, you should run for office.
Your Bible book states that Jesus was a man, if that is true then he encompassed all the weakness we embody. By this account he was able to express emotions, such as anger, ask the money lenders, but not lie. On a seperate point why would he speak " only what he got from God" ?
He is God, surely he needs no other to instruct him ?
@preachinshawn "Eli Eli lama sabachthani?" means "my god, why have you forsaken me?"
but if you want untrustworthy, how about when he was bitching at people for not murdering their mouthy kids (Mark 17:9-13)? Or how about Matthew 10:34, "Do not think that I came to bring peace on Earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."
@preachinshawn That saying seems like a cop-out to me. God gives you a direct command in the Old Testament. Jesus affirms the command in the New Testament. But you disobey the command. Why? Is God wrong to give that command?
If you are referring to Exodus 21:17, it is because that was never a command for todays saints. I support the command for the context in which it was given in.
If you disagree I would ask you what the context was in which the command was given? Meaning who was the command given to, and what was the purpose o the command?
@preachinshawn My point is that one can pick and choose what is contextually applicable fairly arbitrarily. What about the commands regarding homosexuality? Gay people don't do anyone harm, for the most part, and most are good people and upstanding citizens. Surely then the commands in Leviticus and other places in the Bible are out of context for today's world, yet most churches agree with them. The reason you have to make 'context" excuses is because much of the Bible is an embarrassment.
@theMacvarish but Jesus gave all of his life to God so therefore he didnt sin...Jesus was God...part of the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit...So basically He is perfect...
If god showed up tomorrow and said, "there is no afterlife, sorry guys" would you still follow him? It seems to me most people follow religion for the REWARD of eternal life. That's not true selflessness.
I will now make a prophecy no theist can disprove. Ten thousand years from now, Jesus will reveal to his followers that he has played a cosmic joke on them and that he is really the Muslim god, Allah. Commence disproving, theists.
I second he said "evidence" I almost lost it. A religious person.....trying to use evidence? Evidence is based on facts, research, and scientific discoveries .....not faith. Just because you believe it, does not make it so.
Seems To Be 7,000,000,000 000 That's Billion People that found a path to life....thats nore than has ever died since Adam & Eve to current day. again less have died than ARE Alive
Typical. 20 seconds of "the word of God" and the other 3 minutes and 26 seconds are the word of this man. By the way, the tiny bit of Biblical scripture you included does not qualify (in my opinion) as "prophecy".
@preachinshawn you speaking for god is impossible. you making judgements goes against the teachings of christ. It’s not up to you to determine what someone knows to be right or wrong.
@preachinshawn not hypocritically, or by appearance. but to assume that you know what god is saying and to offer your insights on what he is saying is a fallacy. The god of the bible is the jewish god, and the jews are gods people. The jews figured out thousands of years ago that speaking for god would be an attempt to control god. Besides jesus preached fearlessness and the questioning of authority not literal abhorrence to the bible. he didn’t even preach that there would be a bible.
@preachinshawn my point is really just to say that you don’t need a bible to have a relationship with god. Jesus made a break from the old laws, not a list of new laws.
the bible can offer insights about a personal relationship with god, sure. but to try and limit the god of the universe to a specific book in a specific time is like trying to put god in a box, and you can’t. It’s a living word not a literal word.
@romney27 'Jesus made a break from the old laws, not a list of new laws.'
Matthew 5:18 "For truly I say to you, Till the heaven and the earth pass away, not one jot or one tittle shall in any way pass from the Law until all is fulfilled."
Jesus was very clear that he did not come to change any of the "old" laws.
Why would god's laws need changing? Wouldn't god's laws be never changing? Is he ending them because they were wrong, he made a mistake?
Quote the passages that support slavery and sacrifice cos if you had the power to create the universe thats the nasty shit you'd be into? If there is a god he / she wouldn't be from any of the old world religions
.....here was a prediction by Christ himself. Matthew 16:28 I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom." (NIV)
This "kingdom coming with power" is the appearance mentioned in Mar 9:4 where a portion of those who make up the kingdom of God appeared with power over death. The parallel accounts (Matt 16:28 & Luk 9:27) are also immediately followed by this account. His kingdom is his people (Luk 17:20, Luk 17:21) and here it was made up of Elijah and Moses with Jesus. Since Jesus just mentioned one (Luk 17:22) of his comings (Matt 16:27), he then mentions another one which was soon to occur.
No one can disprove anything the Bible says,in the same way that no one can disprove the existence of unicorns or fairies. It is not incumbent on atheists to justify their un or non-belief in an entity for which no positive proofs have ever been attested. A statement is only scientifically valid if it can be potentially disproven. The existence of God cannot ('existence', as Kant wrote, is not a predicate); therefore, atheists do not need to justify their rejection of God.
[correction] The very idea that this can be called a prophesy is just absurd. 85% of Americans claim Christianity- you do NOT fit in if you're an atheist. Globally, there are 2 billion proclaimed Christians. If you didn't think your premise was true and that there is a huge number of Christians (which there is), you would say this "prophecy" was just a metaphor.
The very idea that this can be called a prophesy is just absurd. 85% of Americans claim Christianity- you do NOT fit in if you're an atheist. Globally, there are 2 billion proclaimed Christians. But even IF the premise were true that there aren't many Christians, and I had been the one to show YOU this "prophesy," you would have just said it was metaphor.
atheists don't need to disprove it. you need to prove it. Your faith and ancient scripture is not proof. all religions have ancient scripture and devout worshippers. What other evidence do you have to offer apart from your sincere faith and the scripture? none.
If this stuff is true, where do Muslims go? Where do Buddhists go? Hindus? Sikhs? Pagans from around the world? Honestly, I am just curios. I was once religious, but somehow I lost my ability to believe.
gods perfect + god made everything = impefection? god makes temptation, shows it to two humans that did not know good and evil, humans eat it, humans fault?
"the evidence can be seen in door to door evangelism"
In other words, the proof that the Bible is true: preachers knocking your door to peddle their religion. How groundbraking...
I am so glad to live in an apartment, they never manage to enter the building.

Jesus did not take our place to allow us to sin, in fact we must decide to turn from sin before we accept his free gift.

Im unsure what gave you the impression that I "have problems admitting [I am] wrong".
All of us should be open to correction because the opposite of that leads to pride.
It's amazing but some people I talk to have never heard the good news, or even know who Jesus is, and that's ignorance.

Laterz.

One thing about "the early start of Christianity" is that they met in people's homes.
Is there a specific year you are curious about?
The name we know as 'Jesus' was certainly recorded within 100 years. The book of Galatians is just one instance.
What is it that you believe Im "willingly ignorant" of?

U dont know the nature of god any more than i do, and 4 u 2 say that u do, is arrogant
atheistZombieJesus 2 weeks ago
@atheistZombieJesus i can say that i understand the nature of God because i understand that he has the capacity to do all...you put a limit on what my God is capable of doing, but i put none...i understand that he created all the universe and everything in it, yet still has the ability to know the number of hairs on my head
jtbullfitghter 2 weeks ago

First of all I don't believe and all powerful and all knowing being could posses vanity.
Aside from that if people doubt, than they believe the information they are presented with could be a lie. Think about a time in life when you were telling someone the truth, and they were convinced that you were lying to them. A situation like that may displease the one telling the truth, and I can only speculate that God might have those same feelings.
preachinshawn 2 weeks ago
Dude. Listen to yourself. You just said: God doesn't possess vanity.
Then he would NOT be displeased by doubt. That's simple psychology.
Next, you said (and I quote): "I can only speculate that God might..."
If you can only SPECULATE then maybe you shouldn't be God's spokesperson.
BTW, I'm not an atheist, but it's ridiculous for us to make claims so far over our own heads.

Trying to disproof A is A is vain as your proof would be a non-proof.
maximemeis111 3 weeks ago

@preachinshawn My point is that one can pick and choose what is contextually applicable fairly arbitrarily. What about the commands regarding homosexuality? Gay people don't do anyone harm, for the most part, and most are good people and upstanding citizens. Surely then the commands in Leviticus and other places in the Bible are out of context for today's world, yet most churches agree with them. The reason you have to make 'context" excuses is because much of the Bible is an embarrassment.

It’s a living word not a literal word.

any day now.......

Matt1196
This "kingdom coming with power" is the appearance mentioned in Mar 9:4 where a portion of those who make up the kingdom of God appeared with power over death. The parallel accounts (Matt 16:28 & Luk 9:27) are also immediately followed by this account. His kingdom is his people (Luk 17:20, Luk 17:21) and here it was made up of Elijah and Moses with Jesus. Since Jesus just mentioned one (Luk 17:22) of his comings (Matt 16:27), he then mentions another one which was soon to occur.

If you didn't think your premise was true and that there is a huge number of Christians (which there is), you would say this "prophecy" was just a metaphor.

atheists don't need to disprove it. you need to prove it.

That's not a prophesy, that's a metaphor directed towards encouraging good behavior.

gods perfect + god made everything = impefection? god makes temptation, shows it to two humans that did not know good and evil, humans eat it, humans fault?
