Free market deregulation that caused 2 recessions in the 80's, another in the 90's, 5 million unemployed, ignoring the needs of Wales and Scotland and she decimated manufacturing in this country. What gets me about those who make Mrs. Thatcher out as some sort of demon, was what life would have been like if we'd carried on under Labour on 1979 like is was some bed of roses. Unless the Tories somehow get back that "Thatcherite" spirit, I expect to see UKIP and the BNP make gains out of Cameron's "beauty contest" with Labour. But I do feel the days of just two party dominance will gradually fade away with a new political landscape forming. Labour, never mind David Cameron, have helped to create this.

She is so fucked. Britain used the European monetary union as a deflationary mechanism which resulted in soaring unemployment. They unrealistically pegged the Pound to the Deutsche mark makin british goods too expensive. They lost market share and made firms go bankrupt, production to be cut back and workers to get fired. What gets me about those who make Mrs. Thatcher out as some sort of demon, was what life would have been like if we'd carried on under Labour on 1979 like is was some bed of roses. Times were hard in the 1980's but at least we didn't have the unions on strike preventing us from collecting the rubbish or burying the dead!

Unless the Tories somehow get back that "Thatcherite" spirit, I expect to see UKIP and the BNP make gains out of Cameron's "beauty contest" with Labour. But I do feel the days of just two party dominance will gradually fade away with a new political landscape forming. Labour, never mind David Cameron, have helped to create this.

Look to your history books. Every 30 years a Labour government nearly bankrupts the country - 1949, 1979, 2009 and that is a fact. Every 30 years a Tory government has to dig us out of the sh*t. God know what would have happened if Maggie hadn't won in 1979.

@blatantboy86 Thatcher did not achieve the sheer scale of the Labour landside in '97 under Blair. Clearly, more people liked Blair than Thatcher. The only people who like Thatcher are the people who are positioned less right wing than Nazis, but more right wing than an average modern Tory.

Just looked it up, he died on the driveway of his home, the bomb was actually in his wife's car. You could be getting confused with Airey Neave? To be honest I've not heard of Carol Thatcher being involved with either of their deaths though.

She is so fucked. Britain used the European monetary union as a deflationary mechanism which resulted in soaring unemployment. They unrealistically pegged the Pound to the Deutsche mark makin british goods too expensive. They lost market share and made firms go bankrupt, production to be cut back and workers to get fired. She is not amazing. She was a xenophobe who was affraid of traveling into Africa, who proposed and implemented legislation that made it harder for immigrants to become citizens and who acted with British imperliastic methodology. Don't judge someone by how they speak or what kind of orator they are. Judge them by their legacy and hers is protectionist and supremacist at most.
