  • Do you still have this guitar? I have one, and I'm too new at electric guitar to know what the coil taps are. Which position on the rocker switch(es) is on?

  • old strings are fine, you just need to keep your guitar in the case. keeping guitars hanging on the wall or in a stand is ok for showing off your toys, but the strings get crappy quickly.

  • I've still got one of these but the neck's totally buggered - it somehow warped and now has a big bend in it from the fifth fret up to the headstock. Real shame, because I love the damn thing to bits, but it's not worth shelling out the money for a new neck (if they even have parts for it anywhere) or even to get t straightened which, they informed me, might not work anyway. :(

  • I wish they still sold this model. It's much more attractive than the new White Stripe-esque models.

  • Im going to buy this guitar soon thank u for the video review

  • Good review

  • my step dad got his around 2003 its off white w/ rosewood fretboard, recently a wire came unsoldered from the input jack, i haven't gotten around to fixing it yet but its a sweet guitar!

  • people dont like line 6 because they digitize whats meant to be a tube.

  • I bought one of these a few years ago for its versatility with the switching. Was very good for gigging. Only complaint was the tuners are a bit jerky.

Great looking, great sounding guitar for the price.

  • I love this guitar to bits! I replaced the pickups with some from Bare Knuckle and changed the tuners for some locking ones (as the originals had become a bit loose and it wasn't staying in tune). I play through a Marshall DSL with bollocks-all overdrive and it sounds sweet as.

It is such a pleasure to play as well, and given how pretty it is (I've got the deep red one) it was a bargain.

  • I got this guitar for like 125$ at a used guitar shop, actually it was my first guitar. I wonder how much i could get for it.

  • One question are the tuning machines house in like a box casing? Now for a comment thank you for reviewing this guitar it is so cool and needs some recognition.

  • i want one but i cant find it anywhere, this is bullshit.

  • this is an awesome guitar. i have been playing for 7 years. i got one of these from a pawn shop in perfect condition for 80 bucks. it has a nice warm sound to it when played through a tube amp, and you can get some pretty nasty sounds of it. i love it and recomend it to anyone, if your a new player or even if you have been playing for 20 years and just want a cool guitar to mess around with.

  • i got one for 150

  • I was in love with this guitar, just from seeing it, this review has shown that it's definately a good guitar beyond the looks and I'm now considering buying it, I don't know if I should thank you, considering that I'll be down about £150-200 :D

  • why is line 6 bad?

  • it's necessarily "bad" per say. it's a pretty good modeling amp, and i still use mine. however, it's sound quality is no where near that of a good tube amp, so people get pissy if you use a line 6 amp in order to review something because they feel that you can't hear it as well, which is partly true

  • @boredmanaic i am one of those ppl

  • @pacheks because every guitar sounds the same in a line 6 therefore whats the difference between this guitar a strat?

  • but good vid

  • line 6 sucks

  • great review. i think you've talked me into buying one. lol. im actually probably going to buy a jtk3 though. What do you think I should get?

  • thanks! well, the new jet kings are pretty awesome as well. I don't know, it depends on what you want because the newer models don't have coil taps, and some of them use single coils rather than humbuckers. I'm pretty sure that the newer models are made out of mahogany instead of basswood, so they are also going to have a darker sound. I dont think you can make a bad choice with either instrument, though.

  • thanks man.

  • @boredmanaic why didn't you like the clear coat may I ask?

  • @zWhu5tiFFIE it's just REALLY thick. Granted, after a couple more years of use, I see why they used it because basswood is really fregin' soft. IE, you drop it in anyway, and you have a dent. But yea, the thick clear coat just makes it feel cheap, but I guess I'd rather have that then a guitar split in half.

  • @boredmanaic ok thanks, I wire wooled (0000grade) down my satin finish on my guitar but went too far on a tiny bit which left a mark (I can see the wood now):@

So I'm gonna either spray or place a sticker of that area and clear coat it to give it a glossy factory finish look :)

  • @zWhu5tiFFIE nice! good luck with that!

  • @boredmanaic THANKS MAN!

  • Man...some of you guys are straight up assholes. He's is just giving a review on the guitar and it's features, which I thought was helpful. For all we know, he could be fucking sick at the guitar.

  • shut the fuck up

  • Don't forget that the "stock" pickups on this guitar (Super 58's) are also offered on several of the high end Ibanez guitars.... I think the Pat Metheny model as well as the John Scofield model... I think they have been offered on the George Benson models as well. Don't be too quick to dismiss these pickups..... Thanks for the demo! If you get a chance, can you demo the guitar through a tube amp?

  • thanks for the comment! I actually plan on doing that over the summer, or maybe the next couple of weeks. it all depends on my college work schedule.

You're right, the stock pick-ups were pretty solid; however, to be honest, they are no where near the seymour duncans (a Model '59 and a Custom 5) that i used to replace them. That being said, when I paid $180 for the thing, you really could not have asked for more.

  • Hey, I picked one of these guitars up for $200.00 "new" at a music store. I found the neck to be so sweet and the sound switching capabilities awesome. I teach guitar and I've got this "shred kid" who comes in and shreds ot beat the band on it. I noticed that Ibanez changed the bridge pickup on these to something different in the last couple of years. More output or something. All in all, these are great guitars for the price. Probably the best value of any new guitar I have bought. More vids?

  • lol that's the same deal i got on mine. yea, these guitars are freaking solid. great to mod because they give you a great neck/body to work with.

yea, i should be doing a video within the coming weeks of my completely modded JTK1, college has made it hard to stay consistent, though.

  • i didn't get this one, are these humbuckers or singlecoils?

  • they are humbuckers, but they have what are called coil-taps (the little switches) that allow you to put them into a sort of "single-coil mode." As in, it changes the output to make them sound kore like single coils

  • Hey I was wondering if you could sell your guitar to me. What are you doing with all that equipment when you suck that much?

  • lol the point of this review was to do just that: review a piece of gear. In this particular case, I reviewed this guitar because it is a fairly popular model amongst some groups, and yet I couldn't find any satisfactory demonstrations of it online. Therefore, i made this movie with the intention of showing the individual features of the guitar, and not my playing ability, which, by the way, I am quite pleased with at the moment.

  • Wow, that is a really nice looking guitar design. Looks like a Reverend or Eastwood or something unique and classy like that.

  • it's pretty nifty. i would personally prefer either a solid color or a sunburst, but i really can't complain since i got the thing for $180. I'm getting the bridge pick-up replaced sometime in the near future, so this thing will be pretty smoking

  • coolio i found this guitar on thomann but in blue. i'm getting it soon :D

  • pretty cool guitar man

line 6 sucks just kidding no but they do suck. Tube is where it's at!

  • Thanks for doing the review. I'm considering either this guitar or an Ibanez ARX320. Both sound good. The semi-Bigsby vibrato on the newer Jet King is grabbing me, though.

  • np! yea, that thing is pretty nifty!

  • Blues junior amp pick one the fuck up

  • or fender hot rod deluxe (my new amp)

  • yeah I like maple over mahogany for electric and solid cedar for acoustic.

great video, keep smiling and styling

  • thanks!

  • how does a guitar made of basswood sound like?

  • not to sound like a jerk, but this video is of a guitar made of basswood...it sounds generally like the jetking. i little more natural twang to it than a guitar made out of alder.

  • a good beginner's guitar.

  • That's the one i have!

  • this is a great guitar...very very good...would sound better with a vox amp

  • or a fender hot rod deluxe XD. but yes, i agree lol unfortunately, vox tube amps are a weeee bit outa my price range.

  • play ijust dot nkow hwts to do withmlf.

  • can it attain the prog. sound of tool?

  • i don't know what your asking...

  • the progressive sound of the alternative band, Tool. probably not with this guitar dude, and i think their sound is probably dependant on the amplification or FX that they use.

  • yeah dunno about that dude, what about ESP guitars, they're a bit more heavy in sound if you want that Tool sound with 'em great amps.

The Jet King is pretty good for blues, alternative, progressive rock ala Mars Volta (Omar has a signature Jet King), and many other genres. Also depends on ones amp!

  • Best sound for Tool is a guitar with SD alnico pro IIs

Thats not what Adam Jones uses, but he's pretty secretive about his gear and they're the most "Tool-ish" sounding I've heard.

  • adam's got sd jb/jazz pickups in his les pauls.

  • you'd need a thick sounding guitar (like a Les Paul) with a seymour duncan JB/jazz pickup set. you'd also need a bevy of thousand dollar amps, but the guitar's a good start.

  • Beautiful, do you know if they sell them?

  • well, you can still find this model on ebay and in pawn shops sometimes, but they are kinda hard to find. However, ibanez has released several subsequent models which are easier to find. they just don't come in this color anymore

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

Yeah, ive seen the newer versions, but i DEFINITELY prefer these JTK1's.

  • np! yea, if you want to try to grab one, keep your eye on ebay, they've had some pretty nice looking ones go through

  • StanleyTheShark- There's a newer model, called the JTK4, on the market. It's $50 more, but it comes with a whammy bar...

  • sweet

  • Really nice video. if had not been forget over drive sound, it was a perfect review.

anyway, i am looking forward to the review of your new seymour duncan pickup.

  • That's a nice looking guitar and the review was pretty good, too!

  • gracias!
