If you were born in 1930, then in 1945 if you survived the war, you probably would not have had a record player or be able to afford to buy records. You probably knew someone in your town who had one but you would have had to walk miles to their house. You could listen to records on the juke box in the local milk parlour and you would not have been able to travel and pay the cost of getting into a performance by your favourite artists. No ipods, no TV, no pop on the radio.
