Nice. Not only is the art universe dominated by W.A.S.Py curators and patrons, but academia (wasp nests) is also a prevailing flavor in contemporary art. There's so much money wrapped up in universities and M.F.A programs to churn "fully formed artists". Where all the non affiliated outsiders is?
This smacks of Haterade I know, but It's difficult not to be a little cynical about art/artists, and the institutions that are shaping contemporary art.
I liked the video a lot but felt the idea that the new generation is the most at home with new technology didn't really work for me, Marx wrote that the bourgeoisie were obsessed with technology. It makes me think that currently at least there is a limited ability for a generation to take up new technology, probably linked individually to their place in the workforce and whether the technology improves their earning power or threatens it.
Really like your videos, would love to know if you have
yea but you all reference things to movies and tv shows, , and all worked up on texting all day ignoring the world around you, i was born in 79 and i guess i came too early to be part of this gen, im glad you all are blank in the head, come on, art? i love the shit out of some technology, yeah nugguh
I actually learned! Love your vids man. My favorite has to be "The Sublime". You should do more exploratory videos where you get out and dissect the artistic properties of the world and shit.
U KNO BOUT MY MAN GUY DEBORD?! DATS CRAZY SON! DEBORD IS DAT DUUUDE! In all seriousness, your pretty inspiring. Watching your videos shows me that there Aesthetics can be interesting and funny. Where did you go to college and get edumacated?
First time public speaking? GTFOH. Even without the benefit of editing your message comes through with the same Hennessy flava, finding the art in the vernacular. Ima call the local university and museums right now to get you down South. Ah, who am I kidding, I'm going to email a professor, but you know.
the power to shape institutions? Hella yes we do! so let's use our power for the power of awesome -- we're not just consumers, we give a shit about making shit better!! let's do it!!!
You left out flash mobs and guerrilla artists. I'd love to see a hundred painters gather together and start painting in a highly trafficked public space. Or some mass act of graffiti. Millennials might dig that.
Excellent Thoughtz- as a borderling boomer/GenX-er, You gave me a better insight into Millennials, but I do have to ask if you feel that embracing the future should mean denying or rejecting the value of the past? The 50's had Beat Poetry, and that was brilliant, but did Beat negate the value of Classicist or Romantic era poets? I suspect that if Millennials embraced the past as well, they might be less comfortable accepting Authority, and being consumers.
@Kaotiqua Nah, I don't thing that embracing the future should entail disregarding the past, because more times than not, we're not the first ones facing whatever situation/decisions/dilemma we're encountering. But we have to becareful that we're not choked by nostalgia.
I think I am in love with this man, he sounds like Christopher Walken and has a rather dashing hat.

@guadalupes3rdmix - yeah, but we're better off doing that without institutions backing it up and stripping it of it's radical content ;-)
