I really like the way she sings this. I don't find many others aside from Lulu's own who's sound I like very much :) This is probably a very hard song to sing real well.
The extra verse was in the movie but not the record version for some reason. Actually it appears in the middle of the song, not at the end. The whole song is split up and appears at 3 different places in the movie. Interesting new version!
Here's another song that I've never heard done other than by the original artist (who in this case was British singer/actress Lulu). The lovely and talented Lesley makes it her own! Her musical powers never fail to amaze me! THANK YOU for posting this treasure of a tune for us to enjoy!!! :-)
What is Lesley doing these days? Would love to see some of her new stuff. Bought all her albums in the 60's. Could you feature some of her latest performances? Thanks for showing this!
I love Lesley, but I don't like this at all. I think she could have done a good job with it, but this is sounds forced and the vibrato isn't natural sounding. I don't think Lesley's a natural belter like Lulu. Still, I give her credit for loving and wanting to sing a truly great song.
Wow now being a Lulu fan, at first I didnt know what to expect but my my, again Leslie Gore does it, she IS so very special! Thanks for posting this one! She is just dreamy!
@chuckyegg4 I agree. Sounds like she is" trying to make it sound different" instead of just letting flow out of her. The phrasing and holding on to the end of the words at the end of sentences????? Even though Lesley "Doesn't Own...." this song, still sounds good!
I love both of these ladies and I never knew Lesley sang this song, but Lulus original version is the best. In fact it is simply one of the most beautiful songs of all time. I did however hear this last verse somewhere else but I can't recall where. It was a long time ago
Really enjoy this version...an interesting different style especially with the added verse. Gives the song even more depth and meaning. Good job Lesley!
@pepperschatz It's not really an added verse, the extra verse also appears in Lulu's version in the movie, just not in her mainstream recording if it.
Lulu was much better and if you listen to the opening song of the movie you will here the long version.

That was a damn good rendition....of course, Leslie should have been a superstar like Petula Clarke....not sure why it wasn't to be.
ultraroadmap 4 months ago
@ultraroadmap Petula Clark is one of a kind. Lesley Gore is fine, but Petula Clark is a human treasure. Just my opinion, anyway.
mvonwahlde 4 months ago
@ultraroadmap Leslie was and is indeed as big a star as Petula but Petula never recorded thjs song anyway. Lulu did

Nicely done. How could you not like Leslie Gore!

And, in a way, she is returning a compliment - because Lulu performed "Off and Running" in the movie "To Sir With Love".

I absolutely adore this version of To Sir with Love sung by the great Leslie Gore!

I've always loved Lulu's original, but I like the slightly more mature voice that Lesley brings to this classic.

@pepperschatz I wished Lulu would of included the 3rd verse when she did the song. The only place I can locate that is in the movie.

@lar7755 The version with third verse is on the soundtrack CD. It's out of print now, but you can find in the web...

I second that.

I prefer this version to Lulu's. Mostly because of the extra verse at the end.
jpw43 3 years ago 6
Lulu also recorded this with the extra verse, on the To Sir With Love soundtrack, and in the '90s on MTV Unplugged.
