it would be nice to have it on your desk below a glass but with a little motor that makes the water run without you having to push the button everytime
I think this would have worked better if the pump was battery operated. Having to hand pump the tank was rather unelegant considering the elegance of everything else.
What is technology, but a means of creating new ways to entertain ourselves? We humans are selfish beings by nature; if we were to use technology to help others, that is only because it makes us feel good.
However, I say that this is definitely not wasted technology. It is but the initial stages of something much more interesting. A coating of this "Adesso WR" would completely water-seal an object, and make liquids that run down it move much faster. This could be the newest spaceship coating.
Call me stupid, but I don't see where nanotechnology is being utilized in any significant way here. It's like saying robotics is being used in the old water pump dolphin ring toy I had when I was little. When I think of the immediate use of nanotechnology I thin of the X-files where the guy had the remote control and caused nanites to flood Skinner's bloodstream.
nano technology-ish bit of this will most likely be the surface finish of the basin. The concept of water repelling finish is easy but to make water bead/glide with low mu is not an easy task.
No such thing as waste of technology :), sometimes the technology comes before a good use is found for them. Plus its just applying a coating, doubt its costing them much to make these.
Ahh I see now, they may have edited the description because there was no reason for nano mentioned before, so what do the nano-infused sheets do? Couldn't you achieve this without it?
Further research says that the surface is basically like this probably to reduce friction or add it in the right spots to make more chaotic and quicker motion than normally possible. A slicker surface was demonstrated on another model that made the substance move more freely like mercury. That's the nano-technology. A slicker than normal surface. I wonder how this could be used for other purposes.
makes me think of (the video game) Mercury.

Its actually very amusing and pet fish rock

It uses hydrophobic coating to bounce the water around. it is useful technology.

I understand that...(BUT)...it just seems to be a waste of good nano technology.

In a world where innocent children are dying of senseless starvation...YES, there is such a thing as wasted technology.

It seems they repel the water so its beads up. You could possibly do this by spraying scotchgard on a piece of plastic sheet also.

LOL you are not supposed to see nano cuz it is.. very small

I was saying that there seems to be nothing related to nano-tech in it. It looks like something that has no relation to the word nano at all.
