  • The ending is just spectacular and epitomizes great music.

  • it goes a 1 , 2 , 3, and.......

  • & MISSY ELIOT - WORK IT

  • I find it funny that the people slating Hip-Hop artists for sampling this are also inadvertantly addressing their discrepancies towards the likes of Miles Davis, who also sampled this. Sampling something *effectively* requires more creativity than people are prepared to give credit for. Just think of all of the things out there that could be sampled, and the number of ways you could arrange them into a composition, and it becomes clear that there's a lot more to it than meets the eye.

  • trop bien ce morceau

  • bob james is actually black,or he got a black uncle...lol'''bob1love

  • great song

  • Damn, this may be the most sampled song of all time.

  • @MrMajik2 The most sampled song of all time is probably Fab 5 Freddy feat. Beside - Change le Beat, the sound at the end was used a billion times by DJ's in the early 80's and 90's and it's still widely used. I think.

  • i make beats, sampling make u appreciate the creator...i love bob james now

  • excelente beat

  • Sometimes I hate to come to these threads because there's stupidity on both sides of the arguments that often take place. You've got young idiots who reduce lengthy, classic tunes to "breaks" and you've got others who don't see any merit in hip-hop. As for me, I'm a 30-something musician who grew up on classic hip-hop...AND funk, and jazz-funk like this. A lot of contemporary hip has no originality, but I could say the same about virtual every form of COMMERCIAL music these days.

  • if you had the time you could make one hell of a mix cd with that list

  • @MiamiPush2theLimit Respectfully, I beg to differ. The rappers took this great tune and took it to another level and made Bob James some more money. : D

  • you forgot 'peretual motion - keep on dancin' too. lol

  • run dmc(peter piper and dmx(the orinal dmx) have you seen Davey...along with others..

  • that ice cream truck funk!

  • It's also been sampled in "Unfinished Symphony" by Massive Attack

  • Come to watch a Bob James video, see 99.9% hiphop comments... Sad days!

  • @KingOfSchmucks You sure live up to your name. Jackass!

  • @badblood100575

    I second that notion!

  • @KingOfSchmucks im a huge old school hip hop fan, we all respect these older masterpieces, and it should be that you respect what hip hop has made of them

  • here i thought i just stumbled upon a secret sampling gold mine................

  • bob james is a genius

  • casey veggies- its all good

  • The other Amen Break?

  • Nautilus" and "Take Me to Mardi Gras" have been sampled in thirty-two and forty-three hip-hop recordings

  • GHOSTFACE "FLOWERS" !!!

  • WOWZERZ !!! THANK U.

  • Missy Elliot - Work it ,doesn't seem to be mentioned

  • Tell you what though, having not listened to this in a few years, you can hear how well RunDMC used it, the parts they took. This is a classic, as is 'Peter Piper'.

  • HE IS A GREAT MUSICIAN, WORKED WITH A LOT OF GREATS, HAS A LOT MORE SONGS. I APPRECIATE THAT SOME IN OUR GENERATION RESPECT THAT.

  • ...and used by Perpetual Motion in their hard house tune 'Keep on Dancin (Let's Go)'

  • /watch?v=L3n_zkMdewk

    Used by Jay Dee, DOPE!

  • you can add Sound of Stero - Jack my Trombone to the list.

  • LOL you forgot foxy brown fox bells!

  • Doctor Seuss and Mother Goose both did their thing

but Jam Master’s getting loose and DMC’s the King,

    Adult entertainer, child educator,

Jam Master Jay king of the cross fader,

  • LOL @ the sample list not including Run DMC.

  • @FKRAPCITY Or DJ Grandmaster Flash!

  • @FKRAPCITY I just copied the sample list from a website, I know there's a lot more than this :)

  • @hrcojestup no offense intended mate. i was just always under the impression that was the most popular use of it! peace

  • @hrcojestup you forgot one MASSIVE ATTACK UNFINISHED SYMPATHY

  • @twinsinmindmusic Massive attack didn't sample this. Listen closely, it's a different bell. They got their beats from the song Parade Strut (instrumental) by J.J. Johnson for the soundtrack of Willie Dynamite (1974)

  • @FKRAPCITY

    Indeed Peter Piper!

  • @FKRAPCITY Run DMC IS included. LOL!

  • Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy did NOT sample this, it just sounds a little similar...

  • Song Of The Day.

  • dont sweat the technique

  • massive attack unfinished sypathy

  • SO MUCH FUN TO IMPROV OVER THIS *D

  • Comment removed

  • you forgot massive attack - unfinished sympathy ;)

  • this here is THE justification for sampling, such a damn fine break and such a damn lame tune.

  • Hi mate, i'm adding a track which sampled this:

Grooveyard - Watch me now (also with samples from I'ts just begun by the Jimmy Castor Bunch)

    ;·)

  • Thanks.

  • God, I never heard this song before. It's really tight. It's like it was just made for Grand Master Flash and Made for Hip Hop.

  • so many Old and new school used dis song evn ghostface killah used a part of dis song dis song is jus DOPE!!!!!

  • "....there it is!"

  • wow

  • You got that right about the samplers - prob a few more since you posted this...

And who said Vanilla Boys can't jam? ;^)

  • Missy Elliott - Work It at the end of the song

  • @dorvil233 yeah that was lame....

  • haayy, i know this song.. swear i heard it somewhere before.. ;)

  • @tomp2008 hey laddies beast boys

  • @tomp2008sorry i made a mistake

  • run dmc

  • oh my god...every single melody in this shit was used in another song lmao! Rappers have no originality whatsoever!

  • @MiamiPush2theLimit kind of dude 90% of their succesful songs use samples

  • @MiamiPush2theLimit lol "rappers have no originality." the essence of early hip hop was the ability to sample songs and turn them into something new. sampling is even responsible for creating new styles of electronic based artists like animal collective. to turn 8 mins worth of elevator music into something else is original to me, imho.

  • @purplehaze2250 Great post - I totally agree

  • @barkz01 oh thanks! it just upsets me when people dis the entire hip hop/rap genre based on the mainstream crap they're forcefed when there's so much more that meets the eye.

  • @MiamiPush2theLimit No music is original... Everything has been influenced by something else, whether it was white folk making black music popular or genres fuzing to make new ones. If you are going to discredit hip hop for using samples then you will have to discredit nearly every genre since hip hop's birth because you cannot produce music without samples in one form or another, unless you are solely dealing with live instruments. Do your research...

  • The bell percussion is sampled by Snap in their (what is in a name) track "The Power".

  • awesome

  • why is paul simons take me to the mardi gras a piece of shit and this is classic

  • great list

  • 世界あの店この店

  • It was also sampled by Massive Attack for their amazing song "Unfinished Sympathy."

  • @XanaxHoe69

    What exactly did they sampled?

  • @MatthewYoungProducer the beginning bit with the chimes and drums, you hear it in a lot of old school hip hop songs

  • Now Peter Piper picked peppers and Run rocks rhymes.

  • and people say whitebpoys had nothing to do with hip hop whatever nigga

  • whoever said that is retarded...hip hop isnt about race so whoever said that dont know shit about hip hop.

  • listing the amount of artists that sampled this piece is paramount to listing the amount pussy that ron jeremy has penetrated.

  • Damn yo this song was chopped up like a prize cow at the butcher ha ha lol!

  • Funny. I was just listening to a Grandmaster Flash mixtape from 1979 and I heard Mel rocking over the Perter Piper beat and I said hold up - I did not know that beat was out before Run-DMC! I thought that the beat was simple enough for them to have made it up, but I guess I am really seeing why many artists did not sell well since it was already there. That brough me here. I always wanted to hear the original.

  • @knowledgeiswhatsup isn't it dope! listening to run dmc's peter piper will never b da same dis shit is ILL!!!

  • @chewxxxv: It is is. I had to listen to the whole shit. It is hard to believe it is jazz and from a white guy. He must have been listening to some James Brown when he came up with that! It does make me lose respect for a lot of hip-hop classics when I hear the origianls...

  • Missy Elliott also use the same sample from the beginning for the end of Work It from 2002's CD Under Construction

  • @imthebrother

Actually, you're right but wrong. She sampled the Peter Piper/Run-DMC version. Notice the overdubbed stereo sound of it and the 808 drum beats in place of 'Take Me To The Mardi Gras's normal percussion with Jam-master Jays scratching..

  • This is actually a Paul Simon cover.

  • BOB james is great! must buy. it make me up!

  • hey is this breakbeat also used in snap´s "the power"?

  • @jayweh The breakbeat used in "The Power" is actually Mantronix's "King of the Beats", who sampled "Take Me to the Mardi Gras".

  • man i love this song!!!

  • one of the greatest hip hop breaks ever period

  • @dlrinnovations

    Bob James is a beast!

  • Freshhhhhh!

    suckers

  • Run DMC!

  • I have the whole CD.Bob James "Two" is a pure classic.Alotta good stuff to sample as well just to listen to.

  • the ULTIMATE...not jus' the break in the beginning, but the whole damn thang!!!

  • Real music

  • Thanks so much for putting this on here. I've looked for it for so long and only come up with sampled versions minutes long.
