actually odesk now has many cheap employers , we cant continue like this and allow very low rates like $3/h !!!

I hope odesk do something in between with quality and low cost not cheap or almost free work.

If America doesn't want to outsource their "pretty" jobs to contractors from other countries - no problems! Let them "cook their American popconrn" for 100$/h :)

Now oDesk contains a huge number of projects from Europe, Asia, Australia, Canada and other places worldwide, because of:

1. Daily growing market pull on IT projects;

2. Millions of freelancers, that are ready to work worldwide;

3. oDesk itself - the great, well managed freelance marketplace.

I think oDesk is growing rather fast. If to check Trends and oConomy growth statistics - before 2012 it has chance to become primal wrold freelance marketplace.

i love odesk, i go to school full time, and i cant afford to go to a work place, i just go home and clock some hours, i make over 1000 a month it may not be alot but it maintains me and i can be independent of my parents

I love odesk, I'm not rich but I can say that it pays my bills, people like to complain about everything but want to do nothing to change there situation. I feel like odesk offers a different avenue for I.C's. I get offers all the time and I live in the U.S. I'm a buyer and provider and I've hired U.S. workers, usually those are the people I want but, if U.S. workers don't want to contract then who do you think will do the job.

Gary Swart is fucking up the transfer of wealth in the United States. oDesk has gigs that are consistently undervalued for typically high paying jobs in the US. Who do you think gets those bids? India, Pakistan, Russia, Ukraine, and other Third World Countries; not the United States. Sending money overseas is money that will never be reinvested into the US economy and therefore an economic drain. Complete bullshit and Gary Swart is lining is pockets as it happens.

actually thats not true at all as people who are doing this work get paid less than over here which gives the cutomer over here more money to invest in marketing & advertising increasing there traffic views = more sales = more paying tax.

I agree that it provides more money in tax revenue for the Government with quality production. But the problem I see is that tech jobs are vital to the Nations individuals wealth. A tech guy that gets underbid by outsourcing will not have the money to spend on those products. Which then creates a gap in the economy between the wealthy companies and the average citizen. And the great depression was sparked by a similar gap. This won't cause another depression, but it is not good for the economy..

yes, i suppose, but in richer nations they have always outsourced, taking advantage of poorer nations & its just the way of life, i'm afraid this happens a lot & tech guys over here will still get jobs setting up all the equipment for the companies & maintaining the websites. :)

Seriously this is BAD for skilled U.S workers. Take a look on the oDesk website. You'll see most bids are won by people overseas in places like India. Where a person with a particular skill could make $20 per hour here in the U.S., they now have to compete with someone in India that will do the same job for $6 an hour. Websites like oDesk are contributing to this problem unfortunately
