I nice fresh of clean air is nice but as a heavy duty truck fan, reader and driver these new garbage trucks are "not" reliable. These things see the rear end of more "diesel" powered Mack tow trucks than the regular trucks they bought just a few years ago. As a child I remember in the morning waking up to the screaming Detroit Diesel 6-71's from the CCC trucks they once had...best expression of power you could ever hear out of a DSNY vehicle.
What a crock of shit!! I live on First ave near 116, and I cannot believe the overflowing city trash cans on every corner! I've watched the NYSD come by and just empty the can, but leave the overflow for someone else. This is uncalled for! Someone needs to be held responsible, I don't see any sanitation inspectors giving out summons to the store owners or landlords that share these streets and sidewalks. Pay me a salary, and I will clean up the mess that they refuse to pick up!
As a member of the DSNY, and one who is doing a basket route constantly, the reason we wind up leaving most of the debris is because of scheduling. We get what we can but what we leave is left for the mechanical brooms to come by and get, or depending on the area, either our own uniformed mebers to come and pick up, or private cleaners to get. The city keeps cutting our manpower and extending these routes to almost unfinishable lengths.
Sanitation men need to slow down! BXW2 starts their shift at 6 and collect the garbage in my neighborhood in less than 3 hrs! Before when the trucks were smaller like the 25AT it took them 6-7 hrs Slow down don't ruin the job
What a bunch of bullshit DSNY a lazy bunch of fat ass city maggots ...
