Lithium batteries age by calendar-years at least as much as they age by charge cycles. That is, when they get old, they're old, whether or not they've been used much during that time.

A few thousand cycles, from 5000 to 8000 or more depending on how you treat them and who you ask.

Where did you get such an idea? Lithium batteries DO have some calendar life diminishment in capacity. It is nowhere in the same order of magnitude with charge cycles. Comparing one to the other is absurd.

I was thinking of converting my VW Bug. I have a source for LiOn laptop batteries but don't know how to make a charger. Any ideas? There would be about 100 of them..

I did Randy. You seem fixated on this. I converted the car. I have an assistant, who works for me otherwise and was certainlyhelpful. But we didn't have the care converted elsewhere. I did all the design, parts selection, installation, etc.

The point is anyone can do it. I have no mechanical skills or automotive experience. I am an electronics engineer which is helpful but not mandatory. Anyone can do this.
