Everybody should respect this guy. He is example for for the spirit of mankind! Thank you Burt, that you gave us fate that every dream is possible if you really believe and want it happen!
@random971 Re: [quote] burt monro and john britten - what a pair of legends!! both were just brilliant men! [unquote] Yes- a couple of kiwi's they were, but around this neck of the woods, nothing really special- as NZ has more than it's fair share of pioneering innovative inventors (it's a fact of life down under) U have to be inventive to succeed here as we're TOO far away from costly repair parts- & Modification and Re-inventing the wheel is all in a days work for MOST joe average KIWI blokes
Im a New Zealander, My father owned an Indian and knew the the Munro family, Berts brother Peter was a Dr in our home town of Feilding. Peter Munros son was also a Dr Paul Munro.
I remember running Burts mags on an Octopus test bench at Joe Lucas in the early 60's. He wanted to see how long the various bits of nylon and other cam material he picked up in the States would last for a run. It altered the spark as the gap changed. I recall him moaning about having to wear leathers as the shell was so tight to get into. He was a real old #8 wire Kiwi bloke. MikeMc
lots more kids need to meet and spend time with guys like burt, this is when real ethics and knowledge is passed on to next generation, and rightly so!!!!
@barnfresh60 ? Most rural NZ farmers are of the same mould; especially when, by being so far away from overseas manufacturers, that's ensursed that parts for machinery etc are virtually impossible to source in a hurry; thus the kiwi terminology of being a #8 inventor- as MOST of NZ's rural fencing is of #8 gauge low & high tensil galvanised wire, and the ONLY readily accessible maliable metal available to NZ farmers OUT in the backblocks on their farms as quick fixes are just DONE to FINISH work
Awesome man, true gent and hero, film of Burts life has just been shown on British TV so expect you'll get a few more hits on the site, deservedly so!
Awesome person, true gent and hero, thanks for posting, suspect you'll get a few more hits on this as film starring antony Hopkins portraying Burts life has just been shown on British TV.
What a legend! Burt Munro proven that it doesn't matter how old u are. You can always follow ur dream no matter how old you are. Burt got his dream come true.
Un personaje q se hizo muy popular después de la película protagonizada x Sir Anthony Hopkins. La historia verídica de un gran hombre, héroe neocelandés. Si no vieron la película , por favor veanla, no se van a arrepentir
the LOVE of MONEY is THE REAL obstacle to achieving GREATNESS.... REAL SUCCESS ..is aiming for a personal GOAL ...and LIVING THE DREAM ...as you can see...BURT & MANY like him...did it for the LOVE & THE SPORT....VIVE LA PASSION ! !
What a man, "hands on" made all his own stuff and the machines to do it some were a bit Heath Robinson I bet But they did the job just look at what he did beat the Yanks that had unlimited dollars and the latest gear My Kind of Guy fantastic achievement I agree with gbasile77 Hollywood did play his story down a tad
I met a gentleman who's parents sponsored one of Burt's stays over here in the early 70's when he went to Bonneville. The guy has pictures of him in his shop with Burt @ Bonneville. He stayed at his folks place near San Diego...Chula Vista if I'm not mistaken. The gentleman himself is another motorcycle legend of sorts. His name is Sonny Angel. I wish I would have been born in another era to have had a chance just to hang out with Burt.
Very Kiwi, if you want something and can't afford it make it, if that dosn't work fix it, if that dosn't work ride it anyway your balls will see you through. If burt was an American he would of got a heap of sponcership and had all the safty gear in the world...How do you think we flew before the Wright brothers, or invented the jet engine for boats or split the atom. Give a Kiwi a car battery and a tin can, we would turn that into a time machine. Also check out "John Brittain.
I just watched the movie on NetFlix: "THE WORLD'S FASTEST INDIAN". In Loving Memory of Burt Munro: You had a SUPER, DUPER INDIAN SCOUT!!!! FANTASTIC RACER!!!!! At 67 yrs. of age...you let NO OBSTACLES GET IN YOUR WAY!!!!! R.I.P., GOOD BUDDY!!!!! I KNOW YOU'RE RIDIN YOUR INDIAN SCOUT UP IN THE WILD BLUE YONDER!!!!!! "I Love Ya, Burt!!!!!!!!!!" :)

I love the movie , but the director pissed me off. Burt never kissed no damn nigger transvestite. Hollywood pushes all that fag shit on us. Don't fuck with our hero you Hollywood assfucks!!!
Yeah the minute i saw the drag queen part i said fucken fairywoods done it again!!!! Fuckin assholes would have John Wayne in a dress if they could!!!!
I think they were tryin' to show what a sheltered life he lead. And that he was a genuinely nice person no matter what race or sexual orientation you were, somehow I get the feeling that you two are not.
very good point only that there was no dramatisation it was a factual acount of his story. He really did meet a drag queen. Argo ....everything you saw in the film was perhaps not word for word but it happened. It was real. I'm done. I could call you an idiot but its late and I want a sandwich.
I guess ive become synical.... of course hollywoods track record would have nothing to do with that.... how was that samich? Have some "MILK" with that !
You say it in a crass way, but it's true. I work in Hollywood, and there is the gay agenda in everthing, from writing to editing, to casting, even to product placement.
