  • Vegemite taste horrible :( its taste kikkoman

  • I don't know what is vegemite but my mom cooked sth looking almost similar to what you have done. But she used grape molasses and honey and hashish also dried grapes. :D They were super delicious too, i totally recommend it.

  • Vegemite has never been banned in the US. That is an urban legend. It is an acquired taste that has simply never gained popularity here. Difficult for Aussies who have been raised on the stuff to believe I know, but its true. Vegemite is a good source of B Vitamins,

Us Yanks have been raised on peanut butter, which (if you are not allergic, and you buy the good stuff) is actually good for you containing Protein, Vegetable Fat, B & E Vitamins, Dietary Fiber and the anti-oxidant: p-coumaric acid.

  • is vegemite like marmite, because marmite and cheese goes brilliant together :D

  • can we do it with nutella ?

  • @smejri95 not really because the Vegemite is a savory spread while the nutella is a sweet spread

  • i love vegimite its like my peanut butter (even though im in america)

  • foes vegemite taste sweet ?????

  • Omg so much vegemite :D but omg they can not ban it!!! D:

  • @fauxflowerrr it's kinda savoury and salty but you don't spread it thick on stuff or else it tastes disgusting and have with butter or margarine if you want it on toast

  • ill tell you why bakerys charge $3-4 for them, they use dough. Not cheap ass puff pastry straight from the freezer

  • what's vegemite? how does it taste?

  • I have some of your videos on my insta-que and im in Ameria so i was looking to add more and when i seen these i thought they were cinnamon rolls. Haha but great channel like to see your videos and blog too. You should make cinnamon rolls the are fantastic.

  • he was secretly eating from a nuttela jar at the end:P

  • OMG !! They were thinking about banning vegemite a couple years back !? I think I would have died ! I eat vegemite everyday ! LOL !!!

And thanks so much for the recipe ! I gotta try this, looks delish ! =D

  • I was confused and glad to see your comment akerswizard. I know they have it in the States at World Market next to the...ahem....Marmite. But now perhaps I understand why the natural food stores only sell the Marmite. That stuff makes the best vegetarian gravy I've ever eaten.

  • Its not banned over here...my grandmother bought some last week...

  • i made these in school. they were really nice. that is why i looked it up on youtube, coz i wanna make them again, ( i forgot lol) so yah.

  • niko bro

  • My great great grandpa was the guy who wrote Waltzing Matilda!

    Banjo Patterson

  • whats the deal w/aussies thinking peanut butter is discusting, like eating lard. Its not its good, but not to be eaten all the time. Its a kids sand pb&j.

  • G'day Nicko. Would like to get in touch.

  • I love vegemite, I can buy it in the USA and if could not, I would have my Tassie buddies to send it to me.

  • stop at 4:17 :Phahahaha

  • We dont get vegemite here... But marmite is totally the same thing ;)

  • you are soo cute robjnixon!

  • What is Vegemite?? I've heard it tastes like peanut butter?

  • @housemonzter No, it does not taste anything like peanut butter, it tastes like shit. It looks like diarrhea, and it just sucks. Peanut butter is delicious, this is not.

  • @housemonzter nope

  • @housemonzter not at all, vegemite is made from yeast extract. If you live in other commonwealth countries you will recognise 'marmite' as an alternative very similar to vegemite. If you live in the US it is not popular but can be found in supermarkets that stock overseas food :)

Vegemite is used sparingly as it is very high in sodium. Commonly eaten on crackers/biscuits or on toast/bread with toppings such as cheese, tomato or butter. It is a very acquired taste so you have to give it time :)

  • Breaking News: Man throws vegemite at Jullie for baning vegemite LOL

    Nice job

  • i love vegimite scrolls from bakery delight thank you for teaching me mate GO AUSSIE

  • GROSS sorry but i just hate vegimite i do not know why?

  • @theclayzone did you make it though?

  • this may sound terrible but i've done this with vegemite, cheese and peanut butter. absolutely brilliant taste sensation! :P thx for sharing this recipe.

  • wats vegemite?

  • the look like cinnimon buns which are lovely i live in canada so i don't think we have vegemite here but i think those would be good with some raspberry jam in the middle and maybe a cream cheese icing =D!

  • i loooooooove marmite, I eat it on bananas, but i haven't tried veggiemite. (:

  • ur thinking of the english who banned selling marmite in schools cos of the salt content

  • omg i want to try that so bad :)

  • A good substitute to use in the US is apple butter. It's not as savory, but you can spice it with cinnamon for a kick.

  • Can you use marmite?

  • @bmweed yeah it says in the side bar

  • Vegimite <3

lolz imagining watching news and see you chucking vegemite @ Keven Rudd!!

  • does vegemite has those choclatey taste?

  • no... its extremely bitter...

  • they are like liquified beef cubes *eep*

  • we can buy vegemite in the states mate. isnt banned, just hard to find

  • OOOH! my friend made this for me once and i LOVED it.. sooooo good.. and I'm not even a fan of vegemite!

  • what is the difference between marmite and vegemite? apart from the fact that marmite is from nz and vegemite is from aus. i eat marmite cuz they are cheaper in nz but in terms of taste??

  • i like both vegemight is probably more bitter than marmite... but yeah i like them both

  • What is Vegemite? It looks rather unappetizing. What's it made out of?

  • Brewers yeast, its an acquired taste really...

  • After Googling it, I discovered that Vegemite was never banned in the US. Kraft chose not to ship it to US retailers (until the folate thing was taken care of) , which isn't a ban. And people are free to have it shipped, or to bring it in to the US themselves. Also, Vegemite isn't terribly popular here, so it would be more difficult to find. Maybe US residents could try stores (shops) that are known to have a good selection of ethnic foods.

  • I'm sorry, I didn't catch what was in vegemite that caused the US to ban it...and what does Vegemite taste like?

  • marmite for the win

  • its marmite..isnt it?

  • very similar :)

  • @robjnixon

    marmite is better. hehe.

  • @robjnixon would chocolate spread work (if not using cheese)

  • @robjnixon can you show me on a video how to make a strawberry cheese cake my mom would love it me to make her one for her birthday

  • Totally... But, Rove can do it for you on his next ep of Kevin Rudd, P.M! xD

  • Nicko, if you threw Vegemite containers at Parliament house, Kevin Rudd would have a spaz attack!! But do it for the Aussies! Awesome vid!

  • I wouldnt want to mess up Kevin Dudd's hair. That would send him over the top lol

  • i made them, they tasted amazing, then i was bored and made them again but didn't cut them into slices, it was like a big roll. <3 it was awesome.

  • glad you liked them!! :) thanks

  • ew vegemite just looks gross :D but the end segment was way cute!

    "...What?"

  • lol, it looks gross but it is yummo :) lol the end seg was heaps of fun haha

  • What is Vegemite? Lol I'm sooooo sorry for bothering you, but I don't have anyone else to answer the questions... Lol my mom and dad can burn water! A regular home made meal is take out!!!

  • Vegemite is basically the waste product of beer making. It is salty in taste, and it does taste nice. Try it for yourself, just eat it on some toast, thinly spread :) get your mum and dad to watch me lol, cooking isnt hard :)

  • I made some today....so yummy hot out the oven.

  • man you made me hungry lol :) thanks!

  • Hey Gigles,i mean Nicko! just making you vegemite scrolls, you are a f#$cking genious mate, love ya work, spent all day at work being wowed by your cooking brilliance... all the best,go the nicko, youve got my vote pal

  • in england there is a vegemite but we call it marmite and there brand expression is you either love it or you hate it whitch is completly true go go go yeast extract

  • lol so true :)

  • All of my friends that have tried it say Vegemite is disgusting.

Is it really that bad or is it just bad to anyone that isn't around it typically, like Australians?

I look forward to tasting it someday for myself. Hehe :D

  • Vegemite is basically the waste product of beer making. It is salty in taste, and it does taste nice. Try it for yourself, just eat it on some toast, thinly spread :)

  • @Acombs101 its an acquired taste like salty licorice :)

  • Can't wait to try this- my husband loves vegemite.

  • let me know how you go :)

  • who woulda thought that a black substance made fromt he scrapings out of the bottom of beer vatts would be soo popular, and soo good!

  • it still sounds nice when you put it like that :) lol

  • i don't think you could make vegemite sound bad to any Aussie, americans and the like just look at it and are afraid haha

  • ive never really liked Vegemite till now...

  • what is vegimite?

  • Vegemite is a dark brown food paste made from yeast extract, used mainly as a spread on sandwiches. It is made from leftover brewers yeast extract, a by-product of beer manufacturing. It has a very salty taste and its yummo! :)

  • marmit in uk

  • Just a little tip for people here in North America, the banning of Vegemite is a complete rumor, it never happened, you can still buy it although its not the most popular thing and as a result hard to find. The store near me here in Canada has Marmite which I find tastes almost the same and works just fantastic with this dish here.

  • My hubby makes some very similar he calls pizza scrolls which is exactly the same idea as above but with tomato/chilli sauce topped with pepperoni bits and cheese. Turns out delish and might be a bit more mainstream for those that dont like vegemite. Very bad for you though...

  • oh my god i m going to try this

  • They actually banned vegemite in the States? Well, the closest thing i can find to vegemite was marmite at an imports store near where i live in Califonia. I'll go check again.

And yum, that looks pretty good, and the cheese adds to the taste. I'm gonna go ahead and cook it. Thanks, Nico!

  • lol glad you enjoy the channel

  • nutella ones are so yuuuuuuumy

  • I reckon we should fly to Canberra and throw vegimite at parliment house for the hell of it! lol great idea!

  • lol love it!!!! Ruddy here we come!

  • What a bloody ripper.

I'm gona have a go at making them.

  • let me know how you go!

  • Haha, love the ending. Very nice.

  • I just saw Vegemite at World Market this Sunday... so we do have access to it in America.

  • Great!

  • Happy Australia day Nicko! My Jess said to tell you the vegemite cheese scrolls were great. They were a big hit here, I even made a double batch and had some with soup. Keep the recipes coming mate as we are loving them here! :)

  • Omnomnomnom

I am most definately going to make this soon (probably tomorrow) with Marmite (I dont know if we actually have Vegemite, we have different types of Marmite thought, so we might...)

  • mmmmmmm.....but i never had vegemite

  • haha my bad im kinda slow sometimes:P

  • good work mate mine where great

  • great!

  • Now this is definitely easy and something I can manage to whip up.

  • lol the einding is super cute!

  • cheers!

  • I love vegimite, but watching you eat it by the spoonful made me cringe!

  • it takes some practise

  • YAY! I'm a vegemite Kid!

  • They better NOT ban vegemite or I'm with you Nicko we will get a protest group and go to Canberra and have a vegemite fight! I need to keep a rose in my cheeks LOL!

  • lol :)

  • i love the end btw wat were u eating at the end

  • vegemite ;)

  • looks great dude. will try it out. will have to do the peanut butter routine though. damn laws!

  • What kind of cheese did you use?

  • You can always try chocolate spread and walnuts? Anything you like will work here :)

  • Ummmm! Yummy..we will be right over! XXX

  • The titty sisters are always welcome!!

  • we can only get Marmite here... sorry !

  • close enough! will still work

  • i would never thaught pb&j and cheece would make a good combo

  • lol no you just replace the cheese and vegemite for peanut butter and jelly. two for two

  • Haven't tried Vegemite yet - a bit worried after watching all the Vegemite videos about it made by non Aussies that mostly hate it :-D I've seen an internet site that sells Australian items here in the States and they have Vegemite for sale. What is the danger that made it banned in the US? Take care. Adriana

  • The US have a law that folate can only be in breads and cereals. Vegemite contains folate so they banned it.

  • Peanutbutter and jelly with cheese... yukiez

  • lol no darling. Just swap our two with their two. woops for the confusion

  • LOL Love the "Vegemite commercial" hehe

  • cheers

  • Never heard of vegemite... I don't like marmite though, so even if I could get it I don't know I'd like it. The peanut butter and jelly sound a little weird along with cheese... not sure I'd like this one.

  • I assumed that when he said you could do pb&J, it was without the cheese! I think it would be weird with the cheese, like you said! lol

  • spot on! glad you got it lol

  • no chef you just swap my two ingredients for your two. Vegemite & Cheese or Peanut butter & Jelly. Cheese would be very strange your right lol

  • rightio mate. I thought it sounded strange, but I also know people who eat banana and mayonnaise sandwiches, so you never no what strange combinations people might put together.

  • Mate! Absolutely great recipe! But sorry, as a Brit, I just HAVE to use MARMITE! Tastes almost the same! Not quite, but not far off! Thanks for posting - oh, and thanks for letting me use your vids on my website! I'll definitely be using more!

(As for the Americans banning Vegemite - SACRILIGIOUS!)

  • Stick a damp cloth under your cutting board to stop it moving around. (>v@)b

  • my new cutting board is on its way. Just like my old it is non slip but this one is a pain.

  • Marmite will be fine, no probs :)

  • I believe that Vegemite was made to be an Australian competing product to Marmite. However, Vegemite was originally called Parwill (spelling??) with the motto "Marmite but Parwill".

Changed the name to Vegemite later because Parwill did not take off I think.

  • hmmm...yummm yummm mate...lolol

  • cheers Pete! :)

  • wait.. ban Vegemite...

    They Better not!

  • OMFG! I LOVE 'EM!

ARGH!!! *starts to feel more hungry, even though he's not!*
