Gotta love the whole backfilling Muslims and even Judeo-Christians do to justify their holy books.
It used to be, science was rejected if it didn't fit into the interpretation of scripture, now they're changing the interpretation of scripture to fit the science. Well, they have to, don't they?
Great vid (as always)! I just wanted to say I loved the "true/false colour quiz" at the end. I got most of them wrong - but every time I did I laughed! I've never been so delighted to be proved wrong! The images were just so beautiful, and trying to imagine whether such things could actually exist in the universe, was so enjoyable! Thanks!
I think the term "True color" is a little irritating. Every thing appears differently depending on the (sun-) light that's shining on it and the atmosphere that's filtering it. Nothing in this Universe really has a "true color" because how do you define "True"? a rock from Mars looks different on Mars than it would look on earth. In another solar system it would also look different because the sun would be different.
Notice the demon face in Cas-A? God's trying to say you are on the wrong track. But seriously, demon faces can be seen anywhere. I saw plenty on the wood paneled homes of my youth. We need to see faces to know if a predator has us in its sights. I've gotten my cats freaked out by two circles and two lines I drew on posterboard. They did that whole raise head, lower head, sniff the air and approach thing.
:) Another great video, surprisingly, since no graphic ownage was involved.
Let's see, two things I wanted to say...
Oh, first, I believe it was Potholer54debunks who mentioned in a video that some families or towns of humans have evolved the ability to see colors in the UV spectrum.. One of them should bust out a telescope!
Secondly, just wanted to say that I correctly guessed all the true/false color images :)
I think that was AronRa, actually, in one of his Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism videos, talking about beneficial human mutations. The trait being discussed was a tetrachromatic eye.
when people say we evoled from monkeys the mean we evoled from a older version of monkey that evolded into both humans and modern monkeys you see today.
Awesome video. I got all the test images correct. ;) Good rule of thumb: if the colors appear intense, or extremely varied (i.e., a lot of green also with a lot of red), it's probably false color.
Where exactly did I say the (complete) definition of religion X was limited to simply NOT being any religion from the set of all other religions?
All I said was that there are additive properties, ajudaic, a-islamic, abuddhist etc. which can be tagged quite validly onto any religion other than the one associated directly with the tag.
"Atheism is "without gods""; Christianity, for example, is "without other gods" and is thus lacking those other gods/religious beliefs.
* well, at least for any religion which calls for it's followers to be exclusive, which afaik is all of them.
"Does that mean you can define ... Aislam?" along with a lot of other A*'s to each and every religion.
A muslim who has never heard of christianity is by definition, an Achristian, as they lack belief in christianity, they lack all knowledge of it so how can they believe?
No one in existance will ever have known all the religions that ever existed, so everyone is an A* to some extent.
I disagree, it's implicit with the command to "worship no other god".
Worship no other god is the "intensional" definition; do no worship allah is part of an extensional definition (which would basically just be a listing-out of all others gods than the christian god).
I'd also disagree that christianity (along with every other religion) is not the opposite of atheism, since each one is simply an instantiation of the general template for theism.
And then you have weak atheists with strong tendancies to specific systems (though im my experience, for generally valid reasons), just to confuse the matter xD
John you are correct on your 2nd post but incorrect on the first. Dawkins does NOT say children are atheists. I think you would agree with me that they are non-theists.
JohnHolmes, denying the existence of a god can be strong or weak, depending on the argument. If you look at the etymology of the word "atheist", it means "without god(s)". If you think about it, anyone who doesn't believe in ALL gods are atheistic towards the gods they don't accept, and only theistic towards their own.
No, it's a statement, whether it is true or not remains to be shown.
Atheism can be the belief there is simply no such thing as a god, but it can also signify a wider rejection of theism as it is currently known (similar to rejecting the notion that the earth is flat). Lack of belief in a religion is also atheistic, just as a lack of symmetry is defined to be asymmetric (i.e. not symmetric).
Currently, there are two major types of atheism- weak atheism, which is what AW is talking about, also described as teapot atheism, and overlaps significantly with agnosticism, which is a denial of knowledge of god(s). This means that a person has no reason to believe in any specific god. This is also very close to the idea of the universe or nature as god, as described by Spinoza, Einstein and Plato.
Then there is strong atheism, which says that there cannot be a god of any sort.
JohnHolmes3000: Atheism is intrisincally more rational. It does not teach that there is no god (that would be a faith-claim). It simply teaches there is no firm evidence. It is just a lack of faith. Consequently, those who label themselves as Agnostic are also Atheists.
"So are you saying the jet stream could be anti-matter?"
No, wildbestia is referring to Hawking radiation, but that is not causing jet streams.
It's actually a very complex process, I'll try to give you the current consensus:
When interstellar gas is pulled towards a massive black hole, it is first shaped into a so-called accretion disk, spinning around it. The enormous gravity heats up the gas and ionizes it. As a result, this gas creates a very strong magnetic field...
Now General Relativity plays its role: a black hole is spinning too, extremely rapidly. And this creates a relativistic effect called 'frame dragging'. The rotation of the black hole starts to distort the magnetic field of the accretion disk: the field lines get twisted like a cork-screw, perpendicular to the disk. So as gas spirals towards the black hole, it gets deflected and ejected along the coiled magnetic field, creating 2 jets.
XGralgrathor, I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about. If I don't know something, I'll look it up, or just not make it the subject of my video.
« I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about. If I don't know something, I'll look it up, or just not make it the subject of my video. »
Too bad. What with the definitions for time and existence and all, I'd have thought that Hawking's no-boundary proposal would per default be more accurate, the universe not beginning at t=0, but at lim t=>0. But I'll keep looking.
I have never suggested that the Universe began at t=0, and furthermore I've never alluded to the big bang being the beginning of the Universe. The big bang is simply the solution to all Friedman solutions at t=0. As for the boundariless hypothesis, you must be aware that it is in hot debate within the scientific community at present.
« you must be aware that it is in hot debate within the scientific community at present »
Of course I am. I think it's one of the more interesting topics. I was just wondering if you knew what the latest developments in this area were, or what your own opinion on the matter is.
"So are you saying the jet stream could be anti-matter?"
no, anti-matter is attracted by gravity just as matter. black holes emit some sort of radiation, first predicted by string theory and observed later. I don't think physicists know exactly what it is.
I am a fan of thunderfoot...and a number of others...but i have to say that ur vids are...with lack of a better word...more hip. i dig the music and the message...and after all...im feeling like a god a damn master of biological evolution. Having a different view is fantastic. well done.
"Why do black holes, when feeding, emit a jet-stream of radiation? "
Quantum mechanics answers that. Any book will do.
I don't think it's possible to write the explanation here. Maybe someone will be making video on that subject. Also, not everything is well known today and well explained.
But the idea comes from existence of anti-matter, anti-energy. So the black hole attracts one and repulses the other.
All I can say is thanks for the video's, It was pretty informative. I like video's that put the universe and or scientific discoveries in to a visible perspective. Can't wait to see the great video's you release, not intending to add hype lol Just remember to keep it civil, don't be to ruff with the creationist. "Peace"
So if im right when its true color there are "in between" colors where it shifts from one to the other but if its false then the color just instantly changes from to the other with nothing in between
Very cool, thanks for this video. A few questions I have, where does the scientific community stand on the matter of dark matter/energy? Pretty much believed to be real? And what about the ultimate fate of the universe, a collapse in on itself or an ever-expanding, eventual "burnout" where most matter is turned into heavy elements so new stars cannot be formed? Just some questions I find elusive or controversial.
Astronomy began to really fascinate me when I realized just how unbelievably much there is to see out there. It humbles me to no end, while at the same time it's an uplifting thought that there's so much beauty and so much to uncover and explore.
I'm an atheist, but when I see pictures of thousands of galaxies speeding through the endless darkness I feel something that might resemble god adoring awe.
I am an biologists, so although I enjoy vids about evolution, they seldom teach me something really new, but your vids about cosmology are completely fresh air and some proffessional attitude about this field of study was really needed here on youtube, for ignorance spreads rather rapidly.
Until now I consideret astronomy to be dull, although cretards forced me to learn some basics. Thanks for sharing this knowledge in such a fun way.
Another well done video. How can anyone look into the universe and see an invisible space man looking back, it seriously contracts the universe to something small and dirty. When it is a nearly unfathomable expanse of beauty.
i am trying to transcript it, but i am stuck in some words, so please check the text below, and above all the CAPS part:
Ehi! What's up !? It's AndromedasWake here.
This is the first INSTALLMENT of a new series OF videos, WHICH would be addressing both frequently asked questions and just really good questions that EACH OF YOU is messaging me.Rest of show: crap debunked will continue, but because i started to get a huge quantity of questions, i feel quite REED HAD TO GIVE short and rush answers
so every now on then i'll make KEUL AND ROUND of video which will hopefully help to filling gaps. I'm sorry in this video AIN'T BEEN particularly polished, but it's unscripted decided from a few images i know i want to use so BARE with me and we'll jump straight in these MATTERS KEYS. Yes i'm an atheist and i have been really since about the age of 15, up so THERE i guess i WOULD CALLED myself a MODERATE religious, though i DIDDN'T really have any religious OBLIGING...
Hey AW, this is a very interesting video you have here. It's quite informative, and sheds new light on astronomy for me. I have a few questions though. Have you ever heard of APOD (astronomy picture of the day)? It's a site run by NASA that has a new astronomy related image daily. Google APOD and click the first link. Also, if humans could see all of the electromagnetic spectrum, would the night sky be very very bright?
Wow. You'll be in Science vs Creation elite in no time, that's for sure. Great vids that really give new ideas for those who aren't that familiar with astronomy!
Thanks for the link lennyhipp, some great images there. I didn't want to include the absolutely massive images in the description as some viewers may be waiting a while for them to download!
I have a huge poster of Cas A in wonderful quality on my wall though :)
Great vid AW! For those of you interested in Hubble's Ultra Deep Field image, there is actually a MUCH higher resolution one on wiki: tinyurlDOTcom/345jm7
the resolution is >TWENTY FIVE times better than the one in the video description!
This site might be of interest to your viewers as well;
tinyurlDOTcom/4k5wxv
It explains in detail the way STScI assigns color to the B/W images and WHY. It also explains the wacky shape of some of the photos.
for learning more about astronomy, I recommend Stellarium, its a free program that allows you to find almost any object in your night sky. Like a telescope on your computer where you can set your place on earth, the time, (future, past or present), and zoom in/out on any object. great for amateur astronomers
Stellarium is indeed excellent. I also recommend the latest version of Google Earth with the built in Sky browser. Lastly, check out Celestia, a nice program that lets you tour the Universe in glorious 3D, and track space missions at their current positions.
I like this ,nice cats . Good info ,subscribed & 5 stars although I'm sure there are millions more stars shown on those beautiful pictures...BTW I am off to get an eye test as I only got four right on the colour test.Nice work, get busy on the next video..
Love the videos. I'm working on a mathematics degree with an astronomy minor right now. (Because if you've got to do tensor analysis, you might as well enjoy looking through a telescope. lol)
I wasn't aware of Google Sky, thank you for linking it. I've been using Starry Night and Microsoft WorldWide Telescope. I like the WWT interface a little better, but there's no such thing as having too many good information sources.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Did you know that the Quran had a correct understanding of the earth and the heliocentric model of our system already in the 7th century arabia? Its amazing, isn't it!?
The shape of the earth: 2:22, 15:19, 13:3, 8:83-9, 20:53, 27:61, 43:10, 50:7, 51:48, 67:15, 71:19, 78:6-7, 79:30, 84:1-5,
Copernicus rediscovered it of sorts. Once the Greek and Roman Empires fell, the Holy Roman Empire and Catholicism took control of science, and anyone that contradicted the Bible was deemed a heretic and executed...hence the term Dark Ages.
Well, thanks for the hint. I looked it up, yes it was Aristarchus of Samos (310 BC - ca. 230 BC), who apparently came up with the idea. So, it isn't a scientific miracle of the quran after all, huh?
If anything, I would call it the incorportaion of science into the quran. Through trade and the flow of ideas from the Middle East and Mediterranean area, the authors of the Quran were likely knowledgable about such things. The Old testament of the Bible was written before even Aristarchus, so naturally it wouldn't have been privy to the information. Some ancient peoples knew a lot more than we do give them credit for in some regards.
I'd like to see them predict something useful for a change.
I mean, anybody could've predict that we'd be able to fly, or talk and see across great distances, or move in horseless carriages, but nobody ever imagined what those things would mean for us, how they would influence the basic structure of society, the way we live and think...
Yes, the statements in the Quran are contradictory and inconsistent. They are useless, irrelevant, worthless claims in scientific terms! They only make sense in religious terms. And Islam is not exactly a nice religion too.
LOL! You made a very good point!!! May I cite you in the future?
I am in correspondence with a Islamic fundamentalist, who insists that the Quran is the inerrant word of allah and with a cdesign proponentsist, who wants me to believe in the salvation by jesus christ! :-)
Thank you very much for your opinion and insight about the quranic crap some islamic scholars use to pollute YouTube! It is so ridiculous! The hole idea of "Scientific miracles in Quran" is both absurd and laughable.

please turn down the ridiculously high treble on your mic. every time i hear you say an S sound, it splits my ears in two.

Thrashaero, perhaps it is your speakers/headset - as I did not experience any issues.
Great video mate, nice to see that you have taken the time to respond to questions, some of which I had never thought to ask =)

All I can say is thanks for the video's, It was pretty informative. I like video's that put the universe and or scientific discoveries in to a visible perspective. Can't wait to see the great video's you release, not intending to add hype lol Just remember to keep it civil, don't be to ruff with the creationist. "Peace"

I was gonna ask about the color thing too. Great explanation :)
qumulus22 3 years ago
So if im right when its true color there are "in between" colors where it shifts from one to the other but if its false then the color just instantly changes from to the other with nothing in between

Great video. I cant wait for more.
cydonia21 3 years ago
Very cool, thanks for this video. A few questions I have, where does the scientific community stand on the matter of dark matter/energy? Pretty much believed to be real? And what about the ultimate fate of the universe, a collapse in on itself or an ever-expanding, eventual "burnout" where most matter is turned into heavy elements so new stars cannot be formed? Just some questions I find elusive or controversial.

I would like to spoil the fun for anyone who has not finished the vid. The answers are: false, true, false, true, false, true, false LOL

My questions:
Why is Jupiter your favorite planet? Any reason?
Also, was there a particular thing that inspired CrAP or was it just the lack of debunking creation astronomy videos?

Great video!
Astronomy began to really fascinate me when I realized just how unbelievably much there is to see out there. It humbles me to no end, while at the same time it's an uplifting thought that there's so much beauty and so much to uncover and explore.
I'm an atheist, but when I see pictures of thousands of galaxies speeding through the endless darkness I feel something that might resemble god adoring awe.
janeyanna 3 years ago
I am an biologists, so although I enjoy vids about evolution, they seldom teach me something really new, but your vids about cosmology are completely fresh air and some proffessional attitude about this field of study was really needed here on youtube, for ignorance spreads rather rapidly.
Until now I consideret astronomy to be dull, although cretards forced me to learn some basics. Thanks for sharing this knowledge in such a fun way.

cretards? would those be creattards?

Please correct it :P

Hey AW, this is a very interesting video you have here. It's quite informative, and sheds new light on astronomy for me. I have a few questions though. Have you ever heard of APOD (astronomy picture of the day)? It's a site run by NASA that has a new astronomy related image daily. Google APOD and click the first link. Also, if humans could see all of the electromagnetic spectrum, would the night sky be very very bright?

Great vid AW! For those of you interested in Hubble's Ultra Deep Field image, there is actually a MUCH higher resolution one on wiki: tinyurlDOTcom/345jm7
the resolution is >TWENTY FIVE times better than the one in the video description!
This site might be of interest to your viewers as well;
tinyurlDOTcom/4k5wxv
It explains in detail the way STScI assigns color to the B/W images and WHY. It also explains the wacky shape of some of the photos.
Click on ASTRONOMY PRINTSHOP for hi-res photos!

for learning more about astronomy, I recommend Stellarium, its a free program that allows you to find almost any object in your night sky. Like a telescope on your computer where you can set your place on earth, the time, (future, past or present), and zoom in/out on any object. great for amateur astronomers
dhartin 3 years ago
Thanks for the recommendation.
RouletteRog 3 years ago
Good call dhartin,
Stellarium is indeed excellent. I also recommend the latest version of Google Earth with the built in Sky browser. Lastly, check out Celestia, a nice program that lets you tour the Universe in glorious 3D, and track space missions at their current positions.

I like this ,nice cats . Good info ,subscribed & 5 stars although I'm sure there are millions more stars shown on those beautiful pictures...BTW I am off to get an eye test as I only got four right on the colour test.Nice work, get busy on the next video..
tricky159 3 years ago
Love the videos. I'm working on a mathematics degree with an astronomy minor right now. (Because if you've got to do tensor analysis, you might as well enjoy looking through a telescope. lol)
I wasn't aware of Google Sky, thank you for linking it. I've been using Starry Night and Microsoft WorldWide Telescope. I like the WWT interface a little better, but there's no such thing as having too many good information sources.
Keep up the good work.

Did you know that the Quran had a correct understanding of the earth and the heliocentric model of our system already in the 7th century arabia? Its amazing, isn't it!?
The shape of the earth: 2:22, 15:19, 13:3, 8:83-9, 20:53, 27:61, 43:10, 50:7, 51:48, 67:15, 71:19, 78:6-7, 79:30, 84:1-5,
Our solar system: 13:2, 14:33, 21:32, 23:17, 31:29, 35:13, 36:38, 36:40, 37:6, 39:5, 40:64, 41:12, 55:5, 71:15, 67:5, 91:1-2
Think about it! ;-)
ExMuslim75 3 years ago
And? So did the Greeks and Romans?
mtambors 3 years ago
Really? I didn't know! I thought, it was Copernicus, who came up with the idea of a heliocentric solar system.
ExMuslim75 3 years ago
Copernicus rediscovered it of sorts. Once the Greek and Roman Empires fell, the Holy Roman Empire and Catholicism took control of science, and anyone that contradicted the Bible was deemed a heretic and executed...hence the term Dark Ages.
mtambors 3 years ago
Well, thanks for the hint. I looked it up, yes it was Aristarchus of Samos (310 BC - ca. 230 BC), who apparently came up with the idea. So, it isn't a scientific miracle of the quran after all, huh?
ExMuslim75 3 years ago
If anything, I would call it the incorportaion of science into the quran. Through trade and the flow of ideas from the Middle East and Mediterranean area, the authors of the Quran were likely knowledgable about such things. The Old testament of the Bible was written before even Aristarchus, so naturally it wouldn't have been privy to the information. Some ancient peoples knew a lot more than we do give them credit for in some regards.
mtambors 3 years ago
Don't forget Ancient China, the Celts (presumably), the Maya and the Aztecs

"Its amazing, isn't it!?"
Unbelievable.
XGralgrathor 3 years ago
It's silly, isn't it! LOL ;-)
ExMuslim75 3 years ago
I'd like to see them predict something useful for a change.
I mean, anybody could've predict that we'd be able to fly, or talk and see across great distances, or move in horseless carriages, but nobody ever imagined what those things would mean for us, how they would influence the basic structure of society, the way we live and think...
XGralgrathor 3 years ago
Yes, the statements in the Quran are contradictory and inconsistent. They are useless, irrelevant, worthless claims in scientific terms! They only make sense in religious terms. And Islam is not exactly a nice religion too.
ExMuslim75 3 years ago
"And Islam is not exactly a nice religion too."
It's a religion. It's not supposed to be nice. Like dinosaur killers and tornadoes and volcanoes, they just are.
XGralgrathor 3 years ago
LOL! You made a very good point!!! May I cite you in the future?
I am in correspondence with a Islamic fundamentalist, who insists that the Quran is the inerrant word of allah and with a cdesign proponentsist, who wants me to believe in the salvation by jesus christ! :-)
ExMuslim75 3 years ago
great video but you spelled Andromeda wrong on the first page:) still give it 5/5

Thank you very much for your opinion and insight about the quranic crap some islamic scholars use to pollute YouTube! It is so ridiculous! The hole idea of "Scientific miracles in Quran" is both absurd and laughable.
Thanks again. Keep up the good work!
