@darling67 Brian carried the boys untill Pet Sounds, but after that Carl, Mike, Bruce and particuarly Dennis really emerged as brilliant songwriters. Sunflower, Pacific Ocean Blue, Surfs Up, Friends etc, were all real gems and Brian had little to do with them. That aside, In my opinion Brian Wilson contained as much talent as all the Byrds combined! Look at Pet Sounds, or Today or any of those singles. No single Byrd (or Beatle for that matter) could have made an album like that.
Been a Byrds fan for 40 yrs and yours are great posts. Thanks! It's fun listening rough turn into polished. Beatles influence is clearly heard in this one (stepped in vocals) but frankly there's nothing quite like the Byrds sound
Great to see this video on You Tube! If you want to find out the real story about Nirvana, please read my new book "Psychedelic Days," and keep an eye out for my new cd coming out the 13 Dalis.
These outtakes are my favorite Byrds recordings. In my opinion, they were a great guitar band stymied by wishy-washy studio production and singing that wasn't all that good.
I Have enjoyed the music of the Bryds for 40 some years ,and I listen to the sound differently now that I'm older .Gene Clark was a great singer ,and I here Mcguinn and Crosby in the background it's a great experiance
Ahh...Gene Clark on lead vocal!

"Who sings the high part?" Wow, Melcher could be abrupt, couldn't he? No wonder Crosby disliked him.

I think the Tom Petty cover is better. But The Byrds are great. I love their version of my Black pages
sputnikspanyol 2 years ago
Nah. I prefer The Byrds' version.
This is an outtake of "Feel A Whole Lot Better"
before the final take was decided on and then released.

I think The Byrds and the Beach Boys were the best US response to the British invasion ;)
