nice vid! i tend to do it that 'swiss' way whan im covering rosana bc it doesnt sound full enough without it but i havent recorded it to listen that way and ive only been doing it on my elect. kit. it just occured to me watching you that the 2nd ghost note must be landing with the 'a' of the hat! am i right?

there are no swing shuffles..Listen to Pride and Joy by Stevie Ray Vaughn...People think there are so cool that they can play this stupid fucking beat..but I bet you can't play a real shuffle to save your life
hey im in my jr high jazz band and was wondering if you could clarify, slowdown, or give the stickings of the cool swing beat. like i know to do the swing beat but where do i add the ghost notes. haha you know what i mean?
He's playing the same shuffle from the very start of the video as far as I can tell. Except instead of single ghost notes and one accent/backbeat on the snare he doubles all the ghost notes.
Yea, I realize this and clarified on the title and description. Yea, I sucked back then. I did this vid a year and a half ago, it's amazing to see your progression in such a short time. You should put some videos up of yourself as well!
I agree with ya, I record on a cheap little kodak digital camera. It does the job, and as far as notation. That's a good idea, I don't know how I would put that on the vid....
@iSquishMoths Learning by ear is easier in most cases, but knowing how to read notation will result in a much better rounded percussionist. It also helps people understand complex grooves and licks. Trust me when I say that seeing something complex written down in front of you makes it MUCH easier to memorize and play than simply listening to it over and over again X amount of times.
Kind of like the Purdie shuffle. Bonham grooves this shuffle in "Fool in the Rain." Toto drummer Jeff Porcaro shows a good example of this in the song "Rosanna"
dig it

"You should clarify on your video title and description that these are "half-time" shuffles, or "purdie" shuffles, not to be confused with shuffles."

@robthedrummer Whats the difference between a half time shuffle and a shuffle

Dat was by far the best explaination of the shuffle I've ever seen!!!

Hey Rob!
I think your Videos are very cool - you are definetly a talented drummer.
But there are two things that are improve-able.
1. You should get some mics on your set for a better audio quality.
and 2. You should load up the notaion or tabs of the beats you are playing, that would help people to learn the stuff :)
Go on, your snare is awesome :)

You should clarify on your video title and description that these are "half-time" shuffles, or "purdie" shuffles, not to be confused with shuffles.
PaulNiehausIV 3 years ago
for the rosanna with two ghosts are you acutually flaming between the hat and snare like in a swiss army, or is it a little more spaced out?
