I played an early Fulltone Octafuzz at a local music shop. The thing didn't even have a Octafuzz/Fuzz switch. First version perhaps? Plugged a Tele in one end and a dirty Orange Thunder 30 in the other and damn. Fat and raunchy down low, sinister double stops and power chords, and the octave was WAY more pronounced than in this video. Do yourself a favor and try this pedal with your own rig before forming an opinion. Still, a great demo and sexy playing as always!
"1 minute left;" words of wisdom, something really important to keep in mind while using fuzz pedals live with a band....I've fallen under that trap, thinking I got an awesome tone, then when the music starts and solo time arrives, I can't hear shit. Gearmandude is the best out there, very honest and great at guitar
@IceCreamRueckert The octafuzz is an octave up and the mxr blue box is two octaves down. Apples and oranges, but both cool! (i have them both) Octafuzz = Jimi Hendrix type sound think: "purple haze" solo. Blue box= Jimmy Page - i think he actually used this particular pedal on "fool in the rain" solo.
PS Gearmanndude is more of a man than Chuck Norris beacuse he uses two N's in his name !!!!!!!!!
maybe someone can help. I just purchased this pedal planning to put it on my powered pedal board but it came with a warning not to use the boss / ibanes adaptor and use a center pin positive configuration linking lead. Has anyone had this problem?
Meh, this is okay, but like he said I wouldn't really be able to use this. I prefer something like the sTone Bender. Sounds better to my ears. But that's just me.
I agree dude-- I've been watching this guy's videos for quite a while, and I think his tone here is the best I've heard so far, with and without the fuzz!
O>K> demo. Not really how to set the pedal to get classic octave tone . You should do a demo with the octafuzz with the boost all the way down then go to a sunface pedal to boost it. I have no problem cutting thur the mix with fuzz with my rig. Keep em coming
as far as i know, dealers out side the USA were crying to mike fuller as folk we're buying direct from the USA as they're alot cheaper, at one point 50% cheaper!!! so he asked all US dealers to stop shipping outa the states....mark at hotrox valves here in the UK sell's Fulltone gear, thankfully alot cheaper than 2-3 years ago....
Nice playng and demo, but the cool thing in this video is the talking in the end. "The soundman, no ofense, doesn't know what he is doing..." This is true everywhere in the globe. Maybe even out of it... I just subscribed your youtube channel.
One of the few Fullotone pedals I love, this thing creates these great sitar sounds when playing at the right place in the neck and set up correctly. Set it to Octafuzz, set the Vol to 10:30, Boost to 10:30, play the bridge pickup on a Strat/Tele...turn the volume on your guitar about half way down, pluck right near the bridge. It sounds best higher on the neck but pretty much works anywhere. Have fun!
Yeah, that's right unless you get a Prescription or Fulltone Extreme Octave (which is the newer improved version) these 2 work almost on any part of the neck whereas that model you have and most of the original Octavias will only provide the upper octave when you play past the 10th or 12th fret on the neck pickup. Try that and you should start to hear it kick in.
Great playing, great video. The secret to an Octavia is that it only works properly on the neck pickup with the tone all the way off, and it doesn't kick in until around the 9-10 fret. My favorite setting is with the Fuzz on 3 and the boost on 9. This will cut through any mix; however it must be used judiciously.
you're not even using it right. to get that real ratty upper octave out of that pedal you have to play above the tenth fret on the neck on the neck pickup.
I just got this and I love it, you just need to get to know it and how to properly manipulate it

Also, fuzz pedals tend to sound better on single coil equipped guitars.
