I hated this game, it sucked so bad. The fighting is very slow paced and the music was crap. The only thing they did right was the graphics and detail. This is by far the best looking DBZ game on the SNES. But compared to its previous games in the series, this one is too slow for my liking.

This game has the best gameplay out of all DBZ games.

I said it once and I say it again:

This game is better than even Street Fighter.

Simpler controls, more beginner-friendly and yet it still kicks ass.

No professional, beginner-crushing bullcrap that Capcom always likes to implement.

(That and continuously disgracing their franchise with shitty, unfitting characters and stories).

DBZ HD is one of the best DBZ games. Hands down!

I'm indifferent. The coolest thing about butouden was that you could fly and launch big ultimate attacks. We've got that in Raging Blast. What I want is a cinematic DBZ game.

And I know it's not the only game, but it's the closest in anime representation. BL and the Budokai series aren't as simulative to DBZ as BT3 and RB. They're more like SF, and that's boring side by side, ground combat. BT3 is worse than RB2 of course, so RB2 is the best DBZ game out yet, in terms of representation and quality. Besides, RB2 is the newest DBZ game anyway.

the animations in this game, how the characters are standing/posing and performing their attacks would even be good for nowadays standards imo.

If they could get rid of the slow speed of the game mainly in the energy waves/balls, add some new feature to the flying aspect (which was kinda crappy) and add a beam struggle or so would make for some super remake.

Super sauce on top of it with 2 or so new chars and ftw xD.

as a "SF-person", i consider it the 2nd best dbz game ever, and i totally hate bandai because with the current technology of the 2 portables like nice sprite resolution, processing power (avoid the lag), and 3D potential (fully realized in the case of PSP) for the stages and blasts sfx, audio capacity (for kageyama vocals) and video capacity for anime FMVs (for a story mode), they could make an amazing sequel

I remember a long time ago, when i was making a game for RPG maker using sprites from this game... it was fucking awesome. The main character had Mystic Gohan's sprite, and would eventually have Goku's sprite. I had made all these original combat animations using the sprites, damn that took a lot of time.

i believe the SNES wouldn't handdle it. just look at these graphics, they're very detailed for SNES, a fast gameplay like SF2Turbo would be too much. Plus the game got a decent speed already (not so decent for DBZ though)

Dont get me wrong, I do understand it. But like with almost all DBZ games, this game was made just for the name of the series. This game lacked in speed by a horrendous amount (as you already pointed out), and while the juggle/combo system is indeed decent, the fighting itself just is a pain in the ass. Its only a recommendable fighter if you're a die-hard DBZ fan.

DragonBall Z Hyper Dimension is an excellent 2D fighting game. Much better fighting engine than Butoden. Also the SA-1 chip really aided in making the characters and graphics look much more how DragonBall Z should look.
