@Socomnick Because Israel is a Jewish state, and if the cops beat up religious Jews, then a lot of the country gets mad.

But the Haredi have been living off state funds ever since Israel was created. They are not drafted into the Israeli Army, they get their own schools free of supervision, and live in isolated communities, all funded by the Israeli taxpayer.

I was in Jerusalem that day. I remember in the morning taking the 28 Bar ILan Street was closed, the bus re-routed through other areas where there was burnt garbage on the streets. It was very annoying, I was late for work that day. In the next few days after the riots you could see the traffic lights on Bar ILan street were all broken and had wires sticking out them. Lets hope that Israel can find a way to knock some sense into these crazy people, and make them do something constructive.
