I read that book years ago and vaguely remember a few chapters of it, eventhough I have a basic understanding of the book and I think Roger refers to Pigs as the rich politicians who control the dogs who are the law enforcemet personnel who are in charge of controlling the sheep who are the everyday average Joe and make sure he follows the rules set forth by the pigs and enforced by the dogs; correct me if I'm wrong,and what about the title song "Pigs on the Wing" What wing is he talking about?

Waters criticizes capitalism and political leaders on "Animals" (Waters is a socialist), while Animal Farm criticizes the opposite, that being Communism and especially Stalin. Pigs = leaders and politicians, Dogs = businessmen and ruthless servants of the money (in Animal Farm the dogs were the law enforcement), Sheep = common masses without free thought.

Pigs on the Wing 1&2 are love songs written by Waters to his then-wife.

Dogs is my favourite song by PF.

Waters had a socialistic dream that all wars would end, just look at The Final Cut and Animals, which are highly critical of Thatcher and rightist Democratic leaders. There's much proof that Waters is a leftist.

Waters has stated in many interviews that POTW were love songs for his wife. "Pigs on the Wing" was an expression used by british pilots during WWII and refers to enemy fighters in a plane blindspot.

Sheep are led by a shepherd (God), who later eats them. Open for interpretation.

"Pigs On The Wing" always made me wonder, as well. Maybe Roger was feeling some liberal guilt about making millions after "Dark Side Of The Moon" and "Wish You Were Here".

eh i dunno i think the cd was all about the book "Animal Farm" which was a direct allegory to stalinist russia. if your read the book Napoleon being stalin. snowball being trosky who escaped to mexico (or in the book another farm) Now i dont know exactly what the acual lyrics are supposed to mean but im not sure if its nessesarly socialist but like hammer said its up for interpretation

Dogs, Pigs & Sheep represent the social strata.

Dogs are the "enforcers", protecting the Pig's interests. (Police protecting the property and interests of the "Pigs"- the ruling class.)

"Dogs" also serve the function of keeping the "Sheep" in line.

Indeed, GoodDoctor- I find myself in complete agreement with your assessment of the album, particularly your contention that it is undervalued. Aside from Roger's impressive lyrical structures, I enjoy this album especially for it's incredible instrumental textures from Dave & Rick. This album is loaded with great guitar and keyboard work- I can't recommend it enough.

Close your eyes and think back. Do you know where you were when you first herd a floyd song? This was the fist Floyd song I'd ever herd. It was through my brothers closed door. I whent in the next day and stole the album. That was 30 years ago. It is still one of my favorite Floyd albums.
