Killing for plain fun and the trophy? Most likely, however he's probably throwing a couple grand for that, which goes back into the wildlife reserve. Protected areas to areas w/ controlled hunting, you'll see that the ones which do allow hunting has little to almost no poaching (Poaching is the REAL PROBLEM)...food for thought.

@tobi25586 That's Germany. Even a great shot doesn't necessarily take down a powerful animal. Sometimes you'll need more. A perfect arrow hit "can" kill an elephant just nearly the same as a gun would. The $ is absolutely invested back into the park, the Gov. gets some, the people who help maintain the park and it gets circulated back into the wildlife. Hunters are conservationist, some people just lack the foresight to see that (Not directed at you btw).

To be honest, I don't have a problem with hunting in this way. My only gripe is that I would hope that they properly choose a trophy male Lion. The reason that killing a Lion whom is defending a pride will ultimately cripple that entire pride. Selective hunts on old lions and prime lions whom don't have a pride is fine.
Being a Whitetail hunter in the US, I am for hunting when its properly managed. Every good hunter wants a strong flourishing wildlife, this isn't just mindless killing.

Killing for plain fun and the trophy? Most likely, however he's probably throwing a couple grand for that, which goes back into the wildlife reserve. Protected areas to areas w/ controlled hunting, you'll see that the ones which do allow hunting has little to almost no poaching (Poaching is the REAL PROBLEM)...food for thought.

@tobi25586 That's Germany. Even a great shot doesn't necessarily take down a powerful animal. Sometimes you'll need more. A perfect arrow hit "can" kill an elephant just nearly the same as a gun would. The $ is absolutely invested back into the park, the Gov. gets some, the people who help maintain the park and it gets circulated back into the wildlife. Hunters are conservationist, some people just lack the foresight to see that (Not directed at you btw).

@TrueSephiros an arrow has power but if you just think of what happens when a bullet hits organs compared to an arrow it is obvious the bullet destroys much more tissue, often leaves an exit wound and causes a collapse of the nervous system + lungs if it hits the chest... many hunters are conservationist and there are also some who just dont give a fuck, the problem is the acceptance of hunting in society when they see "big shots" hunting for trophies doesnt look too good

To be honest, I don't have a problem with hunting in this way. My only gripe is that I would hope that they properly choose a trophy male Lion. The reason that killing a Lion whom is defending a pride will ultimately cripple that entire pride. Selective hunts on old lions and prime lions whom don't have a pride is fine.
Being a Whitetail hunter in the US, I am for hunting when its properly managed. Every good hunter wants a strong flourishing wildlife, this isn't just mindless killing.

They were hunted because people (who were not hunters) would pay crazy amounts of money for them. Your putting your average hunter who MIGHT take one in his lifetime, to a poacher who would take as many as possible to SELL parts of the carcass. Hunting protects species. People that offer thousands of dollars for parts of an animal do not.
