What is an OS?

Well an OS is an operating system like Windows, or Mac...

Linux however is free, and there are 1,000 of Linux distributions ...

Linux Ubuntu, Linux Mint , Fedora, openSUSE, Debian, Puppy, Gentoo ...

So with Linux on a PS3 you could do lots of stuff just Like you could on your computer ... but there isn't a point seeing how you could just as easy install Linux on your PC...

@ShazzyKhany you mean "what" does linux do? - Anyway, Linux is better described as an Open Source version of the Unix operating system.

Why would you want it on your PS3?

Because it adds a whole boatload of functionality that it didn't have before and pretty much turns it into a personal computer much like a PC or a Mac and, more importantly to some, gives you access to a LOT of open source and free software and the ability to write your own.

@metallicafan928 First of all, this isn't hacking, because it's officially supported by Linux and Sony. Secondly, Linux is just an operating system, like windows or mac os.

they both have pros and cons, i prefer Ubuntu because it has some great features such as start up sound, bluetooth file exchange, and its easier to use emulators and six axis with. but yellow dog i have currently installed on my ps3, because more people are interested in it and ask questions, yellow dog has some good software and easy to install.

Yeah but what if you don't have a CD burner? Some people don't. But i mainly sell yellow dog anyway becuz lots of people don't have a DVD burner.

i was waiting for someone to say that. makes me feel people are actually watching it! well i am currently making it now. for now you can watch part 2 of my yellow dog linux video. follow that one untill you get up to the starting of the installation. oh, and enter the ubuntu disk instead of the yellow dog one! the rest is easy to figure out.
