With those real small trebles you really dont need to set the hook, they're so sharp and thin that they penetrate with the slightest pressure.....nice job, awesome fish!
Nice release. But did you cut the line? Hopefully it wasn't gut hooked because if so its basically a dead fish. If you can see the hook you should always try and get it out. Even if it takes you an extra minute to do so.
If you watch the video you can see that I use a hemostat to remove both hooks of the small hand tied quick set rig. As the rig came out of the fish's mouth one of the hooks snags some skin and I pop the hook free and it falls to the ice.
I find it funny that you are calling that fish dead, I take great care to handle fish in a very gentle way. I think this video shows how fish become very docile if you handle them correctly.
beautiful fish! thats a nice walleye. good job with being fast and not letting the fish freeze. wish we had more fisherman like you! keep up the good work
these big walleye live in all the big deep clear lakes, so the name of this one isnt really that important.
look for deep transition areas and inside turns near the last deep water before large shallow areas during winter and you will find the lunker walleye.
Was that star lake??
