Reading the actual police report will tell you the cops were called for the dog growling at a woman and her child while chained. What the dog did in the past has nothing to do with this instance. The dog was chained, it wasn't at large.

I am a professional animal handler and the one thing was certain the officer did not know how to use catch pole properly and the dog was not aggressive at any time on film so what was missing besides the fact that it had attacked a child. I am willing to bet - by the dog's response to the officers at first -is the child may have provoked the attack. Never the less this was too sad for words for all involved.

While I don't agree with what the cops did here, it's hard to second guess what fully was going on. Also noticeably absent is any commentary on the owner Marcus May's allowing this dog to run loose prior to this -- it was chasing and growling at people, and he was later fined in court.

Early in the video they were petting the dog, they probably could have coaxed it into the cage without the stick. Once they put the stick on the dog it struggled but it was not a threat. Reading the actual police report will tell you the cops were called for the dog growling at a woman and her child while chained. What the dog did in the past has nothing to do with this instance. The dog was chained, it wasn't at large.
The cops should start culling themselves too, instead of slaps on the wrist.

The dog showed no aggression, and was happy to get petted by the one officer and allowed him to put a leash on her. I can't see why they didn't just put her in the back of the squad car rather than tying her up to the back of the pickup truck then trying to snare her with that control rod.

I am a professional animal handler and the one thing was certain the officer did not know how to use catch pole properly and the dog was not aggressive at any time on film so what was missing besides the fact that it had attacked a child. I am willing to bet - by the dog's response to the officers at first -is the child may have provoked the attack. Never the less this was too sad for words for all involved.

@jadeteletubbie I think the problem is that the case is being overstated in one direction. La Grange has no animal control, these cops either have the animals sent to Hannibal or are destroyed. While I don't agree with what the cops did here, it's hard to second guess what fully was going on. Also noticeably absent is any commentary on the owner Marcus May's allowing this dog to run loose prior to this -- it was chasing and growling at people, and he was later fined in court.

@moone924 Actually there were multiple complaints from even the neighbors stating that this dog has chased them and it was taught to keep people away from the property as a guard dog because the owner is a drug dealer. Besides, there is ZERO indication in this video that the dog is anywhere near "vicious", it's a big baby from what I can see.
My dog isn't vicious, but he'd be flipping out if two people, ANY two people he doesn't know, showed up in my yard while he's out there and I'm not home.
He certainly didn't need to be trained to do that, it's instinct.

@connolly8228 I read all the cop forums, the new paper articles etc. The dog growled at some woman and her kid, chased someone in the past, yet never bit anyone. All kinds of dogs growl daily and it's not a bases to kill them. The owner may be a -total waste of life- but that dog deserved a chance. I'll happily tell anyone what I think of cops in person. They aren't anything like Andy Griffith in Mayberry like they should be, they're a beast with unlimited power that relies on fear and lies.

@moone924 The dog never should have been loose...do some research on Marcus Mays (who is a convicted animal abuser who was barred from having dogs for 2 years in 2007). To state that a dog chasing and growling at people isn't a risk is absurd. Mays contributed to Cammie's behavior, and these two cops then killed her. All those proclaiming animal cruelty need to petition against Marcus Mays as well as the two cops, but for some idiotic reason I'm not seeing this on this Youtube site.

You're all stupid. This IS NOT the ENTIRE video. The entire video is 68 minutes long. The owner was given the tape and edited out the dog going after the dog. Not to mention the owner has been charged with many things in the past including animal abuse. They did what they had to do. It's a tough situation with really no other solution without a shelter or animal control in that county. A lot of you are making nothing but assumptions. Please stop. You make America look dumb.

Don't they have some kind of intelligence test at the LaGrange PD? These officers are just flat out retarded. Early in the video they were petting the dog, they probably could have coaxed it into the cage without the stick. Once they put the stick on the dog it struggled but it was not a threat. That is unless you are too stupid to be a police officer, then there might be a problem. These "officers" need to be demoted to janitor otherwise what are they going to kill next, some unruly kids?

Anyone have the back story to this video? Why is there no sound?, Why was this at was going on the this was being taped to begin with? Why were the police called out to this scene? Do the police know their being taped? Anyone charged? Why was a control stick being used when the dog was tethered? What was the reasoning given for murdering this dog, in front of what appears to be her family? Who is filming this?

This is horrific. The dog appears friendly even while the cop was petting it. It got scared by the pole and rope, it remained scared.
