Oh egads sounds similar to a jello salad we had a FIL funeral wasn't lime though think strawberry but cottage cheese etc. My BIL hates cottage cheese as does my hubs and it was just this huge joke because we had it up the yeehaw and everyone kept pushing it on him. I need to find a really great jello salad receipe though I got years ago. Salad is usually only defined as a cold side dish with vegtable fruits cheeses yada
@cozzyk I have about 3-4 vintage jello books that I have now purchased. I should go through those for you. Barb is also looking for one and I am going through them slowly to find out what she is looking for
@silverscreamgrl I ll look thru my writtenh ones, I think my issues was old lady writing criptic recipe but made it once and everyone loved it when fresh in my mind.
LOL! I'd go with Jello salad. Regardless, it's guaranteed to win lots of praise. I believe that most of the recipes in 'women's' magazines are designed to get you to buy more processed foods. Very few of them are designed for 'scratch' assembly. There's even an entire television program on the Food channel designed to get you to buy processed foods. I am willing to bet my future lottery winnings that those articles (advertisements in disguise) are promoted by the food corporations.
@thizizliz I think that show is Sandra Lee's show, right? Her's is semi home made. I think it's under the guise of helping a busy mom but truly, it only takes a few more minutes to cook from scratch. Yesterday mother "cooked." Frozen meatballs, jarred spaghetti sauce, rolls from a can. Yeah, that was an effort on her part ;)
@silverscreamgrl Yes - that's it. Semi Homemade. Most of the time, it does only take a moment more; especially once you get your confidence up. But good for your mom for trying. Aunt Jean says she's forgotten. The last few times she's tried, she can't eat what she's made. So kudos to your mom - with that level of pain, for her to try is a gift. (Plus it's good for her I'm sure, to get up and do something. Sitting too much will guarantee losing more mobility.)
I think the jello salad is called ambrosia salad? Seems to ring a bell.
I have a jello salad that sounds so gross. It is a tub of cool whip, cottage cheese, a pkg of jello (you just mix the powder right in) and then some fruit. I like pineapple or mandarin oranges. Mix it all together to let the flavors mix and then eat. Sounds disgusting with the cottage cheese in there but I like it and I don't even like cottage cheese lol. We called it summer salad but I have seen it called other things.
Yeah I call it Mom's Jello salad because she made it every holiday when I was a kid. So I make it and it's Mom's salad. And it's soooo good. I did not make it this Easter but now I wish I had! I made a banana split cake! With Splenda! Hahaha
I'm Making Macaroni Salad For Tomorrow & B.B.Q Chicken... My Parents House First ...Than My House With EveryOne! Running Behind I Need to Color Eggs (lol)
It's close to ambrosia. Anyway all a salad is is a mish mash of a bunch of crap mixed together and served in a bowl (plates for those who don't like to conform to the norm). So I guess if I mix peas and pineapple and mangoes with ketchup and tartar sauce with some tuna, we can call that a 'salad'. ;-)
My Momma used to make that salad. She called it Grasshopper salad, I lurv it.:-) It is dang addicting, fo sho. We used to have it for holidays and family get togethers. Why they call it a salad is beyond me. lol. Love those buttons! They so pretty. I know. The price of every dang thing seems to be going through the roof these days.
Hmmm I'm not sure I ever heard of that salad. It sounds really odd for sure. I know I need to get to work too. We're having dinner tomorrow with my friend and hopefully house neighbor Penny. Love the buttons! So adorable! I can't wait to start sewing and crafting AND cooking when we get into the house! I seriously can't wait!

Did I miss #3?
I'm sure back in the fifties it was called "Hawaiian salad" because it had pineapple everything with pineapple seemed to be called that.
I have a whole book of jello "salads" I showed on YT once.
yoyomax12 10 months ago
@yoyomax12 LOL!! You are right-- everything with pineapple in it is Hawaiian :)
I may have misnumbered!
