@rayallensax Who gives a crap? It is on opposite sides of the country, most people will never hear both in person, and especially in the Big Sky Conference. GO GRIZ!
@rayallensax That's because it is. Dick Howell heard "White and Gold," liked it, and wrote "Up With Montana" in 1914. “American college fight songs, although often similar and generally having the same underlying purpose of promoting their institutions through music, are products of a large, complex, and often confusing body of cultural material.”
@krnkid08 No, California came up with it first. Cal originally played "Stanford Jonah" in 1913 and it was subsequently adopted by Montana (1914), Georgia Tech (1929, after a Cal-Ga. Tech Rose Bowl), and the Naval Academy.
@kenndl i believe they are talking about the football....you know the pigskin...they used to use pig bladders to cover the ball back in the day. as the lyrics say,"the squeal of the pig will float in the air...." i don't think opponents are floating in the air unless their ghosts...but that would present a whole different issue...
I think the lyrics are fine until the end when the University of Montana seems to regard its opposition as pigs. I thinks there is something immature and disturbing about this kind of outlook.
