From the ol' "Storyteller" Mr. Tom. T. Hall..."Back When Gas Was Thirty Cents A Gallon" (1980) Still my favorite dreary cold November song when I'd be out in the field with this on the fender-mount Motorola AM radio tuned in to KWMT listening to this and Big Red while shredding stalks on a open cab '68 John Deere 3020 gas! Good warm memories to take the chill off a cold day. :-)
@welnish I bought a new mustang in september 66 a left over and got if for $2600 dollars and liked that car more then any i had before and after. Wish i had keep it. O well we all make mistakes.
What a great old song. I've not heard it before but the words sure remind me of when I first went to work in 1967. Gas was .29cents a gallon and I was in love for the first time. We were married in 1970 and divorced in 1973. It took me many many years to get over the fact that she didn't love me anymore. This goes in my favorites and I plan to learn it and put it on my channel. Thanks a million for sharing. ***** Sherrill
Cheapest I remember gas is: 6 Gals. for a Dollar & as the sign said "Try Ethyl first". :-0 I'm 83-i think that may have been when Hi-test first came out.
Say Ann i might record this ole tune.kinda like it. I like Tom T Hall. he is one of my favorites. If youve been to my channel you can see that.thanks for posting Ann. Great find. JIM
Back when it was 30 cents a gallon the station attendant would say we came in, bought 50 cent worth of gas and threw a dollar worth of gravel over the fence when we left.
Great song - but I have a request - do you have 'it's just one of those songs by tom t hall' - many thanks

I remember when a hamburger, a gallon gas, a pack of cigarettes, and loaf of bread were all about 15 cents and my brand new Mustang was about $2400.

@welnish , yeah, now add another 40,000 to that price today for a REAL mustang

gas wars were popular in 1962! We were just married and gas was around 23 cents a gallon. Those were the good old days!
