  • Needless intellectualisation. Most working class people just can't be bothered to vote. End of.

  • Oh come on! Of course working class people have a voice. They have the right to vote, access to education and to the internet where they can examine political policies and become politically active themselves. People die for those opportunities in other countries. Face it... the majority of working class people are too apathetic to be politically active and would rather go for a pint down the pub.

  • @jayjaypen2

The right to vote for a parliamentary oligarchy is not a "voice".

  • @drcarnage83 If British politics is oligarchical, given the opportunities in our country, it can only be true insofor as an apathetical class of people choosing not to be politically active or educated.

  • thos girls at 0:06 look alright. from behind anyway

  • Love me, I'm a liberal!

  • sorry just noticed that this was posted by the Guardian

Yes the paper that reported that Duffin was only armed with a replica gun when the police shot him and that as it was in a sock it was not ready for action (the reverse is true) without waiting for the IPCC to do their work and THEN blame the IPCC for misinformation fuelling the riots.

  • He also found David Starkey's comments about 'whites becoming black' 'not only offensive but dangerous' not even thinking it is even interesting to consider whether it is true or not, so he is good Labour Material, especially with his Oxbridge credentials. He is articulate but there are white kids from free school meals families who do go to university but they are never portrayed on the media. Only low IQd white working class are ever given air time to reinforce stereotypes

  • Blueform on the face of it you do seem to have a point but Owen remains problematic. He is articulate but by his own admission had a privileged upbringing and does not claim to represent the working class. . On the BBC today (28 Nov) he was drafted in to comment on a report about the white working class being ignored and started talking about the working class in general and their etnic mix and would not refer to them as a separate entity despite attempts by the presenter to

  • whats he on about working class we are all in the same boast unless your a banker come on owen you left when upi was young go back.....it dont mattrer if you are white coller blue coller at the end we all get screwed.....

  • Bravo, the commentators in this really make a compelling point about Owen Jones work. No, lets not deconstruct his argument, thats far too hard. No instead lets demonize him and create an all round red scare. Bravo people bravo.

  • Class structures exist, they are growing and more demarcation is happening now more than ever. I have been hearing about Owen Jones for sometime (twitter) - CHAVS book. Coming from a very working class background .... aspiring to be something I am not for the past 20 years, leaving school early and then later getting a degree and post graduate stuff; thinking I am something and wanting to be part of the educated lefty lot!

  • lol what a patronizing cunt. like most Marxists & Neo-Socialist I'm afraid.

he is really a closet snob & racist! Fuck Owen Jones, communist scum!

  • I'm from Stockport, and grew up on a council estate, and I have to agree with what Owen Jones is saying. The term Chav, is part of a demonization of the working class. Owen isn't saying that the working classes are chavs, he's saying that the working classes are portrayed as chaves through the media. seemingly every television program based in the north of England, such as Shameless and The Royal Family, portray the working classes as, lazy, non-intellectual, alcoholic, criminals.

  • @poetaycle The middle classes truly believe that this is what we are like. Where are the programs about Hard-working Honest people, trying to make the best out of life, Because these are the people that I know. instead the media create a stereotype of a minority, and sell it to the world as the majority.

  • @poetaycle The Lefties upper/middle class only like to glorify the underclass they help create by open-door MASS immigration & EU integration. Along with poor education (for everyone but the rich and middle class) the rewarding failure culture through benefits & free housing for teenage mums. They want to create a class like this because in their deluded marxist brains we lower-classes are really "idiotic weak creatures" who its their duty to feed, clothe, & control in life. I say NO fuck them!

  • @poetaycle Like Corrie you mean?

  • Owen Jones is a marxist cunt and walks like he's shit himself

  • Chavs are working class but not all working class people are chavs. I prefer to call them ASBO's myself. The word itself reminds me of ASDA, where alot of them hang around outside, smoking and spitting on the floor.

  • i don't think a gay northern weakling who doesn't shave should be allowed to have an opinion.

  • owen jones walks like the idiot portrayed by paul whitehouse on the harry enfield show. working class? is signing on at the jobcentre every 2 weeks your idea of work?

  • Im from Stockport, from an estate, suffered in my youth as punk and skateboarder from the behaviour of ‘chavs’, but i still feel he is right and has a good point. When people hate on chavs to make themselves feel superior they are describing people of my background. Hate is hate, prejudice is prejudice - and its wrong.

  • We'd have no chavs or toffs in a more equal society. Instead we spat and call names like bickering siblings who haven't realised they're the same kith and kin yet. Britain has high inequality and that's the root of this factional fighting. Cue abusive replies as proof.

  • knows NOTHING about the working classes!

typical middle-class bourgeoisie pseudo-intellectual wanting to play Che Guevara with the lower classes. The thing this little boy needs to get into to his head people do not demonise the working-class by using the word chavs. chavs are NOT working class since working classes do something they do not that is WORK! for that reason the majority of the working class people HATE chavs.he demonizes the working classes by suggesting the two words are synonymous.

  • could do with some working class judges instead of the public school educated toffs who feel guilty sentencing folk who have had a rougher deal than themselves. People who have actually had to bear the brunt of anti social behaviour would give tougher sentences.

  • I see that this little middle class no-nothing describes himself as "a social commentator" - and what exactly does a pampered little son of privilege like Owen Jones know about the real world and the working-class in particular - I suggest he finds another subject or gets himself a few years experience before attempting to give us his opinions.

  • @ancientraver19881989 Well he has wrote a book, and he's now been interviewed on an international news agency, and you've..........written a short comment, on YouTube...........thanks for the contribution I guess?

  • I saw him argue with Starkey, what shocked me more wasnt starkey's comments but how this little boy couldnt debate other than use the word racist or jump & down when handed some home truths.

He is the typical bourgeoisie patronizing cunt apologist for layabouts who has never had a real job and is guilt ridden towards the WRONG people. Typical guardian reader."international news agency" What Russia (Putin) Today? This proves more he has his own political agenda

rather than his work having merit

  • @LoloStrikesBack2011 well said.

  • Respond to this video... He should address the cynical nature of people on this site. Hear you have an articulate person who clearly has empathy for the working class, and he's scolded on here by likely the very the same people he's trying to provide a voice to. He's very humble, and shouldn't be damned for being able to write, and for actually giving a damn. To those who can't handle what he's saying, step up the plate and do something constructive if you have something to say.

  • @Blueformdesign the majority of "cynical" comments are from people this twat pretends he is championing that is working-class people! if you are calling the very people this idiot pretends to defend (although he has no clue what a working-class person is), then you should realize if the very people this prick thinks he is writing about say his work is garbage than it proves his work has no credit. Other than being marxist dribble.

  • Twat. Nuff said.

  • Owen Jones, what a little libtard bedwetter.

  • "Well, you wouldn't be talking to me right now if we didn't riot, would you? ..."

  • The fallacious view that the word "chav" is synonymous with working class, is only held by liberal middle class chav apologists. Jones implies that the working classes are dispossessed, and then has the temerity to decide what he thinks is best for them.

Working people HATE chavs, chavs are a subset of the working classes, its only the middle classes who stereotype ALL working class people in this way. If you can't understand this fact, you've no right to prescribe a "solution".

  • @angrysmurf3

Working people hate chavs, but half of the people in this documentary would be seen as 'chav' by the younger middle classes, trust me!

  • @angrysmurf3 Agreed completely, apart from one thing: 'it's only the middle classes who stereotype ALL working class people this way'. Maybe I'm misunderstanding you, but it seems like you're saying all middle class people think like that, which is itself a stereotype and untrue. I'm middle class myself and I know that there are a lot of decent, hard working and admirable working class people.

Again, sorry if I misunderstood you.

  • @angrysmurf3 A very good point.

  • I am ashamed the good people of Stockport did not kick the fuck out of these two knob jockeys, with the elitist generalisation on the local population.

  • Watch Out! He`s highly motivated.......... Don`t be beguiled into thinking that he really cares, he`s just using people for his own ends - which is to make a name for himself.

  • @christocloche Because being motivated is a bad thing?! oh right I see....? Well sorry to burst your cynical bubble, but I just watched him in Canada on international TV, so his name has been made. Why not add some meaningful dialogue instead of raining on the parade of someone who's only trying to help? just a thought?

  • I wish this welsh twat would stop justifying shopping with violence he makes a living by eulogizing the working classes

  • @ukipwarrior Considering your name implies that you're are a proud nationalist, I'd have thought you'd have basic knowledge of British geography: As yes, Stockport, that famous Welsh town...

  • Owen Jones. Just watched his synopsis of the events of the last few days on BBC News. The only reason young people are behaving badly is that we have allowed them to. Right now I know a lot of police officers, fire officers, shop owners, home owners, general public who would disagree. I do not want to understand chavs. I just want them gone. Watch west indian woman in hackney to see a really good summing up of what is going on. No comparison.

  • @beths007 if you don't understand them then they will never go.

  • @beths007 And you'd have them "be gone" by what means?

  • brilliant Vlogumentry, Owen Jones is deep. I'm buying his book now!!
