How To Access Router and WiFi Router Configuration

@LightSwifty The router password has nothing to do with your computer. Every router comes with a default password. If no one has changed it, it will be the factory default

@varacrim You probably have more than one network adapter (wired, wifi); only 1 needs to have a gateway to get on the internet.

Scroll up, perhaps and make sure you are seeing all of your adapters.

@james0roll 192.168.1.4 is probably your PC. 192.168.1.1 is probably your router - from a command prompt, type "ipconfig" (no quotes). the default gateway is usually your router.

I want to change my ISP to one which insists on their netgear router. My current router allows me to set time limits on access for specific wireless devices to prevent the kids staying up all night on the internet. The sales rep seemed to think this is not possible, but surely there must be a way, even if it means doing it manually every night. Do you know if this would be possible?

@Tommogunn I think most routers have this option, cannot say for sure they all do. If not, another option is to use an electric timer - but the kids could always manually turn that on.

Thanks for this !. Let me tell you a funny story. I had open security on my router that I used for gaming. I'm talking to my neighbor about wifi and he says yeah "I use some one by PANTERA" (my previous SSID) "cause ~dumbass~ has no password". I laughed with a slight grin on my face. I kept putting off making a password cause I got new computer,lost the disc,and im lazy. So after your videos,and restoring router to factory settings.I got into it and reset my SSID to "DONKEY" haha with a pasword

what you need is the wep or the wpa key

try looking on the back of your router it should say it on the back

Don't know how you will find it; but you can reset to factory defaults but you will lose all of your settings so collect any ISP info you need first.

You can google default logins for your specified router, this assumes the default admin login has not been changed already. If it has, and you are unable to recover the password, you can reset the router and use the default admin login. I believe for your linksys wrt45gl router, the default username: admin and password is blank.

All routers have a method for restoring factory defaults. Do that and you will be back in business.

If 189.220.28.1 is your gateway, then you are bypassing your Linksys.

Should be 192.168.?.? unless you have changed it to something else.

Sure, that's fine. 10.0.0.x is a non-routable private address just like 192.168.1.x

Early versions of Microsoft Small Business Servers came out of the box with 10.0.0.x networks.

Depends on the actual hardware, but possibly not. Some do allow a type of bridging mode.

The Linksys Travel Router will do that, though.
