I mix compliments all the time. If a color has too much 'pop' just mix a little of the compliment with it to tone it down. When you think about the fact that someone who is giving an instructional video doesn't understand this it is sad.

If you mix three compliments you get a much richer black, also extremely useful to the painter... a mixed compliment black is so much more alive than a tube lamp or mars black.

Did I hear her say you DONT want to mix compliments? Because thats how you get more realistic color. The "Mud" she speaks of is called a neutralized color, and is very useful for raising or lowering values and intensities..try mixing a touch of red in your greens and see for yourself what the effect is...Expert village continuously gives poor or misguided advice. This is basic color theory, look it up.
