I don't believe it is so wrong to claim the heritage that is rightfully yours. It is possible for other ethnic groups to live in Mexico and migrate to the US. EX: several Italians during WW2 migrated to different parts of the world; one of those locations was Mexico. In fact there is a group of Italians that reside in Aguascalientes. One should be proud of their true heritage, not the one others think you should have. Just because some might reside in Mexico does not mean they have Indian blood!
I hate it when I speak Spanish and they answer me in English. I know they can speak Spanish because they had a huge accent but they insist on talking to me in English. I am not Mexican but I am fluent in Spanish. Be Proud of your language that is the only thing that no one can take from you.

They still call themselves Spanish because they were granted that land by Spain. Mexico only controlled that territory for 20 years. They don't recognize Mexico as ever having owned that area.
