  • A wonderful performance - so lyrical - slightly slower than it is usually played these days. The return of the theme in double notes at score-mark 118 is magical playing as is the last page of this movement. (Actually, Serly only completed the orchestration of the last 18 bars. The viola concerto needed far more input from Serly to complete it.) The concerto was written for Bartok's wife Ditta, I wonder why she never played it. Sandor gave the first performance.
