Pfizer has announced that it plans to close down its lab in New London. As of now, all of the homes on the seized property have been demolished, but the contractor that was tasked with the development has failed to secure financing and has bailed on the project.
The only thing that has been accomplished is that these homes have been torn down. Nothing will be built in their place.
The police today are nothing but enforcement for an unconstitutional, tyrannical, satanic, beast system government. If Godly men EVER regain control of this country again, politicians, judges and zog cops that have passed and enforced unconstitutional laws will be tried for treason. What used to be the penalty for those in power that committed treason? Just following orders or just doing their jobs didn't keep the nazis from getting hung and it should them.
@VolunteerRifleman It's not the ownership of firearms alone that helps protect against tyranny... I'd say collective action is probably equally if not more important. Lone gunmen only get themselves demonized and killed.
The green-shirted plain clothes police officer pictured near the end of this video,William R. Edwards Sr., has been charged with sexual assault on a 12-year old boy, unlawful restraint, tampering with witnesses and endangering a minor. He has been suspended from the New London police force. He is free on bail.
Yeah, and some people are using that (as well as the case of a teacher who smoked crack) as an excuse to try and push random drug testing - of anyone... crazy.
Lauren Canario is a hero! She stands up for what is right. The government is not on the side of the people, but Lauren is. They arrest her, but they can't stop her. No one can. Lauren stands for real freedom. We the people, support her. Go Lauren! I wish more people were like you! Your friend, George Vreeland Hill
Property, Fifth Amendment, Due Process, Eminent Domain, Public Use
In 1998, the small town of New London, Connecticut saw a dramatic turnaround in its economic fate when pharmaceutical giant Pfizer announced its development of a waterfront global research facility in the city's Fort Trumbull area. New London created a development corporation to revitalize the area around the new facility, and granted this entity the power of eminent domain...
This power has long enabled governments to condemn--essentially take--private property for "public use," so long as they conform to due process and provide just compensation.
In this case, the development corporation filed condemnation proceedings against the petitioners in an attempt to condemn their homes--some of which had been in their families for over a century...
This power has long enabled governments to condemn--essentially take--private property for "public use," so long as they conform to due process and provide just compensation.
This property was to be used to create an office park, a parking lot, and a new park. This case tests the limits of the government's power to take private property for "public use" under the Fifth Amendment of the United States Constitution in circumstances when the "use" is largely commercial.
Now I see why so many sheeple think it's so necessary have so much of it beyond it's sole singular purpose of being delegated the agency of preventing just THIS KIND OF FREAKING THEFT!
The Austrians at mises dot org have a pretty good handle on just how rockin America could be w/a truly limited govt that kept it's place.

there must be more to this story.... the government can confiscate land if it needs to build a highway, for example, and if the benefit to the community outweighs that of those to be relocated. They are paid for their property. I doubt very much that these people were told that their deed of trust was invalid and they own nothing and are owed nothing. It is sad for those who lose their home. What are they putting there instead? Something to benefit the whole community?
Here is a cnn clip about it being for private corporation tat lobby local governments. This is the new America. Stop trusting your government. Our forefathers said the highest form of patriotism is questioning our government.
What does it matter why they confiscated someones home. ITS NOT THIERS TO TAKE!!! There is no such thing as private property rights if they can be violeted for ANY reason.

Well said, thorsmitersaw -- have you read Marc Stevens "Adventures in Legal Land"? Or Lysander Spooner's writings from the mid-1850s? There is no state -- it's a myth, a public relations scheme, to control the masses.
Also Youtube: Stefan Molyneux (user "stefbot") has tons of good stuff.
Those of us who sat at home and watched this happen via the evening news should be ashamed that we didn't pack up to go sit on those porches. Isn't the 2nd amendment supposed to be a defense against this clear abuse of government power?
Someone should ask these cops how it feels to know you're a jerk whose job it is to kidnap people and steal their property. Someone should ask them how it feels to know every day that you made the world just a little bit less free. Someone should ask them how it feels to be a tyrant.
We all know what they'd say: "just doin' our job." The Nuremburg Defense all the way.
I'm surprised they didn't whine about being on camera like they usually do.
Shipple thanks for the response to all those questions.... This situation doesn't seem fair! I could see it if was a freeway project or a new library or a city park or something that everybody(the public) uses. But for a shopping mall or condos for some private company making profit just doesn't seem right....Heaven help us if Wal-Mart wants to get into the eminent domain business...
Always remember: whenever something is made illegal, there is ALWAYS a black market. "Corruption" is just the "black market" for government power. Whenever gov't has power, there will ALWAYS be corruption, no matter what you do. The only way to get rid of it is to reduce gov't power.
Every time gov't wants to do something good, it always needs more power; it always leads to corruption.
This video is just the latest example: cops for hire.
What happened to this lady? Did she serve time in jail? What was she arrested for?
What happened to her house? How can a city turn over eminent domain rights to a private corp? Is that legal? How can a private corp purchase the services of the city police? That CAN'T be legal...or maybe it is? If it is the police are nothing more than private rent-a-cop mercenary thugs for big business, .
Not sure, but I know she was charged with "resisting arrest" b/c she let her body go limp
"What was she arrested for?" --
Making the cops go through the trouble of actually removing her before they stole her home
"What happened to her house?" --
Stolen...but since the gov't did it, they have magical paper on which they write laws so it's not called "stealing"...only when people w/o badges do it...then it's stealing.
" How can a private corp purchase the services of the city police? That CAN'T be legal" -
The Supreme Court, in the unconstitutional Kelo v. New London decision decided that it was ok to take land for private use (see Amendment 5; it clearly says land may ONLY be taken for public use),. Cities routinely redistribute stolen land to businesses now.
If you want to change things, check out -- FreeStateProject*org -- Many of the people who filmed this are members in this project.
our police officers would be fired if they refused to invade properties for the city manager. a citizen board is to protect their integrity except that this board is now chosen by -the citymanager- illegally. so they do not protect our police force for us any more. government police state now.
I'll ignore all the superfluous in your diatribe to concentrate on the essential. WE AGREE that robbery is not excused if systematic and accompanied by paperwork (I said as much below); my point is that at least with paperwork etc there is the CHANCE of some oversite. There would be no such chance in a dictatorship . YOUR POINT seems to be that ALL expropriation by the state is wrong/dictatorial etc. This is a valid position though not one I agree with (sometimes expropriation is justifiable).
My only real puzzlement now is why it takes you such a lot of verbage and personal attack to get that point out. You ought to lay off the pot, Charley, - tends to fuck up organizing thought.
oh come on, Charley! I agree the 'sic' was lame, but that doesn't make it inaccurate: 'gov't booklick' is an adjectival phrase modifying 'pussy,' therefore it should be gov't bootlicking' - hence the 'sic' IS accurate (if, as I've acknowledged, lame). As to running from the issue, my main initial comments (see below) were that (con't)
(con't) . . .the police demonstrated no open abuse of Lauren Canario in arresting here, and that the doctrine of eminent domain is undoubtedly pursued by state authorities by recourse to substantial writs, notices etc. Forcing of the state forces (the POlice) to follow a given procedure doesn't necessarily make the expropriation right, but it does present a degree of protection, or at least the potential for protection, that would be (con't) . . .
(con't) woefully lacking if such expropriation were to have taken place in a dictatorship (say in Charlylandia). Your response was soon there after an ad hominem attack on me as opposed to a counter-position to my point.
That's me in a nutshell, pal: Gov't bootlick [sic] pussy having had too much to drink. How DID you know? Like the image of "flinging non sequitur[s]," as in "Driver struck by non sequitur. Charley Dictator, anti-coercionist, charged under Highway Traffic Act for flinging non-sequiturs in a residential area. Jackboot state agents ("dumbass swillers of state force") ticketed Charley while police cars blared in-tandem versions of "my country 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty. . ."
Thank you for your kind comments, Charley, Glorious Leader and Supreme Commander of the Anarchic State of Charleylandia. I presume you've a photo of Kim Jung Il above your bed! Liberty only really works when guided by relatively consist internal moral or ethical guidelines (internal is the key), otherwise it just becomes licence. From all you've said, dear Glorious Leader of one, your greatest desire is licence not liberty. Take care, now.
rogervyon, examine your terms: you said "Anarchic State of Charleylandia". Anarchism is without-arch, without-rulers. There can be no "state" without rulers. Anarchy is recognizing there is no legitimate "state", it's impossible. Read Adventures In Legal Land, and Lysander Spooner's writing, and watch the Flash video "Philosophy of Liberty".
Hey, Charley, so, like what kind of state structure would you like to live under if not a democracy? Though my question implies that you actually can think beyond a superficial rage at things- which is questionable since you both seem to dislike democracy yet seem to rail against the police as "dumbass swillers of state force"? hmmm, sounds like the only satisfactory solution is Charley for dictator! Whatdaya so, ol' boy? Wanna call all the shots yourself?
we have writs and procedures precisely because we live in a democracy. In a dictatorship, you would need a whole lot less. . . . the fiet of power being sufficient. The founding fathers of America presumed that a democracy could only be maintained if its citizens were educated. Clearly on this premise, you are a detriment to democracy.
Who knows the background of this case? I do not see the woman resisting arrest - at least not to the threshold of her being charged with such. At the same time, I see no abuse of power or authority on the part of the police. Undoubtedly, a whole history of writs and procedures were the preamble to the arrest. I'M NOT SAYING the expropriation was 'right' or even legal, I'm only saying I saw nothing in this video that suggested police abuse.
the taking of private property is against what your founding father have writen in bill of rights so she didnt break the law. She chould get medal for what she doing standing up.
First off, she wasnt tresspassing, she was on property that was STOLEN BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR SOME CHEAP ASS CORPORATION THAT COULDNT PAY JUST COMPENSATION!
I would imagine that carrying around those fat guts would hurt their backs more than picking up little Lauren. Lay off the doughnuts and arrest real criminals. She is making a statement and does not need to be held in a prison cell for doing so. It is a waste of TAX Dollars and her life. It is not as plain and simple as breaking the law.
It comes down to: Does this law make sense? I don't think it does. The Crime does not fit the punishment. THAT is plain and simple.
My thoughts and prays go out to Lauren and her family in there time of need...
I can't wait till I am over here and can help you with citizen journalism...
in the mean time GIVE THEM HELL lauren do what you do best - don't sign anything, don't say a word, don't move. I hope you give all of the police force back problems.
Um... do you know what you are talking about??? She was TRESPASSING. So if someone comes onto your private property, you'll let them chill out on the porch so long as they don't bother you? I don't care if it was abandoned, it's still illegal to tresspass. Period. You cannot argue.
It was "trespassing" only because that property was seized via eminent domain. She was trying to PROTECT the property from seizure/confiscation/theft by the government.
Yes, you can. Those houses were taken from private property owners who did not want to sell because the government knew the new owners would make more tax revenue with the development. You are a fool if you don't see the government disrespects private property, and this woman is a brave soul giving of herself to the end of supporting private property rights
They could have been much more gentle by leaving her alone. She is sitting on an abandoned porch reading a book. Yeah, sounds like a crime to me! Plain and simple hey, well wait until some cop decides what you are doing is breaking the law. If there is no victim, there is no crime!
Ummmm... They were as gentle as they could be with that woman. Doesn't matter if she was "not hurting anyone"... She was breaking the law. Plain and simple.
Ever heard of an unjust law? What right does the government have to decide that they can take private property from people without their consent? That is called a violation of the 4th Amendment. What she did is courageous.
I think that video speaks for itself. More info at nhfree dot com Please don't sit back and let this happen again, because if you do, you might be next.

First off, she wasnt tresspassing, she was on property that was STOLEN BY THE GOVERNMENT FOR SOME CHEAP ASS CORPORATION THAT COULDNT PAY JUST COMPENSATION!
PatriotAr15 5 years ago 2
If she wants to fight it in court, fine. But YOU DO NOT RESIST ARREST! Respect the police.
irishdictator 5 years ago
I didn't see her resist a thing. I will admit she did not assist in her arrest.
secretsaregood 5 years ago 2
Of course you need to resist arrest. How else will you be able to declare for the court that you didn't give up your rights?

Why respect men who drag off a woman who has hurt noone?

I would imagine that carrying around those fat guts would hurt their backs more than picking up little Lauren. Lay off the doughnuts and arrest real criminals. She is making a statement and does not need to be held in a prison cell for doing so. It is a waste of TAX Dollars and her life. It is not as plain and simple as breaking the law.
It comes down to: Does this law make sense? I don't think it does. The Crime does not fit the punishment. THAT is plain and simple.

Government property is not private property...

We live in a fascist police state owned by the wealthy and the corporations. It is only getting worse.

Tresspassing on government property is illegal but not immoral. Lauren did nothing wrong. The police did.
She is still in prison. Please write to her and hassle the crooks in New London.
russellkanning 5 years ago 2
Um... do you know what you are talking about??? She was TRESPASSING. So if someone comes onto your private property, you'll let them chill out on the porch so long as they don't bother you? I don't care if it was abandoned, it's still illegal to tresspass. Period. You cannot argue.
bnl771 5 years ago
It was "trespassing" only because that property was seized via eminent domain. She was trying to PROTECT the property from seizure/confiscation/theft by the government.
LibertyIsNotGiven 5 years ago
Yes, you can. Those houses were taken from private property owners who did not want to sell because the government knew the new owners would make more tax revenue with the development. You are a fool if you don't see the government disrespects private property, and this woman is a brave soul giving of herself to the end of supporting private property rights
FerretMIke 5 years ago
They could have been much more gentle by leaving her alone. She is sitting on an abandoned porch reading a book. Yeah, sounds like a crime to me! Plain and simple hey, well wait until some cop decides what you are doing is breaking the law. If there is no victim, there is no crime!
revmar 5 years ago
Ummmm... They were as gentle as they could be with that woman. Doesn't matter if she was "not hurting anyone"... She was breaking the law. Plain and simple.
bnl771 5 years ago
Ever heard of an unjust law? What right does the government have to decide that they can take private property from people without their consent? That is called a violation of the 4th Amendment. What she did is courageous.

It is sad to see them treat a friend that way. Lauren was not hurting anyone and was not in anyone's way.
Please call the city of New London, CT and ask for them to free Lauren Canario. She has been in there since Friday 9/22/06.
