On the way back, they have to pause for as long as 2 hours to allow the dissolved gases in the blood vessels to release slowly. Otherwise, a gas bubble will form in the vein, causing acute pain or even deaths
It takes a modern scuba diver only a minute or two to descend the 130 feet to the wreck EMPRESS OF IRELAND. But only experienced divers can go down. Because of the depth and intense cold, drivers can spend no more than an hour inside the wreck before returning to the surface... :) FUN FACT.
After years of family history research I learned that a female ancestor drowned on this ship with her two boys aged 4 & 2. The oldest born in Lancashire in 1910 & the youngest in Canada in 1912.
They were coming home to visit the family, the newspaper report it states that she travelled on the Empress on the recommendation of her mother who had travelled on the Empress when she visited her daughter the previous year, sent a chill down my spine!
@mredd1961 I'll have to look it up, might i suggest my latest video? its a new and better tribute tot he ship, its on my main page. Its always a pleasure to hear from LIVING LINKS to these great tragedies.
Greatly appreciated tribute, my Great Grandfather, Thomas Dennis, was a surviving crew member and his story passed down from my elderly Uncle is that he was at the very point of drowning and had actually reached a moment of 'absolute calmness', fully acceoting of his fate, when he was pulled to safety by a fellow crew member.
God bless that person whoever it was, as without my Great Grandfather, neither myself or any of my family would be here of course....
@AlandisDendii A Great Privileged it is to interact with 'Living Links' to these great ships. Praise the Lord he DID survive otherwise i would not have met you ^_^ I made another video to the Empress, its the most recent video on my channel, have a look if you want. ^_^ God Bless,
Thank you! This should NOT be forgotten. My great-grandfather died aboard this ship, or in the frigid, nighttime waters. His daughter survived. It's a shame so few know about it. There are people in Canada working to preserve the Empress artifacts & many have gotten into the museum. A movie would be ideal.
@Hertzogs6 Hey Man i own two artifacts from the Empress and i handled a few others, she's a fine ship, but a horrible tragedy. If i might suggest it, try taking a look at my most recent video. Its a better video about the Empress and even has some pictures of the artifacts. Its always a pleasure to talk with people like yourself who have connections to these liners. ^_^ God Bless. Matthew
@075659178117 james cameron did a great job at footage, his historical accuracies suck. frederick fleet in the movie looks arrogant, in fact he felt bad he did not see the iceberg in time even when it was not his fault and hanged himself in 1965, he had been suicidal all his life after but it was his wife dying was his final straw. bruce ismay only left when nobody else wanted to go in a lifeboat and captain smith did not wander off and bolt himself in his cabin and let water submerge him.
Very well done! Ashame people only know of Titanic (also a very horrible tragedy) but this is a TRUE tragedy because...not only did it sink...it was quickly forgotten
I don't much about the Cannadian Pacific Line, I only know a few ships of that line, so as far as I know Empress Of Ireland was the only Liner to be sunk
@Perrygodmother very interesting fact is to date, the salvation army band funeral is the largest funeral in toronto's history where anywhere between 100-200,000 people are said to have attended. more than a third of the toronto region's population at the time.
Yes the other ship was a collier called Storstad, a fully laden ship full of coal and with a reinforced bow, the worst type of ship to hit a liner!
Another irony is in the bad fog both ships changed course several times to avoid each other!! If both ships had done NOTHING when they first sighted each other, they would have missed each other.
Matthew, The proper name of the song is "A Flower on the Sea". You can get it on itunes. It's listed under the name of Michael Whalen who wrote the song. The singer is Mary McLaughlin however. :)
i agree but i'm worried it'll start political talk like one of my other videos did, we'll see how things go, i do have a good ammount of 9/11 material so we'll see.
Nicely done, I love how the burst of water is in perfect sync with the music picking up. It's a really sad thing to know how many people died on that ship though. Makes me shudder actually.
On the way back, they have to pause for as long as 2 hours to allow the dissolved gases in the blood vessels to release slowly. Otherwise, a gas bubble will form in the vein, causing acute pain or even deaths

@075659178117 I'm shocked....... they DID one...... i guess its an independent film, dunno when its due out though......
Obviously the trailer is a mish mash of different films, all of which i can identify however some scenes are indeed NEW.
Type in "Empress Of Ireland Movie" into google IMAGES, its Image 12. kinda has a girl on it over the empress sailing at sea.

There is a memorial at Mount Pleasant Cemetary in Toronto for history buffs.
