  • you can push start em with 4 blokes all pushing on the tyres, they take hardly any momentum to start

  • is it an after market turbo charger ?

  • No.

  • @Dosalt dont be silly :(

  • MrRighttoffit, you are correct - the MK is multifuel.

The MJ and MF are 330 diesel and 300 petrol, hardly surprising no-ones heard of the MF!

The fuels used are diesel or aviation fuel, petrol cannot be used.

The fuel pump is a large 24v chassis mounted pump delivering the fuel at 25psi - this allows for the engine to be started without bleeding the system if the fuel has been allowed to run out.

23vin850 - I had to use my landy to rescue an MK once - there only great failing is no difflocks ;]

  • multi fuel is i guess just like all old of even new diesel engines, were as a "true" multi fuel engine would be described as a TVO engine:)

  • Correct me if Im wrong, but i spent several years trying to find the right bedford for an overland trip. I was lead to beleve that it is only the MK s that have the multifuel engine and pumps. On the side of the pump which is a cav in line pump you can select either fuel by using the lever. the MJ is no where near as reliable due to more things to go wrong eg turbo, power stearing allthogh they are easyer to drive but if you want a bombproff vehicel go for the earler MK

  • is it a perkins engine?

  • been working on one this week changed cab with owner easy work just got abit to do next week and on the road again

  • Ok, Thankyou. I drove Bedford MKs years ago and thought they had electric lift pumps on the chassis beside the tank. The MK I believe had the same engine as the MJ but was not turbocharged. 80 or 90 kmh max speed downhill on the road but awesome off road. Never got one stuck unlike the Land rover.........heh heh.

  • How would the truck run without electrics?. The fuel lift pump needs power to send fuel from the tank to the mechanical fuel injection pump. Syphon maybe?.

  • The fuel lift pump is mechanically operated on the engnie. It does not need an electric supply.

  • By multifuel I thought it meant petrol or diesel!

I was trying to work out how petrol could work without detonation in a diesel type engine.

Most old diesels will run on any old oil, gardners say to pour filtered old engine oil into fuel tank!

The kerosine is the worst as it doesnt lubricate like diesel, I guess injector pump has a sump of its own?

  • One should run this vehicle on Diesel,/Heavy Oil/Derv. Petrol would be a last resort in an emergency!

  • would it run on petrol?!

or just clank and knock a lot?

Ive seen big multi fuel engines that can run on gas or diesel, they have spark plugs and injectors on some on others they always use diesel for ignition with gas or petrol being used as main fuel via a carburettor!

Some old diesels even had a carb to start on petrol then run on diesel when hot!

    Wierd eh?

  • Yes it would run on petrol, but it would not be good for it! It would certainly knock!

  • most diesels only need electricity for the on off solonoid not for the lift pump, some only use injection pump with built in lift pump!

This will have shut off lever.

  • good video and info,, simple explanations of things.

  • You are welcome. I appreciate your comment.

  • Why can all videos not be as informative as this? I knew everything that he said beforehand, but that is not to say that everybody does.
