  • It's suppose to be an extremely formal event and they line up looking like cheerleader try-outs...British way is best, black cloak with only the hoods' colour differing.

This way it is easily understood and likely to be taken more seriously, they look like clowns here.

  • In Britain, black gowns are prescribed up to Master's level degrees, and also the 'undress' gown for PhD. Our full dress doctoral robes can be ever bit as colourful as this US doctoral regalia.

  • Americans have no idea about academic regalia

  • @andrewgdfh Thats because theyre busy working and not sitting around sipping coffee.

  • Bachelor's degree regalia in Australia have hoods.

  • what´s that song in the beginning? i know it from somwhere, but i absolutely forgot the name.

  • It's the 'big tune' from Pomp and Circumstance March No 1 in D major by Elgar. Often sung as 'Land of hope and glory.'

  • pomp and circumstance.

  • thanks a lot! ;)

  • @kate3011 Pomp and Circumstance

  • The bachelors degree has a hood.

  • There is a lot of information missing from this video, particularly that there are lots of colors for lots of various doctorates other than the Ph.D. Also, there are some institutions which use a bachelor's hood, but it is not very common.

  • I've finished my bachelors, am graduating this month and my regalia has a hood.

  • UCLA ROCKS!
