  • מדהייייייייייייייייים !!

  • I gather it's not the Nigg near Aberdeen but the one near Tain. Google

    "farewell to Nigg" origin

    and select the result

The Session: Discussions - Farewell to Nigg

  • Excellent. A nice haunting sound. What key are you in? I am guessing Eb major. I have the notes in Bm but I want to learn it on the fiddle in pipe pitch so I will probably have to commence the daunting task of transposing it.

  • Well done, lovely sound.

  • great playing

  • *Very* nicely done!

  • It's a 6/4 March written for the Great Highland Bagpipes by the late GREAT Duncan Johnstone. It's got a few more parts to it as well. You really do this tune justice!!! Beautifully superb!!

Nigg is a small parish just to the south of the River Dee in Aberdeen City in Scotland.

  • This is cools! I play this on my pipes with my band! :D

  • this is awesome! I still like it on pipes though

  • Beautiful...hauntingly beautiful... I'm learning this tune on the bagpipes and I'll never do it the justice you did.

  • This wings me back home. How came you by this beautiful Scottish lament

  • Scottish? and I thought it was Irish

a friend played it to me.

  • No, definately Scots. It is a Highland pipe tune I've known for years and years written by a piper called Duncan Johnstone. Nigg is a small town in Scotland. The tune is scaled within one and a hald octaves just within the confined scale for the "piob Mor" Honestly, nothing Irish about the lament, you can even find Nigg on the map. And the lament is also found in the Scots Guards standard settings of pipe music.

  • Duncan Johnstone (composer) is my violin teacher's dad :D His brother is also called Duncan, making it slightly confusing.

  • Ofer, can I add you do this air justice too. There are lots of similar gealic laments, strathspeys, reels etc that I would love you to hear and would love even more to see what you can do with them.

  • Sure! I like to learn more melodies.

    you know my Email...

  • @Levinger1 No, Scottish, Nigg shipyard is in Scotland and Duncan Johnston is a Scottish Piper. :)

  • Ofer, you have fans here in Texas, USA. This is beautiful!

  • this is so outstanding..
