Oh wow. I'd never heard this one before. It's amazing (though the amount of high-quality falsetto in this song makes me worry that Mr. Zimmerman may have done injury to himself while recording this).
Holy smoke, Roy. I can't decide whether a guy with your level of talent doing political satire is a terrible waste or an awesome stroke of luck. This song's getting favorited, I'll tell you that.
Wow. Looking at my comment that says, "What kind of guitar is that?" I realized how much history it must have. There's a picture of him 1985 with a guitar that looks exactly like that. I think it's the same one because it has the same line on the bottom left of the pick guard. That's so crazy.
Yet another bullseye combination of satire and awesome music so full of feeling that the message is magnified geometrically. Greetings and support from Sweden. Keep at 'em, Roy!
give em hell ...Roy...you know, that mythical place hotter than Florida. If Hell is full up, then just give them Florida complete with mildew, hurricanes and rednecks.
You know, I like the Youtube renditions of Roy Zimmerman's songs more than the iTunes versions. (It's happened enough for me to call it a trend.) Zimmerman really ought to release the audio from the Youtube versions for purchase on his site.
I can't wait for the opportunity to post this as a comment to the next 'superdelegate story' that pops up...I love your sense of humor Roy ... Keep up the good work!
Excellent point. I confess I'm not a fan of his singing... but I love his songs! I send his "Defenders of Marriage" song to people sometimes. It suppresses my urge to slap them :P
Completely brilliant, as always. Just forwarded a link in an email to our rep Lynn Woolsey (U.S. Rep and superdelegate who, despite "representing" THE most pro-Obama district in California, is currently "pledged" to Hillary). How very "democratic"! The whole system is, indeed, insane. Love you, Roy!!!
Lynn Woolsey is some kind of jerk. She remained a delegate for Kucinich previously, telling a local supporter wearing a Kooch shirt she would "never make that mistake again" or something to that effect.
I'm assuming it was tuned down a half step for another song, i was just basing my comment upon the fact that the capo looks to be placed on the third fret in the video. He might have kept his guitar tuned down a half step rather than tuning it normally and placing capo on the second fret. Also he could have chosen to do this to achieved a desired deeper/heavier tone
Its not superdelegates that are the root of the problem, but the entire process. An elected official that will hold office in the federal government should be elected based on a nationwide popular vote. Sometimes the most simple solution is the best. What the Obama supporters who are shouting about the superdelegates dont tell you is that while Clinton has 49% of the popular vote now, even with the pledged superdelegates she is underrepresented. Look it up yourself, beware of "weird math"
In third grade, you learn about the election process. One person-one vote. Then the teacher explains the eletorial college. Your vote is worth more if you live in New York and California or is worth less if you live in Wyoming and North Dakota. When I asked my teacher about this, I was told to sit down and shut up.
If the american election process was used to elect the local high school homecoming queen.....people would be rioting in the streets because the system isn't a real election.
You made me think. I looked it up, In California there were 55 electors in '04, so that means each elector represents about 650,000 voters. In Wyoming however, each elector is representing about 150,000 voters. The smaller the population, the more your vote counts. In a state with 3 people, they'd all be electors. Thanks for making me look that up, because now we know.
Thats some weird math. The states with higher numbers of electorate get more attention, which leads to more *favors* come pork time. And since the electorate has NO legal requirement to vote the way the people in their state voted. Its all a big joke.
Ha, jimsartor sure put you in your place! Weird math? What don't you understand about a per capita delegate ratio? Seriously, you sure made yourself look stupid!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you're the one who doesnt know what the superdelegates do, so if anyone is arrogant its you telling people they're arrogant and not knowing what it means.
Superdelegates are 795 Dem. party leaders, elected officials, etc who can change their vote in the primary at any time. If neither candidate gets enough pledged delegate support (basically, the popular vote) then the SD vote will decide the nominee. They could, conceivably, give the nod to the candidate who earns LESS popular votes. Next time someone asks an honest question, don't be condescending. You want people to join the political process? Stop making them feel stupid when they try to.
Thanks louspants :) I wasn't all that sure either. And completely agree with you on what you said to samuelshepard. There's no need for him to be such a jerk.
"I hope you're not this arrogant in person." Oh, I'm pretty straightforward actually. I was rather surprised that someone would ask this question here, when, alternatively, a 10 sec google search would have answered your question.
I feel it's worth pointing out, though, that Walter Mondale was not autocratically chosen by the superdelegates. Yes, he was the favored candidate of the party leaders, and no, he didn't have an absolute majority of pledged delegates, but he had more than Gary Hart or Jesse Jackson did. What would be the alternative to the superdelegates? Letting whoever has the "most" pledged delegates, even if it's not an absolute majority, be the nominee. That still would have been Mondale.
Yeah he'd be the perfect replacement for that 'Daily Zen' crap that is nearly always empty and unfunny. It would end the show with a strong note of comedy, politics and spirit that is present in the rest of the show.
