@Yakkers171717 no that is not gma 950 2.4 ghz macbook's don't have gma 950 because they are newer (macbook 3.1-7.1) only the first two versions of macbook had gma 950
Timmy two questions are you running TF2 on a WidowsXP bottle or Windows2000? and the second do you think L4D will run on a macbook? i think it will but i want to here your opinion thanks.
Windows 2000 for steam with PC fire fox installed in the same bottle, well it looks like it makes the requirements but it all depends on how compatible it will be with crossover games, hoping there will be a demo or a free weekend, I'm very interested to give it a go once it's out
@timmyt6 Does firefox make any difference at all? I recently got CrossOver Games 9.1.0 and I am gonna get Steam via Download and then install TF2, I have the MacBook 4,1 (2.4 Ghz, Intel GMA X3100). Also, would you advise a Windows 2000 bottle over a winxp bottle?
not sure i think the ram may let it down not the chip, maybe wait until the next free TF2 weekend and try it with the crossover trial, unless you know someone you can borrow a steam ID and try it
i just looked at the minimum specs it says 1.7GHZ and 512 ram so going by that it should be ok, assuming your macbook is the newer model with the GMA X3100 with 144 vram, but i would suggest a ram upgrade may be required can't really be sure. A lot of people ask about the 2GHZ with 1 gig ram macbook, so if you try it and it's good let others know :)
Well, I have the very famous GMA 950 with a rockin' 64MB, though I've managed to get Portal and Half Life 2 working fairly well on DirectX 8.0, so maybe this should turn out the same with the right tweaking.
Is it more reasonable to play windows games using boot camp or crossover in terms of performance? Have you tried doing the same thing using boot camp?
i did try bootcamp with vista and XP at first but came across trouble because of the macbook graphics chip and lack of a card it may have needed drivers but i could not find a solution, but give it a try i gave up quickly. Running crossover other then bootcamp probably uses less system resources, but saying that when i upgrade my desktop mac to a intel i will probably run bootcamp for games along side crossover, for me right now crossover games is my TF2 player for my macbook.
OMG thank you so much yesterday i got TF2 and got it running on my 1 gig ram 2.0 ghz it so good but i still got some trouble, i wanted to know on what level do you put the graphics on and if it crashes sometimes on your mac thanks!
i run mine at 1280X800, 16:10, fullscreen (if you try and put it in a window at that resolution it will crap itself and you will have to wipe everything and start from scratch).
Model detail on medium and all others are on the lowest settings. Get the istat pro widget and when it crashes out check how much ram is free if, you may have a memory leak, ram is being taken by other open programs, or simply not enough ram to run it properly, the recommended is 1 gig but OSX will use about half of that
forgot to say i am going to wipe my computer this weekend and when i put steam and TF2 back on i will post steps on how i got it to work like this hopefully i will still play the same after..., i didn't do anything fancy at all..all i know is i couldn't get it to work in vista or XP on the macbook : /
if it's the macbook with the GMA X3100 (the new one) and it has the latest leopard updates, i think the chip would be fine, the ram may let it down once i reinstall my computer i will see how much having steam and TF2 running eats up ram and power.
@captainclayman No it won't run at all

How come when I used CrossOver on my Macbook (same exact thing you have) it lags a bit, runs well, then completely stops running and crashes?
Am I doing something wrong?

I don't understand how you're running Steam off of the MacOS. I thought Steam was only for Windows, no?
TwirlySocrates 3 years ago
Crossover Games - it offers an implementation of win32 binaries that allow you to run Windows games on a Mac (some at least).

Thanks..
mackiethe1for 3 years ago
Yeah same question on how it works when the vid card is the same on all regular macbooks. How is tf2 running so smooth.
Now only if there are people are willing to give out details to help others out. :)
