  • ...Very rare, exactly!!!

Sol Hoopii: Un des parains du Lap'Steel.. Merci beaucoup pour cette vidéo gtut98 ♪♫

  • Sol Hoopii is the shit, this is comming from a big blues fan and yes I'm aware that Albert King was influenced by early Hawaiian music.

  • Finally the reason for the internet to exist

  • @loudandfastisbest nobody is forcing you to use internet :P

  • This is like finding the Holy Grail of Hawaiian steel guitar playing, played by the master of the instrument himself, Sol Hoopii. Incredible playing, the harmonics, the phrasing, the sheer talent, is awesome!

  • Where'd you find this film!?!? Amazing! YEah I agree with the other commenter, this film deserves a better transfer. There's a place called PAC lab here in NYC that does a great job...

  • Superb find! Thanks for sharing it.

  • I wonder how Sol felt about the way the pianist pronounced his name. The piano dude calls him "HOPE-ee." Most haole (mainlanders) pronounce his name "HOO-pee." But I was told by a native speaker that in Hawaiian his name is pronounced "HOO-oo-PEE-ee." Regardless, Sol Hoopii was a great musician!

  • @jmacbops I take it if he was playing an interpretation of Gospel music, that he was Christian. If he was Christian, I doubt he took offense but rather was happy to be praisng the Lord.

  • thanks, this made my year!!!!

  • Great

  • Bob Brozman will have Kittens when he sees this!

  • What a RARE treat!

  • Whtat joy to find this. I have loved Sol Hoopii's steel playing for most of my life and now today I have finally been able to see him in action clearly for a complete performance. My Great thanks goes out to Greg Tutmarc for providing this video. This film should receive a high quality transfer to digital for preservation. I personally would love to have a DVD of this.

  • Rare as heck. Thanks a bunch.

  • Thanks! This video made my day.

  • 3:12 3:24 4:06 and 4:17 are obviously Palm Harmonics, but WHAT are the ones he uses at 5:03 called ? Palm Harmonics using the INDEX finger instead of the thumbpick..

(Click any of the times above to go DIRECTLY to the position.)

  • Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!

  • There is Great Historical signifcance to this..what a joy to discover..! Phil Kerr was the premier pianist in the Gospel genre during the forties..his style and touch has rarely been duplicated..and Sol..classic lap steel, performed by a Hawaiian master

  • thank you !!!

  • thank you!!!!
