I know that, thats because BMW engines are sporty, but the reason to the others sometimes won, was that they had less power loss in their transmission, especially the rear axles on BMW's eats power. Ferrrari has the absolute know-how to get things to go smooth, and that gives to go forward. That I mention an Opel rear suspension and axle is that this has only few bearings, each bearing takes power. I have had 2002, 2000CS and 2800CS.
Most beautiful car with best engine sound, here what the BMW engineers did'nt know: Their rear wheel suspension is bad and eats the horsepower. Take that from an old Opel, then they win.

@Kudurt so you know more than the BMW engineers of the time... so how do you explain the fact this model won several races during it's design life?
