Stupidity, misguided political crapola. Based on price and electricity generation, losses and performance. Heavy lead or expensive "sophisticated" rare metal batteries are NOT the way to go!!! Of course I highly approve Al Gore to drive and travel in only a ZENN car like this for the rest of his life. He deserves the BEST, like the Nobel Prize.
Did you know that electric motors are 80% energy efficient, versus 20% for gas engines? Did you know that the turbine at a coal fired power plant is 60% efficient? With an average transmission loss of only 6.5% and a charging efficiency of 90%, electric vehicles work out to be twice as energy efficient and thus half as polluting as gasoline powered vehicles.
Does any one know the crash test rating for this car. i would love to have a zero emissions car, but im worried about the safety. i wish they had a 4 seat model and a little more trunk room...
You guys must also realise that this tech is advanced enough to go faster than 40km/H it is the government that prevents it from going any faster as the speed for LSV is regulated. It goes 16km faster in some state of which i can not remember where the LSV limit is 10miles/H more so they jsut modified the limiter chip.
They should make electric motorcycles also, I have seen the popular mechanics motorcycle here on youtube too bad its not legal to be driven on the freeway.
You have to realize that Big Auto makers are doing all they can to postpone the arrival of EVs (Big Oil to sabotage or send people on red herrings like Hydrogen)
Great EVs like the EV1 from the 90s and even better ones will only be available "to everyone" when small companies start selling less-than great EVs and take niche market shares.
Zenn is not for everyone, but the more of the people for whom its good get them, the better it is for the rest of us to get EVs
The i MiEV from Mitsubishi sounds great; 120km/h, 200km/charge, 4 seater normal car(highway) for around 25K$. That would be a great car for my needs and budget, but for other people the Zenn might be just what they need.
The i MiEV will be available in Japan next year but Mitsubishi will probably have hurdles to sell in ni NA, because if its starts to sell in 2010 the other automakers will have to switch to real EVs (instead of PR cars and red herring delay tactics) or loose market.
nice car but lets see how one day on a praire winter and if it can go thru snow. Nice car if you live in locked in senior complex in the tropics or sunbelt. If they could make it work in a winter sttorm and have the guts to push thru snow then I am sold on it. I would like at least triple the power.
Check out the e-ride made in Princeton, MN. A couple of the universities in Minnesota own them including The Golden Gophers.....they actually do well in frigid temperatures. I apologize for my ignorance, but what car was it that you were referring to that handles well in snow (without chains of course)?
Yeah the EV1 was way better, and IDK why no one just tries to do THAT, instead of making these for cities and regulating there speed, the tech is there whats the hold up
What is Canada thinking? What is Canada thinking???? GET ON THE FUCKING BALL!!! THIS COULD MAKE OUR COUNTRY LOTS OF MONEY!!!! THIS COULD CREATE LOTS OF JOBS!!! CANADIAN LEADERS, GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF YOUR FUCKIN ASSES!!!
ICSKLE, at 14000 dollars, it's a pretty enormous fuckin' bargain - especially given the fact that it's 35 cents per charge. Get your mind right, bitch.
YO guys, I think somebody logged on the computer I was on before or something. I don't remember comenting on this clip nor do I remember watching this.
why are electric cars only for the rich? should only the Priviledged classes be allowed freedom of personal travel in the AlGorean future? It doesn't cost $20,000 to put lights, license plate and fiberglass body on a golf cart. I've seen the crappy wiring and primitive controls in stuff like the Zap and the Corbin Sparrow. Unsafe garbage using speed controls and batteries electric lorries in mining shafts and warehouses used decades ago.
where are they i havent seen a 1 not 1

In December, the Company announced a next generation power train for the ZENN
featuring an alternating current (AC) motor. The new power train is expected to
provide increased range, superior hill-climbing ability and operational
versatility. The AC powered ZENN will also offer air conditioning as an option
and will begin shipping in early calendar 2008.

I dig it but it needs to go faster than 40km/hour. City speed limits are 50km/hour around here.
